Hi Cas. I absolutely love your Bootcamp. It has helped me a lot so thank you. I have used the Organize 365 method many times over and got great result, but your approach has helped so much. I think it is because I am a ladybug as you are. Also, all your energy is inspiring. Thanks heaps for your words about creating a "sanctuary" feel in the bedroom. I got rid of lots of office stuff and replaced it with artwork. Please keep going with all the declutter and organizing help you give! Susanne in New Zealand

I've been up since 2:30 a.m., I couldn't muster up the energy to get up and dance. I'm 73 and the sole caretaker of physically handicapped hubby that also has dementia. After doing yardwork, cleaning house, getting groceries, I'm exhausted, but I don't have dirty dishes in my sink, my house is decluttered and organized, and my laundry is done! So I'm pretty proud of myself. Go me!

I remember watching an interview with Jaime Lee Curtis where she talked about changing her story when taking with her kids. Instead of saying I have to go to work, she would tell them I get to go to work. I'm privileged to have a job to help support my family and that allows us to have fun together and pay bills. I have since always done that with my kids when their father was in busy season at work and couldn't spend as much time with them.

Great tip! I saw a similar method by Mel Robbins for anxiety, to reframe the nervous symptoms of anxiety by telling yourself you're excited... Like on a plane, when you're anxious of flying, repeat in your head how excited you are for the holiday, so your brain believes the symptoms are great

Speaking as someone with a disability that puts extreme limits on my physical capacity to clean I find tackling a single small surface at a time is incredibly effective. It isn't a huge time or energy commitment. You can tell yourself that you don't need to do anything beyond your bedside table or your washroom counter. But having the visual reminder of the small achievement builds momentum and motivation for the next surface, the next task. So even if you only have a max of 5 min capacity like I do and you need to rest for an hour or return to it the next day you can admire your progress and feel good about yourself the whole time. Making beds is great because it is a huge space and proportion of the room that feels clean and neat for minimal effort. The floor might be so messy it is impossible to navigate, but at least the bed is a break for the eye and motivate to tackle a corner next time.

I agree, making the bed is something I do every single day, even if I'm still in my pj's and just collapse back on top of it for the rest of the day. Often it's the only tidying I get done but makes the whole room feel tidy without much effort. Those 5 minute jobs are so useful, I try to do things like unload half the dishwasher while making coffee, or put one thing in it's home any time I get up for something. They do add up. I'm never on top of the house but it does stop it being total chaos!

I am the type of person who was always able to get everything finished in one day and wouldn't allow myself to do anything fun until it was done. I loved having everything done at the same time (perfectionist tendencies.) Fast forward and now I'm disabled and deal with pain and major fatigue issues along with depression. I don't get started even for 5 minutes. I'm trying to change my mindset but boy is it hard. I won't do anything versus doing a little. I know 5 mins matters. I guess 20 years of being disabled isn't enough to get my mind changed 😩

@@intherockies I, too, grieve my past and struggle to accept my current limitations. Physically and emotionally. I hear you on that lingering perfection, gotta do it all or not do any, mindset. Especially because it worked at one time and you remember how great it felt. Sometimes all I can do is during an ad, go put a dirty dish from where I am into the kitchen sink then come back down, but even one little thing is progress and other days I get a whole hour of stuff done!! If you want to try, I recommend setting a timer and just do 60 seconds of work. Just one minute. Then see how you feel. See if you feel better after that one minute. And give yourself permission to stop after that minute if that feel right, too!!

This one is such a game changer. I wish I had realized it sooner. It's actually easier and less effort to just do small tasks right away then it is to put it off. Then all those little things don't accumulate and snowball into a cleaning project that will take days. For the first time in decades my house is consistently tidy.

