I could’ve told you their modern folders are quite good. Of course they’re not Spyderco’s or Benchmade but for what they are they’re great. My favorite is the little tie-dye flipper. We’re talking $6-15 and more than adequate for most folks. Better than all of those gas station/flea market knives that sell for the same or more! My only grief is that most are right hand carry only and the clip can’t be moved!

Those look really nice, especially for the price tag. Based on their traditional offerings, I’m not too surprised that Rough Ryder did a great job focusing on getting the little things right. Yeah, it’s 440a. Big deal. People used steels with edge retention similar to 440a all the time not that long ago, and they got by just fine with them. If you can sharpen the knife, it’s not the end of the world that’s it’s not a powdered miracle steel. Sometimes simple things done well provide me with just as much enjoyment.

@@BigRedEDC do you have any experience with their fixed blades? Bought an 1869 fixed blade they make because it looks great. I can't wait to get it and hope it's as good as it looks. I do wish they would've used 1095 on the fixed blades though because it's a cheap steel too and works great on fixed blades. But the 440A should be fine for a 20 dollar fixed blade.
@BigRedEDC4 жыл бұрын
I havent tried any of their fixed blades yet!! Definitely on the list to do!!

@@BigRedEDC the 1980 is a great little knife. It was very stiff out of the box though and the liner lock was extremely hard to push back. But after messing around with the pivot some its very smooth for a sub 10 dollar knife.
@sneakypeaky60004 жыл бұрын
The handle shape doesn't work though. It's not comfortable with my hand size (larger). The hump in the middle is just at a bad placement. It's not like it's a heavy user anyway it's fine occasionally for cutting stuff. I'd wouldn't hesitate carrying it at a job that required cutting boxes ect ever now and then.

@Stahlwerk884 жыл бұрын
The blade is compound-ground, meaning the blade is ground at two different angles, one more stout, one narrower. The “crease” is the transition between the two separate angles.

I have yet to handle a Rough Rider flipper so this is not directed at them specifically, but I have a generic problem with budget flippers. Most of the used ones I buy (I buy 30# boxes at public auction) need adjustment, but the cheap hardware and liberal use of Locktite make this nearly impossible. The traditional pocket knives seem to holdup much better at these lower price points.
@BigRedEDC4 жыл бұрын

Hello. They seem like ideal knives to practice mods on. I would grind down the flippers which for me are too big and stop the knives being used on a flat surface. Also increase the size of the finger choils. Not keen on the stilleto but like the blades on the other 3. I think i would lose the compound grind sadly on my first sharpening. I'm not good enough to keep it. LOL. I would definatly buy them. All the best.
