So for anyone who's wondering, the film is about these 2 best friends who are complete opposite from one another named Sophie(blond one) and Agatha(brunette obvs) from a village called Gavaldon. For the last 200 years in their village, children have been disappearing every 4 years and every 4 years, 2 children are magically kidnapped on the 11th day of the 11th month at midnight. One seemingly Good and one seemingly Evil. Every four years, villagers try to stop the kidnappings to no avail and fail miserably. This time it's Sophie and Agatha that are being kidnapped. And yes, the bird(called a stymph) is the one that will fly them to the School for Good and Evil. Only the children who have been kidnapped have seen the schools. In the School for Good and Evil, students learn to become fairy tale heroes and villains(or as sidekicks if they graduate with low grades). Imagine all the famous fairy tale characters that we ever know. Cinderella, Rapunzel, Captain Hook, Ursula and ALL, I mean ALL fairy tale characters that we've ever read. They were all once students in The School for Good and Evil before they all graduated and made their way into their own fairy tales. That's the premise of the story. All students at The School for Good and Evil all come from a fairy tale family or line, either a famous or obscure one except for the children from Gavaldon who are the only students that are non magical. The twist here is that seemingly good princess archetype Sophie with her pretty face and long blonde hair gets sent to the School for Evil while homely, antisocial and grumpy Agatha gets sent to the School for Good. Sophie is determined to show everyone that she is Good and that she deserves to go to the School for Good and become a fairy tale princess while Agatha wants nothing to do with all these magic and school stuff and just wants to escape and go back home to Gavaldon with her best friend. The books are so fun too so I def recommend the book series. Their adventures in their respective schools are also gonna be hilarious, dramatic, EFFING MAGICAL, emotional and gory, YES GORY. And the competition between the Good and Evil students is gonna be comical and exciting AF. (Good students are called Evers short for Everafter while Evil students are called Nevers short for Nevermore.) HAHAHA. Support this film besties once it comes out cause book 2 IS SO MUCH MORE EXHILARATING and we need the whole series to be turned into a film. THIS COULD LITERALLY BE OUR NEXT HARRY POTTER! Sooooooo my dear student... are you Good? Or are you Evil? EDIT: I don't expect y'all to like this plot based on some replies to my comment saying it's been done before when it's literally not. I'm just happy us people who have read the book and loved it all these years will truly appreciate how amazing the story of this book is. AFTER WATCHING THE FILM: sigh. the books are REALLY REALLY FUN but this film was such a let down. the book was better.

So excited for this! So glad to see a book series I went through my teenage years with finally get attention. @shonshont2 жыл бұрын
I'm honestly so upset about that because a major part of the story is the contrast between Sophie and Agatha's inner/outer beauty. Agatha being described as bug eyed, pale, sickly, greasy was so prevalent throughout the books, and it made her realization of her own beauty so meaningful. I honestly don't know how they are going to pull that part of the story off because the actor already looks lively and beautiful. I hope they do it in a way that doesn't make young kids believe that the Agatha's actor is 'ugly' compared to Sophie's actor and the other evers(blonde hair etc)

Aggie looked like the mother, who bewitched the father of the girls but Aggie had goodness in her like her father. Agatha’s lesson about being beautiful? Tedros’ confusion and getting good and evil mixed up? Literally anything about the coven? Sophie with the golden goose and beast? I understand changes have to be made with adaptations, but I disagree with the choices made here. Hope people enjoyed the pretty costumes and pop music that this film prioritised. Rereading the books while waiting for the movie to come out, I just wanna say what I wish this trailer did better: Personally, the book was all about breaking fairytale stereotypes and not judging a book by its cover. Throughout the book, we are following Sophie wanting to be good and rejecting her villainy, while we follow Agatha beat her own insecurities about looking like a villain herself. If anything, the coven of witches were more welcoming to Agatha when they saw her. The book made a really good case about the two not belonging where they were, really emphasizing that they'd be better off actually switching. Only in the end do we get to realize they really belong in the schools they got dropped in. This trailer feels like a giant spoiler all of a sudden, just showing that Sophie does really belong in Evil, and Agatha gorgeously fitting in her princess dresses and locking eyes with Tedros-who was supposed to hate her because he was judging her by her looks.. The trailer kind of removes the mystery that the first book made me feel, and suddenly the film looks like a very typical fairytale story that's comparable to Harry Potter. It makes the characters seem very one-dimensional all of a sudden. We don't see Sophie suffering in her evil classes, dedicated to proving herself good; we don't see Agatha's insecurities which is a huge part of her arc. And frankly, some of the lines make no sense, so I guess they changed things up because suddenly "evil is controlling Sophie"? And "if Sophie turns evil, we're all doomed"? Then uh, why then forcefully enroll her into the villain school if you don't want her being evil? But if those lines are just for promotion material, then the change is understandable. Either way, I think the trailer and the visuals are gorgeous, I'm scared the film won't deliver the moral of the book effectively or even change the moral, I'm scared our Aggie might not deliver the character Agatha that I read, I hope she acts witty, clever, cunning, but still passionate enough, and I wish that as villainous as our Sophie is, she will still deliver that character who just wants to be a good princess Edit: so they changed a lot of things from the books, unfortunately that bothered me more than it should because it also erased so many themes and morals in the original source... I feel disappointed watching the film.

