Charcoal is made by burning wood with as little oxygen as possible. The organic parts are burnt off, but the carbon needs oxygen to combust, so by restricting the fire's access to oxygen, you basically just burn off everything that isn't carbon, then you can do the carbon-combusting burning later. In medieval times it was usually done by digging a pit, stacking it full of chopped wood, lighting it up, covering it with dirt or moss, and waiting until it cooled off.

The paused production causing a paused build taks on the same propery is nicely solved in "Captain of Industry" by having separate pause buttons for both actions. The downside is that the multiple pause options seem to confuse new player regularly, but it is quite often very useful (there it also comes with individual priority settings, too).

Alright, here's a little lesson in charcoal burning from someone who hasn't commented in years: The idea is to burn wood, animal parts, plants, etc. with as little oxygen as possible (by lighting some initial material and then sealing it with dirt in this case) in order to remove all water and other volatile elements. The process is called pyrolysis.

Here is what they are harvesting 😅 : March is a month for harvesting the last of the crops that have remained in the ground over winter, such as parsnips, leeks and brussel sprouts. It's also time to start harvesting forced crops such as rhubarb, and early spring crops like early spring cabbages.

When you build houses, the first direction you pull the mouse, is the way the house faces. The bold line is the front of the house, pull it across the road first. That way you don't need to keep flipping the direction of the house every single time

From what Ive seen on other channels the issue with people not being supplied with food even though there are enough supplies has to do with too little granary workers. Fix: more Families on Granaries (extended housing plots families assigned for even more workers) and more granaries.

Hi Darren, Nusslohe is pronounced Nuss-lohe. In German Nuss means nut, easy to spot this one as a German (Waldbrand is another German word). The location names catched my curiosity, so I did a little research: Lohe is a toponym (a locational term and a new word I just learned) for either a grove/woodlands or wetlands. Fun fact: there's a place in Dublin that's called Nutgrove.

Would probably be a good idea to start your settlement in the middle territory, even if no plan for what they will do. That way they can just grow slowly in the background.
@boomerix8 ай бұрын
The middle territory just naturally is the location where the military and biggest castle should be, as the troops there can quickly respond to any threat across the big map.

The crops they are harvesting in March are those that are planted later in the previous year and allowed to overwinter in the ground. Crops such as cabbages, rhubarbs, leeks, kale, carrots will stay good in the ground during winter. Think of it as them essentially just sitting in the fridge/freezer until they're ready to eat them.

I would suggest to protect The Naul you increase and raise your retinue then leave them mustered in the centre of the new village until they are able to raise a militia of their own to protect from bandit raids

What about using the middle county as the military/ industry one? It’s sole purpose is to defend the bread basket and core town/ crush the ambitious baron
@shimo_968 ай бұрын
12:02 Basically yes. The dirt starves the fire of oxygen, so it burns cooler, thus leaving most of the carbon in the wood behind. Everything else is burned away though.
@adamwalker35608 ай бұрын
There are quite a number of crops that can be harvested in (typically later) spring. Some places and some crops can be grown over winter even. It's a misconception that all harvesting is done at the end of summer/ start of fall. Basically, it can get rather complicated between different climates, different crop varieties, etc.

Ahhh yes we love Manor Lords! One I noticed the farm plots I can’t unsee it “i5555!” Postwatch edit: Hey Darren this time I’m meeting you with a small criticism. While off on your tangents(which are interesting) it would be nice if you could somehow keep the video busy. If I go back I think it was a near 4 minute span where you talked about your name and hometown( and that’s perfectly fine) BUT the entire time you simply looked into the woods without moving your camera. For those of us “active” watchers it’s a big pace killer and “can be” immersion breaking. Otherwise awesome video as always.

Great to see the new series Darren 💪 One suggestion however, though it may change your game somewhat, but I still think, it may be a good idea for you to at least think about. Maybe use the middle region as your Capital Region with a huge city focused on higher tier production also in the way of using your development points, and then use the outlying regions as minor towns / villages supporting the huge city in the middle with different types of food/goods, kind of like also in real life medieval times. Though that will ofc make you have to change the names for the regions a little, as Swords is ofc always your major Capitol like in Anno and such 😄 Anyway love your new series and hope to see lots of new episodes 😄
