I’m thinking about drilling a hole in my seam ripper and doing the same thing with it.

Oh that's a great idea! I have three seam rippers and still can't ever find one when I need it!

@@smarmyclothes Oh, don’t worry, I have 6 (that I know of) now and while that’s finally enough that I can regularly locate one, it still takes some digging.

@@smarmyclothes I’m always dropping either my seam ripper or my scissors. Doing this with both or maybe using a shoestring and tie one end to scissors and one end to seam ripper and just wearing it like a scarf. I know I’ll probably be constantly grabbing the wrong one but at least I won’t be dropping them. Lol!

If I had a nickel for every time I lost my scissors, well I’d have a lot of nickels! I made myself a lanyard. Currently, said lanyard is holding my keys, but they are so easy to make, when I sit down to sew again, that will be the first thing I make. TFS

Off topic but, I'm trying to create "boot cuffs" for a woman but I don't want to use stretchy material on the _outside_, but something more like satin or non-stretchy material. What is the approach to create functional boot cuffs with only the inside stretchy to squeeze fit? I'm fresh off the boat with sewing and I'm having a hard time finding an approach method on how to do this for my first sewing project. I promised these to her 3 years ago, but now it's time to come through!

I'm imagining essentially something like a sock with a fancy non-stretch cuff portion that hangs over the boot? If that's right, you can stretch the "sock" portion to fit the non-stretch cuff. Example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqbbp4GkrJ16gNE

@@smarmyclothes That video will help, but essentially a ruffle+sock is stretchy+stretchy. I can see very clearly how measurements need to be taken, because even if I knew the exact circumference of her lower leg, I would still need to know how high the boot cuff would be warn. Anyhow, thank you for that video, I'll follow it 100% and see how things go.

@@TomTom-zx7lo Ruffles are not inherently stretchy. The eyelet lace in that video is non-stretch, which is why she has to stretch the sock to fit. Ruffles do have "ease" which means they are larger than the portion of the body they are being worn over to provide room for movement and getting the garment on. And it is true that any non-stretch fabric you use for the boot cuff will have to have some ease. But you may need only as little as a 1/2".
