I did my first Audax this year and it was absolutely brilliant. No pretence, no rush about who was going faster than who with numbers stuck on bikes, everyone was friendly, helpful and easy to talk to. Not so much head down flat out but time to take in the scenery as you cycle your way round. Loved the questions on the way round. Will be doing more this year for sure 👍

That was a brilliant advert for Audax rides, Katie! And you're absolutely right, the one reason to do Audaxes is the people and the scenery. I mean the two best reasons to do Audaxes are the people, the scenery and the routes. No, I mean the *three* best reasons to do Audaxes are the people, the scenery, the routes and the low cost. Oh, dammit. (I mean no-one expects the Spanish Inquisition do they) Oh, and I've been doing Audaxes on and off since, er... 1998. So I must love them too.

Audax seems an ideal think to do. Organised locally by cyclists for cyclist. There are far too many commercially organised events with silly entry fees etc. You can't keep spending out on these fees. Very similar in the running scene. Local club runs or enter LDWA events (long distance walking Assoc)very similar off road with clues and foodie check points where time is not important.

OK, first of all, in my part of the world, the only Audaxes (Randonnées) that are less than about 200, are so early in the year, there is ice on the roads, that it is virtually impossible to take part in my opinion. Therefore only the hardcores do it, because nobody wants their first Audax to be 200 km. From what I have seen, there is no atmosphere either, like you have in the UK. So you are talking to British people when you say all this.
@phoffen38298 ай бұрын
I will go further and say that all group rides I have been on, involve food stops that consist of standing on the side of a road eating Clif Bars, if at all. Not a lot of fun. Ride by yourself. It is a better experience.
