Cat food is a way to attract dogs. The smell is potent. Trail cam, cage, feline food if there is a sighting. Thanks for the update.

If Sadie was a hiking dog with so many miles under her belt, I have been curious to know how this happened? How did she get lost? I wanted to do my hike with my dog but after this situation I’m no longer sure if I should bring her; how did she got lost its important to other hikers with dogs in order to learn from these kind of situations. Some hikers don't put their dogs on a leash. No judgment on Bright eyes, as she may have been off leash for a moment or two. Some hikers don't control their dogs at all! Period. I would say, if you want to take a dog with, ask if you are ok with keeping that dog controlled at all times

They should concentrate a recovery search to within a few miles of the spot where the dog went missing.

It is possible local people might have picked her up and adopted her. There are people that live on Max Patch road. Seems like the dog could easily follow a dirt road as a means of survival.

If someone found her, hopefully the only reason they haven't returned her was just not having access to information such as who the owner/parent is. Is it possible to get some basic information? Like was it thundering and lightning and she was spooked, was she wearing her backpack or did she take off chasing a squirrel? I was just trying to CSI this to help with the search, I was just wondering if there was a trigger. I have sent a copy of the flyer to the NOC community center asking them to share it with local businesses. I have not heard back. I've also sent an attachment to wbtv in Charlotte and I'm going to attempt to contact the Asheville news. Sending love and prayers.

Ramdino - I contnue to pray that Sadie will be found and reunited with Bright Eyes. I can't imagine what she's going through. I sincerely believe that Sadie is missing her mom as Bright Eyes is missing Sadie.

I’m curious about the AirTag. Unless the battery died, it should show if she’s been around other iPhone users with service, right? If she was hiking with someone else, surely at some time, they would have had that happen. Unless the battery died or it was removed, you would think something would show unless she’s not come out of the woods or near people. Hopefully they find her.

So yes, we have thought the same. But most people on trail put their phones on airplane mode so in that case it would not ping the air tag. It could also be removed and not ping.

@@Ramdinohikes Town would probably ping it, but I guess if someone wants to find the owner, the dog is well equipped to do so, so taking the AirTag off would probably be the first thing to go if they didn’t.

While it's admirable that you're out there looking for Sadie. It's quite likely somebody took her. If not, the other possibility is she passed away by now. She is an elderly dog. Very unfortunate.

Yes, but the service she used was Epic Pet Recovery from Asheville. They got her scent, but the owner refused to take her dog into the woods to follow the scent

@Ramdinohikes that's weird consider she knew beforehand that the dog was lost in a wooded area. Keep hoping maybe one of dogs hiking this year will find her.

Can the owner go to the vet and have the chip tracked? When my dogs were alive they were chipped and if I lost them or whatever they said I could go to the vet and have them located! Can the owner do that?

I really don't believe somebody can tell the difference between a hotspot for a coyote and a dog. Because a coyote is basically a wild dog. It wouldn't look any different.

@@Ramdinohikes Unfortunately, bad taste is the Internet norm. I hope the dog is found. I'm afraid the reported sightings may be unreliable, though. Many dogs resemble Sadie. Remember when there were many false "sightings" of Brian Laundrie on trail? Any innocent balding guy with a beard was mistaken for him.
