This ARG seems much more inspired by the Control (and by connection, Alan Wake) video game rather than directly by the SCP Foundation. Which is fine with me. The evolution of the concepts the SCP Foundation created have been wonderful and this is becoming my favorite sub-genre of sci-fi. I don't even think the "anomalous object" genre has an agreed up on name, yet.

I work in aerospace and specifically have been to Cape Canaveral a couple of times for work, as well as generally being a space history nerd. The dedication to details made by thr authors of this is absolutely unreal. Surveyor 3 in particular really did have Apollo 12 land essentially right next to it and retrieve pieces of it; in hindsight it's such an obvious target for unfiction writing that I'm upset and overjoyed by the sense of pure "why didn't I think of that". Merrritt island really is a real life nature preserve that Cape Canaveral is based in, and having launch sites dotted along the eastern coast in a space-obsessed America makes geographical sense. The cosmologically accurate description of getting pulled into spaghetti by a singularity... The whole thing is just bang-on from a detail standpoint, AND somehow manages deeply entertaining and fresh execution.

I love when ARG's have so much fun making things. Not physical objects, but like all of those audio recordings, the pamphlets, the book exerts, the video game, the idea of a Viewmaster with SOUND is just so neat. Also, as a Halifax person, I've heard Halifax pop up in media more often this year, but for this ARG to not only give it an excerpt but to also mention the impact of construction on Cole Harbour for a fictional space center is such a great level of detail. Hat's off to the creators!

I can't stop thinking about the tuna. It seems like the tuna is connected to the Spacetime Displacements somehow. Novak was eating a tuna sandwich. The revised 1999 launch schedule mentioned shipping a large order of tuna steaks to the mars colony. Halle specifically picks out the tuna-flavored chips and tuna jerky, which Claude notes is also what Reese would have chosen. Maybe being exposed to the phenomena gives you cravings for tuna for some reason?

That first “orientation video” really sold me on this whole project. There’s definitely some stock footage in there but it blends so seamlessly with the new footage it’s almost imperceptible. They clearly put the time in to find high quality sources, then put even more work into post-production making it all look like it was shot with the same camera. I am 100% unsurprised that there’s a film studies professor behind this, and I’m jealous of his students because this is the work of someone who definitely gets it.

Holy shit an ARG that FINALLY tickles my cosmology/astrology brain. The idea of watching the heat death of the universe and being reborn is actually kinda something similar to an actual theory called the "white hole theory" where if you survive a black hole, you watch the universe be reborn and you are ejected out of a "white hole" in a different universe entirely. I HIGHLY suggest those who love the actual physics of this look into general relativity and black hole stuff. I NEED MORE OF THIS. I NEED MORE SCI FI THAT ACTUALLY USES COMPLEX PHYSICS AND SPACE THEORY AAAAA

Something I noticed is that the Unix Epoch and the feared Y2K bug seem to bound the main events in the deviated timeline. An event at new years of 1969 seems to start the deviated timeline, and the lack of items post end of 1999 seems to hint that the deviated timeline has a clock that starts on 1/1/1970 and likely ends at or near 12/31/2000.

@TheNinToasterАй бұрын
this is exactly my thought.
@khalakrean6890Ай бұрын
1:16:04 i thought she was connected to these two right at this moment, the last sentence Claude write about her not being able to understand the nature of her existence, it felt out of place, what did it have to do with her watching a painting of Ross and Tranchard ? Unless her existence is connected to theirs, Claude has amnesia but as Ress said memory comes back with certain triggers and its possible it did there without Claude himself being aware and it makes me wonder if we should be more carefull about his added description of events. How much more does he already know then without being aware ? I dont know if Halley is their daughter tho, maybe her creation is in a more methaphorical sense, since Claude seems to see their circumstances as being alike and he only "more or less" created by them during the loop, Halley's situation could be similar to that

With as much as inter-dimensional cans of Tuna must cost, it's clear that no expense was sparred in virtually any element of the production, big hats off for physical props that look the part, too.

Simply outstanding -- the work is inspiring and the coverage high-quality and full of love of the art, as ever. Great work, Nick!

I'm only 15 minutes into the video, but this reminds me of so many things! It's like a combination of Southern Reach and Area X from Annihilation, SCP Foundation, and the Dharma Initiative from Lost! Lots of cool stuff going on here, I'm excited to hear more 😄 Edit after finishing: This shit RULES. This is the most well-constructed ARG I've ever seen, and not just in the amazing visuals. The pacing seems stellar. Like it's only been around since February but it seems like a pretty consistent and satisfying stream of answers have been doled out, while raising a few interesting questions. Incredible! I hope it continues its trajectory!!!

I was hooked from their introduction. That is one hell of a way to get the word out on your project! That must have been so much work alone! Let alone EVERYTHING that followed! Bravo!!!

For some reason this video makes want to get a tuna sandwich. Apropos of nothing, anyone else noticing how often tuna gets brought up? Strange, that.

This whole thing is such a wonderful love letter to 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequel. I appreciate that. Most sci-fi that references 2001 just throws in a famous quote, The Blue Danube. a parody of the ending sequence, or maybe a monolith. This ARG takes many of the narrative elements from 2001 and _expands_ upon them, writing out a story that verges on being canon-compatible. Themes and existential questions revisited with care.

The audio in the first cassette tape labeled "???" are actually reversed audio. Take the contents of the cassette tape and play them backwards. You know, playing audio in reverse is pretty easy to do with cassettes, even though software needs to process audio before it can play reversed.

I was worried by the timestamp that this might be another stream VOD. Glad to see it wasn't. Tastes are individual, and I'm sure others liked it, but that format just wasn't for me.

Huge 2001 a Space Odyssey inspiration here. Conniving AI, Soviet-American peace with tourist space travel, things on the moon that cause a technological leap… But despite these similarities I think it does an amazing job of expanding on that concept. I’m excited to see where it goes.

I wonder if typing in "tuna" or something of the like into the URL would get you anything. There was that one guy who joked at tuna being an object, but even jokes can be leads. Side Note: I hope to make an ARG one day, but damn... People are raising the bar real high. Though, I cannot deny that the rewards of seeing your work together is exhilarating, especially that of a well-crafted project.

The attempted bureaucratization of the strange and unusual will always be a fascinating premise to me. This hits all the hallmarks of such a premise that draw me in. Incredible work on behalf of the arg’s team and the Nightmind team explaining it. Thank you all.
