Everyone wants to feel good. Unfortunately, many of our efforts ultimately backfire, only increasing our distress. In this talk, Dr. Ron Siegel explores the surprising overlap between the teachings of ancient wisdom traditions, the insights gained from mindfulness practice, and the findings of modern psychological research in revealing what works, and doesn’t work, to support well-being. You’ll learn practical techniques to feel less stressed and live a fuller, richer life - even in times of great change and uncertainty.

What type of meditation, do you know Dzogchen meditation? What is the difference between meditation and contemplation? What does your internal dialogue look like during this ? Do You know how to induce the theta state and the rest and most importantly, how to remain conscious in all brain modes?

Sometimes being present is vastly more painful than escaping it.

I respectfully disagree, b3makinn. Depending on your definition of “being present” or being “mindful.” His definition of therapeutic mindfulness included loving acceptance. Regardless of the situation in the present moment, if mindful with loving acceptance, it’s possible I hope to remove ego from the situation and start to grasp the infinite and overwhelming magnitude of the universe and the present moment. That is much more interesting than escaping to drift and ignorance to what is happening for real. ❤️

@@rpmuldoo I respectfully would like to suggest 2 ideas. The first is that if free will doesn't exist, and I'm convinced that it doesn't, the 'choice' to escape or not to escape can not rest with the person having the experience. I say that even though I agree with you that in the long run it would be more beneficial to be able to be "in the present". The second point is that there are experiences that people have that make the alleviation of the pain, by not "being present", at least in that moment, all that they are equip to handle. What I would like to see is people becoming more aware of better options. It could be from videos like this, the integrations of these ideas into our educational process, community support, societal institutions that promote "human well being", and the access to these services and ideas for all of us. I'm not extra hopeful about seeing this any time soon, but I can hope.

the presence is not the point. you become present so you can notice your negative thoughts and replace them. just becoming mindful of negative thoughts is pointless if you don’t swap them out for better thoughts to have.