Joshua Becker has a great tip that helps getting out of bed/the chair. Just say to yourself that all you have to do is, "Feet on the floor, eyes out the window." Don't think about anything beyond that. And do it before you look at your phone. "Feet on the floor, eyes out the window."

this is so real:( as someone also with adhd i find it so hard to clean. i’ve been meaning to deep clean my room for months. it can be so hard to clean and find motivation to do so. i’m 17 and i never seemed to get the habit of keeping things clean for more than a month at a time. there are some methods that have helped me though, like making a huge to do and also a small to do in case one or the other is too overwhelming to me at the time. one list will have the most specific and smallest parts to feel more accomplished and one will have maybe 10 things maximum. sometimes i don’t use a to do and i just free clean whatever i can. another thing that helps is settings. timer for even 25 mins and getting a 5-10 minute break. i’ve also made time lapse vids, facetimed people, made plans at my house, asked ppl to come over to clean w me, etc to get an extra push. music that makes you dance can help, so can finding a good reason to clean like “this will help me destress/i can find that one thing i lost”. sometimes i really do have to just say to myself that if i can do a task in the next two minutes then i should do it immediately & get something done. sometimes i sit and clean also:) make a bucket or pile for things that don’t belong in the area you’re in and clean it out after your floor or bed is clean. eliminates the issue of standing fatigue and such

Before I knew it I was dancing around like a crazy person. I’m sure if my neighbors would have seen me they would have either joined me or had me committed! My energy level went from 2 to 10 in about 3 minutes. AMAZING! I turned on some music and away I went. I just sat passively, but I appreciated the idea. I am working through a depression. My eight- and ten- year old dogs just died this month within 12 days of one another and I'm trying to go forward. I have a puppy to train, so that helps, but it doesn't stop the crying fits and general depression. Cleaning bits of the house, one thing at a time, has been helping to keep me from just lying in bed and crying for my dogs.

I like everything is its place with a few things out on the counters that are used everyday but like things put out of the way when not using them. Yay! Thank you so much! We had such a messy kitchen after the weekend. We had a party and then i was out all day Sunday and Monday so today was the day to clean! Buuuuut.... I have had 0 motivation. I had to go out in the morning with all my kids and when I got back I crashed on the couch with my phone (after I put the kids to sleep for a nap). Then I saw this video! I absolutely got up when you told me to! And I absolutely danced around like a crazy gal! But you're right, it instantly made me want to start tidying! I tidied the loungeand then put some rubbish away. Then when you started cleaning, I did too! Did half my dishes but the rest won't fit on the dish rack so I get a break😉 I feel so much better about myself and my home, thank you!

I was proud of myself because I always do what you called the state and strategy. Some time ago I started clapping my hands and giving some positive words to coworkers to get them going....and it worked. I guess I already feel the story since I am usually pretty motivated, especially with decluttering, organizing and getting things done. Thanks Cass. I just knew the crickets got loose as soon as you said you put them all in the habitat. You keep me laughing 🙈

Thank you so much I am motivated to clean my house. I have you on a loop. My mom passsd away 9 months ago and she was 75 and a clean freak. When she was alive I kept my home in tip top shape. Now that she's gone I had no motivation for months. I just finished my kitchen and now in my bedroom putting away all my clean clothes. Thank you so much also today is my birthday 3/28/2024.❤❤❤

I really needed the motivation & I can see that I'm not alone in this either! I started by creating 3 document lists on my laptop, titled State (getting excited), Story (getting motivated), & Strategy (cleaning check list). In Strategy, I listed each room & a check list under each room for what needs done. 🤔I also decided to take pictures of each room once they're to my liking, then use them as part of my 'State' list to help myself see the end results. AND, to help me stay motivated while cleaning (& move faster) I decided to put my cell phone on record & create my own cleaning video. Now when my husband comes home & say's "what did you do all day??" We can laugh together as I show him my video in a fast-motion effect! 🤣

I’m so glad I found this video. My house isn’t really a mess, but my long list of chores I constantly have to do to KEEP it that way eat me up. My mom wasn’t a very clean person when I reached the age of about 14 (I’m 22 now for context). So, my new goal is to keep a clean home the rest of my life… I get how she gave up😂 but the mess is too much where I can’t function. I have to clean it up. With that said, I’ll do cleaning binges, and then a couple of days I won’t hardly do anything. Today was my 3rd day of being very discouraged, so I give a HUGEEE thank you to you. I got up, put a dirty bowl from lunch in the sink, and I’m going to make my bed and set a timer for an hour!! WE DESERVE A CLEAN HOME

