@them1ghtyalex4 жыл бұрын
@@fuccasound3897 Well clearly I have you numpty otherwise how would I have anything to compare David Bradley's version to (which you just had to use the fact he was about to go through regeneration as an excuse for, implicitly agreeing there was such a difference in behaviour). Regeneration does not make you into a different person until you actually you know... *regenerate!* It certainly doesn't make you start making comments that are clearly there to make a political point (moreso than any humour that comes out of it) with no care that it smears the history of the Doctor and his first incarnation, and despite those bait claims in the previous story and continuously in the next two spoof series of "Doctor Who" s11 and s12 and its spin-off media (comics for example, one in which Witchaker is actually written to say "sex is fluid on Gallifrey and gender is just a social construct", that's the Blink 10th Doctor Crossover one by the way) that gEnDeR's NoT a ThInG oN GaLlIfReY... David Bradley was a close match and a good fit, but he was not written for the benefit of the 1st Doctor, and was kind of wasted for most of the story (but not in aaisat which I'm not sure I've ever heard a bad word about and I agree it was lovely) except for just being used to enable the 12th Doctor to virtue signal, make the male to female regeneration even more pointed (and polarizing), enable the multi-doctor story and to drum up controversy and attention! I didn't say "woke" I don't really ever use that word, it's a buzzword (typical of people who might be described as woke I'd say) and an oversimplification, and anyway not an apt description for the Doctor until very recently (talking about the 12th Doctor in series 10 - as he started to suffer from the infection that had been starting to subtly infect the show for a few years); a succinct description of the half-a-character Jodie Witchaker is playing in that rip-off they're calling "Doctor Who" though! Prank Patrol is or was a show on CBBC, I'm sure you can work out what it's all about from the title, and the scenario I'm implying by saying "earpiece" - that he was being fed unnatural lines to say for a laugh (or in this case for that and making some kind of point)!
@EditedAF9873 жыл бұрын
@@them1ghtyalex I mean the 1st Doctor was much less assertive and irritable during the tenth planet so that aspect of the character lines up. Wonderful. The whole concept of the Doctor's 'renewal' (it wouldn't be called 'regeneration' for several years) must have blown people's minds at the time. There are two times that I would have liked to have been 'a fly on the wall': first, to get a reaction to viewers' first hearing Ron Grainer and Delia Derbyshire's 'Doctor Who' theme, and secondly, to witness the reaction to this scene. It must have taken many, many people well out of their comfort zone to accept this. That they did, is still astonishing to me.
@them1ghtyalex4 жыл бұрын
Accepting the regeneration would have been very rewarding though, Patrick Troughton's Doctor brings so much to the show (not that Hartnell wasn't a personality of his own, but with the amount of episodes each year and into the 4th series, I think the audience was more ready for something so fresh in the show than we realize, and Troughton delivered and personally for me usually did quite a bit more). He is one of my favourite Doctors though so perhaps that's what's bleeding through here but I'm not sure, I just think the timing was right and Hartnell's Doctor had delivered at least a great deal of what he was going to deliver already and the audience of the time probably felt that at least subconsciously... But I wasn't there! I actually don't think that Troughton's Doctor makes a very big impression in Power of the Daleks though, and takes a bit of time to really show off his Doctor (and I think his somewhat understated arrival in Power of the Daleks - which would of course have taken six weeks - was why, I've heard, that there was a mixed reaction to Power of the Daleks at the time)
@them1ghtyalex4 жыл бұрын
My point at the beginning there was that I'm not sure how far out of the comfort zone it really would have been for the audience. A shock and a surprise for sure, but a welcome one, I think. One that was so natural and was gotten used to so quickly that when Troughton's era ended just two and half years later they didn't even need to have cast the third Doctor yet, they could end the war games and series 6 with the audience knowing implicitly that when the show came back half a year later in January of 1970 it would be with a new face as the Doctor, and indeed Spearhead from Space's first glimpse of the Doctor falling out of the TARDIS doors is immediately of Pertwee, with no sign of Troughton (meaning that his last appearance and Pertwee's first appearance were half a year apart, unlike with Hartnell and Troughton or any other classic Doctors except technically with Colin and McCoy (but we're still supposed to have seen the 6th Doctor regenerate into the 7th), but the show treats the audience like they know exactly what's up anyway and that that's the Doctor on the screen, and consequently I assume they did know!
@brianartillery4 жыл бұрын
The viewers that must have been confused most, must have been those that watched the show - but not 'religiously', every week, quite happy to watch it whilst eating their tea, every couple of weeks or so, perhaps, and wondering who this scruffy dark haired fellow was. And why on earth were people calling him 'Doctor', when he so obviously wasn't? For some people, it must have been somewhat confusing and annoying.

That FIRST regeneration is a doozy aint it?
@Squicx4 жыл бұрын
This scene made what Doctor Who is today and it was YEARS AND YEARS AHEAD OF ITS TIME! The energy rushing towards his brain after a full body regeneration, the 4 beats (sort of) being the heartbeat of a time lord, REGENERATION AS A WHOLE, The official sign that this mysterious person known as the "Doctor"was in fact an alien. The second Doctor (That's right I don't believe in the Timeless child) although he's on his second life, made the Doctor this amazing wanderer that is the person we know today.

Originally it was that the TARDIS regenerated him, and his species was I think a future human. Only War Games on was he properly considered alien.

@@Yetaxa @Yeti The original plans for the show outlined he was a human from the future, the original version of the unearthly child had Susan make it pretty obvious she was a future human by saying she was from the 49th century, and there are countless lines suggesting the doctor was human. There's a great Dalek 63-88 (youtuber) video on how it was hinted that the doctor was a human.

I am in no way an expert in British language (or a native speaker), but I would've guessed that it had something to do with Cockney, leaving out partial sentences and stuff like that [("Do me a favor and") shut up.] It's also more polite, so that he doesn't have to say the words "shut up". But hey, that's just a theory. Aaa language theory.

This is the best a so-called "professional" organization like the BBC can do? I've seen smoother, more professional looking work done in MMD, or by amateur Touhou doujin circles. Sheesh, they could pick up OpenToonz for free (a free port of Ghibli Studio's animation software). (Oh, and who was that talentless hack at the end of the video?)
@LaurenceDavidJones4 жыл бұрын
One thing to do something slick looking for a short form project, quite another to fully animate six 25 minute episodes, for a product with very niche commercial appeal and a small return on investment. It's a vast improvement over the version that just had scrolling text at the bottom of the screen alongside the stills.
@SenileOtaku4 жыл бұрын
@@LaurenceDavidJones Considering the Touhou fandom have made entire multi-episode series as amateur projects, we're not talking about 2-3 minute mini-vids ( www.reddit.com/r/touhou/comments/7bnqkl/list_of_unofficial_fanmade_touhou_anime/ ). These are full productions with music and voice actors. So I *STILL* say the BBC releases are shoddy hack-jobs. They have no excuse for sub-standard work for something they're expecting to license/sell. But I've lost my expectation that the BBC are capable of decent product anymore (production-wise *OR* script-wise). At least the low-budget efforts in the 60's to 80's used creativity and inventiveness to overcome their limitations. Now they think flashy effects and a woke agenda will get them through.
