Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Not as good as the book, but still worth watching.

Elimentary my dear illbetilbake. This takes place before telephones. Active wealthy people probably wrote dozens of letters each week, which were carried about town, not by post, but my messagers and coach. If this took place today, it would be an indiscrete text or video. This was also an age where women did not ho around. Even a bit of flirting my be seen as indiscrete.

There is a Sherlock Holmes series made in France with the son of Leslie Howard -- Ronald Howard -- produced by Sheldon Reynolds. It was made in the mid-1956s +-. Their budget was so low for this series that they could barely afford the props needed for a late 1800's Holmes series. When they use a two-wheeled Hansom Carriage - you can see it was just a regular 2-wheeled Cart with a Plywood (!) body built upon it. Amazing what people will go through. This "Reynold's" production was only a 30-minute episode series. Fun and somewhat entertaining - it has gone over better on KZbin than on most country's television of the 50s.

a wonderful, beautiful, BRILLIANT series. gorgeously made and produced. so exceptionally well written. Brett and Burke were brilliant, and so was Patricia Hodge and Colin Jeavons. thank you for posting.

I keep wondering how Lucas knew about the letter-right down to its description-and the fact her ladyship had access to it. Somebody had access to vital information. Does anyone else suspect the hand of Moriarty? The Professor could have demanded a huge ransom for the letter. Did the Professor send his thugs to search for it, only to fail where Holmes brillantly succeeded? Maybe he supplied the information to Lucas, knowing he'd get a huge fee from Luca's patrons.

Inorite? But serious, that question still bugs me to this day, Where did he procure the letter from, who knew about it, who had access to it, who had it, Where did it come from and all questions of the sort.

What's funny to my French ear is that while the actor playing Lucas obviously IS French, his supposedly French wife has a noticeably English accent when she screams at him :o)

Oops, you're right. I've slipped up on my chronology. Then again, did the Professor really die? I trust Holmes's account, but who knows?

She deserved prison sentence, that's insane. If I was her husband I wouldn't have wanted to see her ever again.