I've watched this before, but I wasn't home then. Here I am on a day off, thinking it's a perfect day to get some serious cleaning done, but not, you know, feeling like it. So I came back to this video, for a refresher on what I needed to do, think, and maybe say (to myself) to get going. As soon as I got up, I started going. Paused for a fist pump, but this made a huge difference. Thank you, Cass!

I loved the segment at the end about the crickets 😂😂😂 you have a speaking style very similar to me and it makes me feel validated seeing how expressive you are about the crickets! My husband has 2 leopard geckos and I hate when it’s “cricket day” because our living room sounds like a friggin summer picnic for 3 days afterwards until they eat them all. If they all got loose I’d probably just burn my house down. I did stand up when you said to change your state and I did find it helpful to do a quick kitchen tidy after lunch!

Thank you so much for this. I've been trying to get motivated to clean for a few weeks now. I haven't been able to do anything more than the dishes once a night. Today I tried this and I dusted, scrubbed the bathtub, changed out the garbage bags, did a load of laundry, and cleaned an intake vent that was super dusty. I can't believe it. I feel so proud of myself lol. And my home looks much nicer! I deserve a clean home! Yay! This really, truly worked for me when nothing else has.

I'm home after a month visiting family in Europe and came back to the disaster that I had left behind. After that month long mental recovery I finally have the motivation to improve my hygiene habits and I'm cleaning up my absolute hell of a bedroom. After 3 hours of cleaning my closet and unpacking, I began to lose momentum but this advice has helped boost my motivation to keep going and get it done. I deserve a clean bedroom! I deserve to have a space that I enjoy and which helps me to relax, rather than cause me additional stress. I deserve to take better care of myself and my environment, and to feel proud of myself as a result. I deserve to build better habits and to live a better life in a clean space. Thank you! ❤

I tend to be pretty laid back, so I didn't jump up and down or anything, but I took a deep, pretend-satisfied sigh and smiled, and by golly, I was motivated! I had been struggling to get motivated to do even a single surface... but after that, and saying that I deserved to have a clean house, I got the living room clean (including the tops of things), got a load of dishes going, and I am having lots of deep, actual-satisfied sighs and smiles as I sit in the clean. :) So thank you very much! Life changing!

As a retired teacher, let me say, "It REALLY does work!!!" You need to make a commitment to do it everyday. Even when things are difficult, others can see and feel your excitement. It's kind of like "catching" a yawn, it's passed on without understanding why. Someones attitude is typically the most difficult thing to addjust because it take their involvement. If we can show excitement and encourage all attempts with new or difficult things, it can help us persevere. With some guidance, failure/mistakes will loose their power by considering them simply another opportunity to learn through the process. That's when we discover the most amazing things! Cas, I appreciate the enthusiasm and reminders you provide! Thanks! You GO girl!!

It works. I used you three S's. I got up and on the way to my laundry room I did arm pumps and told myself that I deserved an always tidy entry (which for most people is my laundry room). So I started with decluttering cabinets/utility closet to make room on my desk(drop zone). Made room enough to get the extra pet treats in the cabinet. Drop zone is no longer for cluttered and is usable and tidy. Did the same with cabinets above washer/dryer and cleared washer/dryer of cleaning supplies so the whole laundry room/entry way is tidy and welcoming. Less than an hour and I feel like I accomplished the worrst task of the day. I can now get on with my daily chores and have the rest of the day for a Quilt project. Yay me! I put a note in my planner for the three D's for motivation.

This is something that I've already developed through you and the other organizing cleaning type channels that I follow, I love thinking that I'm giving myself a clean house. I used to complain about housework, but now I love it :-) After note-- lol, being that my brother was allergic to everything with fur, we had snakes and lizards and things like that as pets when I was young.
