Exactly. Duster was over 4300 mm long, while Ecosport was sub 4 meter car. Both different segments. There were other sub 4 meter cars in India before ecosport but it was ecosport that revolutionized sub 4 meter segment in India, and Duster revolutionized compact SUV.

@@ShiftClubMedia ecosport was based on fiesta but some of its design was different since it was a completely new body design and i know its not full size suv like duster but it was an suv for all people around the budget of 10 lakhs and it offered better value than duster even it was a compact suv duster has some issues back in those days with the controls for mirror adjust was placed in weird position and few control issues with ecosport dont had such problems back in those days and it attracted a lot pf customers especially the hatchback buyers dont blame it was hatchback looks it felt like a proper compact suv look with spare wheel u can tell Nexon has hatchback looks not ecosport

There was a smaller, more affordable version of the Honda CR-V called the HR-V. They really should have launched it in India. I’ve always wondered why we never embraced Japan’s Kei car culture-they’ve perfected it with everything from vans, trucks, and hatchbacks to sports cars. What’s funny is that most people don’t realize the Suzuki Jimny is technically a Kei car, and we’ve grown to love it. The same goes for the Maruti Super Carry and even the Tata Ace! In hindsight, our tastes and culture are surprisingly similar to the Japanese and Italians-we just haven’t fully realized it yet. It’s like Apple products; people don’t know they need them until they’re shown what they’ve been missing. Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) is probably the most effective strategy in Indian marketing! LOL. The Indian automotive scene is always fascinating and never disappoints!

it's not India problem that japanese dont launch good products for the indian market, the japanese manufacturers mindset is very lathergic when comes to the indian market eg toyota selling badge engineered cars with suzuki in india and not a fully fledged in house toyota model in the compact suv segment, that what hampering toyota in India and just being dependent on models like hycross,camry and fortuner is making them lag behind in the Indian market

But hey, that’s not entirely a bad thing-it’s like getting the best of both worlds. I honestly think the Indian market responds to what’s demanded, though affordability and brand loyalty remain huge factors. It’s subjective, but most people already know not to expect anything truly groundbreaking from the automotive sector, especially with the industry shifting focus toward EVs. That said, Toyota has mastered understanding the difference between what consumers want and what they actually need. They’ve really nailed it!
