I don’t think I buy this theory. According to behavioral theories of biology and genetics (The Selfish Gene), females have to conserve their genetic material and ensure they have a single provider. Males best strategy was to pair with as many females as possible to enhance their opportunity to pass their genes on. Some of our social structures developed to account for this; i.e., rein in male urges to procreate indiscriminately so that females would have a better chance of raising offspring to their reproductive age. After that, it is all downhill. Your genes gain no better chance of being passed on after you raise your children. This book and some others blew my mind upon first reading.
