Funny how this movie predicted the happenings of today nearly 27 years ago, only it's not Idaho but Texas, the issue of illegal immigration and the goverment's refusal to do anything about it, and a state defying the goverment's orders, with many more states supporting Texas in their goal of closing the border, all of it bringing the US ever closer to a hostile internal conflict. 6:38pm The Second Civil War (1997) is more intriguing than the vapid "Civil War" (2024) now playing in theaters. Civil War is about a coming of age female war photographer. Not a story about an American civil war as the title or advertising implies. The Second Civil War touches on issues, situations and the players that could possibly lead to the outbreak of another civil war. Connects more with current events which Civil War(2024) does not do.
@RingworldTyrant5 ай бұрын
Incidentally, a lot of the "underground" political trends and some of the outsider political movements, like the Reform Party or Buchannan and his associates, as well as some of the motivations from the Left or from Green Activists, are seeing resurgence now. Of the most primacy, as it was then, is mass immigration, as well as national automony and self-sufficiency. So this movie resonates far more topically than the new movie, which doesn't portray any of it. A movie that did handle the problems with depth and context would probably not be allowed to be released by studios, or would cause mass controversy and probably fuel a chaotic social situation. This movie is a comedy, but far more salient a commentary, the fact that it came from someone highly critical of the nativist sentiments it portrays notwithstanding.
@martingooding89894 ай бұрын
War movies don't have to deal with the issues at stake to be good, imo. We all know what a second US civil war will be about, so why bother? They would've ostracised half the audience with whichever side wonl ! There aren't many Vietnam movies that explained why that war happened, & lots of them are good. And what's wrong with a coming of age story in a war movie? Movies don't have to be about just one thing! I've noticed many people become enraged because modern movies often have a political perspective. In this comments section many are upset that Civil War (2024) has no political perspective. I guess movie producers can't win.

The irony of this movie is it is being proved in small parts here and there with how congress acts, how people treat issues and "debate them", as well as the conflagrations between your average person. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if I looked in this comment section and saw examples of what I refer to. But nevertheless it is a sad reality that a movie from nearly 30 years ago is showing trends and patterns of how we act as a nation and the scary reality of just how easy it is to simply fall over the edge. An American 2nd Civil War is a war that would be mired by factionalism, division and self interests. People here think the Syrian Civil War was bad, well it'll look like lego duplo blocks compared to a continental sized de-evolution of these United States, likely becoming the largest humanitarian crisis ever seen in recent memory. If I had to say one thing it is this. You will never please everyone, hell you may never even please 50 people in your life span. But just cause you don't please them, doesn't mean you should hate them. Just cause someone upsets you doesn't mean you should "kill them". Just cause things feel hard or unfair, doesn't mean you should force others to make it as such. Life was never sold to us to be easy, if it was that person was lying to you, and if someone says life is easy...well then in all honesty they're likely not truly living it.