One of my favourite things about films like this is that they show how Good and Evil are subjective, that their boundaries cannot be clearly defined, and that factors such as time and circumstance always play major roles in these concepts. Yes. There are very few - if any at all, actually - who are wholly good or wholly evil, for the world itself is as grey as can be instead of being strictly black or strictly white. Oh, and of course, there is how it shows that one has to take their destiny into their own hands and give it all they got for the future they seek, instead of just waiting for the end to come, or crying for someone else to help or solve all their problems for them. 🙂

@@majorlazor5058 Did any of the bad guys in HP get their story told or have character exploration for a whole six books? No. Did we get anything about Voldemort about him just living a regular life, like we got with all the good guys in HP from Ron to Harry to Dumbledore, etc. No. Did we get any character exploration besides a few chapters in the entire seven books about the Malfoys, Bellatrix, or any of the other villains. No. That is one major difference about the plot between SGE and HP. The evil side of HP, the truly evil side, does not get their story told in HP, due to that, there is no character exploration or thoughts of subjectivity regarding what Evil truly is in the HP books, because we simply don’t get the Evil side of the story told in HP. The entire story is almost entirely from the Good sides perspective. Imagine how different the story would be if we had one chapter from Harry’s POV and the next from Draco’s and then back to Harry then back to Draco for the entire series. THAT is showing emotional depth and thought provoking consideration for the subjectivity of the Evil side, creating a fair fight between Good and Evil in the story and who you root for as a reader. So no, you don’t necessarily get this from HP, unlike SGE, which evenly splits its time between the hero and villain and gives each a proper story of each good and bad character just living life.

I've rarely been so disappointed with an adaptation. Of course many things have to be changed to fit into a movie when the book is so full of events and details, but then why try to squeeze 3 books into just one movie and then change almost everything in the story and characters? There are so many great parts of the book missing, and I feel like it's not even the same story in the end. This movie seems based on good aesthetic and special effects, and the difference between good and evil is just black or colorful clothes. In the books it's so much more than that. And Agatha? She is so beatiful, so full of confidence, so... not someone you could ever call an ugly witch that it doesn't even makes sense to call her that in the movie. We don't see her big transformation. Nor the wonderful "I've been beautiful all along." For Sophie neither, since she just gets evil in the end, and for a short while, but that's all. She is not even mean until the end. And the teachers? What did they do to Dovey and Lesso and their beautiful friendship and bright personalities? And the mysterious school master? And Auguste Sader? And Tedros hating on Agatha but always chosing her over Sophie in the survival class? And... Anyway. There is way too much to say about how many things they changed, and not in a good or interesting way. At least, in my opinion. I suppose I would have liked the movie if I hadn't read the books first, nor loved them so much that an adaptation like this would be so disappointing. Well... too bad. Maybe the next one will be better (or at least more accurate, though I don't see how).

Watched it, although I haven't read these books, it does comes a bit stereotypical(like emo makeup and looking conventionally unattractive characters in the evil side of the school.) For me, Evil can be defined as any person wether they act bad,Has different liking, unique in terms of looks etc. There's quite a popular of a description on what u can call of a devil, "It isn't some red skinned, evil eyes with horns and a tail, It's just a charming person with beautiful eyes, Someone you wouldn't even expect to be." (Did not copied it word for word but I hope u get the meaning) anyways this is not related but i do like how Agatha says about the fact you that a person couldn't entirely be purely good or purely evil it is complicated because we make mistakes(or not depending on the person who views what they do) and plan to act rudely, mean etc recklessly or being nice, kind etc.

