In your scenario, best thing to do is to kill everything off, scalp and dethatch it all out, drop down some top soil, replant grass seed, then fertilize and watch it grow.

This is so interesting. We had a terrible lawn filled with dandelions and plantain so we tried a liquid that you attach to your hose. It was a disappointment. After doing some research, we invested in the Scott’s triple action. We made sure to follow the instructions to a T. It worked so fast! We had an absolutely beautiful, green & weed free lawn the entire summer and the following summer! We have since moved and have an even worse lawn situation. Even though it is spendy, we are going to use it again because we had such great success the first time.

I don't use the Triple Action, but I use the Scotts Weed and Feed, which has the same application method for the post emergent. The reason I use it rather that a liquid, is because I have had a hard time getting the applied amount of chemical correct. And I have over applied the liquid sometimes, and killed or stunted my grass. I agree, the grandular isn't as affective, but it is much easier to get the application correct, so that I don't hurt my grass.

For the most part Pre-emergents are the only herbicides that work with any effectiveness in a granular form. There are a few exceptions to this like Vexis for nutsedge.

This product work excellent But you have to follow instructions. You have to put this product down before. The soil temperature hit 65°. It's a pre-emergent product, not a post-emergent.

The big problem with your lawn is that it is spotty or patchy, you need to a pre and post, and then a re seed, and water mow and fertilize. The only thing instant is death, everything else needs work.

No issues here using granulated products. Apply in the morning while grass is wet. Let it sit for 24 hours, then water in. Proper coverage is important as well, pay attention to how dense the product is laying on the weeds.

What if you mixed some of the triple-action with water and sprayed it directly onto the problem areas?

I think that would work in theory, but that defeats the purpose of having granular formulation for this product. The big advantage of this product is that you can easily apply using a spreader. Spraying is more time consuming.

No.. I find them to be more of nice-to-haves.. also, if you mix and match your own, you can easily get the same stuff for less. Thanks for watching!!
