The Scarlet Pimpernel was one of my heroes growing up. I remember the Blackadder sketch were they were trying to identify his identity. He was heroic and dashing.

Well, a theatre in Taylors, South Carolina performed a musical version of it this past April (2022) which is how I found this movie. They did a spectacular job on that play and others. I would recommend looking into their productions, since they live stream the performances. It is The Logos Theatre in Taylors, SC (in case anyone is interested🙂).

I preferred the original of 1934, it was very well done, I didn't care for this one too much, it is good, but over acted I thought. I really enjoyed reading the book, I didn't know who the Pimpernel was till at one point where the girl figured it out too, don't want to spoil the plot or the book.

Came here to understand the Scarlet Pimpernel reference from Beelzeboss. "I'll make him squeal like my scarlet pimpernel" - still don't get the reference haha

The best explanation I heard of was that in England women that were cheating were forced to wear a letter A meaning adulteress, and to be easily recognizable, it was bright red - scarlet, and the dye came from the scarlet pimpernel flower. Later it became a reference for a prostitute. There are also interpretations that in certain part of the bible it represents sin. [Edit] There's a great instrumental with the same title by Black Sabbath, from The Eternal Idol album.