So somehow this happened that I have never even heard or saw this series of books. Therefore I have not had a chance to dive into this book set (I’m shocked myself). Yes. I have NOT READ the books before watching this on Netflix. After I watched it I wanted to see what others thought about it. Let’s just say there was a lot of comparisons thrown around about the characters from the books not living up to the movie version (just scroll down the comments and u notice gradual character comparisons between books vs. movie). I think maybe it was a good thing I have not stumbled on the books when I was younger (and let’s just highlight the fact that I haven’t even knows or heard about this set, and I read a lot… like I can literally go through 4 books a day easily on a slow/not busy day). Honestly I thought the movie was very good. Good twists in the plot, loved the cast, thought it was well developed. Let’s talk about costumes and the movie set: it was amazing, u can tell they put in so much work into this. I actually put my phone down and watched the whole thing so as not to miss anything. The friendship was heart warming, the play between hero vs. villain was fun to watch as it developed, even the romance wasn’t nauseating (what I mean that it wasn’t the ending I originally expected/ predicted). There’s a lot of factors in this movie I loved. Long story short, if u a fiction reader like me and prefer to wait on the movie and read the books before that? Maybe wait and see the movie first, then u can read the books. For me this works because I wasn’t over judgmental and didn’t compare the characters to the book, which what made the movie more enjoyable. Otherwise, I would most likely compare it to the book and it would affect my whole review. Definitely check the movie out on Netflix now, great find ❤

I literally am reading the second book in the series! It's so thrilling you don't even realize you're reading a book! Based on this trailer, my only regard is they made agatha a woman of color which we love to see in cinema. So excited to see how that plays into her role

If this is what Sophia Anne Caruso left Beetlejuice on Broadway for... Girl you did good. Can't wait to see more of her. She's a superstar

I just don't get it, it seems like netflix didn't understand what the whole story was about. It's supposed to be how appearances can be deceiving, and what looks like "ugly" and "evil" to some can actually be beautiful. The whole point that the appearance of the two protagonists matters soooo much during the most of the books was to prove that people's perception can be shallow and wrong. Agatha's supposed to LOOK ugly (or at least not conventionally beautiful) and Sophie is supposed to be "PERFECT" (because she needs to be perceived that way). But the actress they hired to be Agatha is STUNNING. When she talks about how the townspeople hated her because she was ugly, it's at least laughable. Like, come on, look at her! And about Sophie, the girl they cast as Beatrix (the boring princess) should be the real Sophie. Superficial and shallow, like a stuck up doll. I'm venting at this point, but come on Netflix, do better.

Best friends Sophie and Agatha find themselves on opposing sides of an epic battle when they're swept away into an enchanted school where aspiring heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance between Good and Evil.

the issue with hollywood is that half of these characters are meant to be visibly ugly and they’re all models. which is frustrating. also they look absolutely nothing like they do in the books, except maybe sophie. i don’t give a shit what race they are but they could’ve cast a black albino girl for anadil, and made agatha’s hair a greasy bob like it was supposed to be.

OMG! This is so good! My favorite moment is when Sophie looks at Agatha and says: "Chaos in not a pit, it is a ladder". Stunning and brave! Truly it is a movie of our generation!

i hate this meme smh ong💀
@kiriruro2 жыл бұрын
@@tencrim3810 honestly, i much more hate the situation that led to the birth of the meme then the meme itself, or the Morbius movie that created it. Because when people unironically applaud a lazy harry potter-clone, i want to unironically suggest, that when those people were told to read another book, the book in question was not supposed to be the same one they read, but dumber

Don't know the books, never heard of them. But this trailer looks fantastic. 😀 Obviously giving some serious Harry Potter vibes lol But distinct enough to stand on its own. Hopefully book fans will appreciate that any live action production of a book series is an adaptation and not nitpick this to death.

I feel like this would have benefited more as a show. I hope they don't rush the story line too much since it's in movie form like they always do with multi-book series.
