The SECRET Mistress Of Heinrich Himmler

Throughout the Second World War, there were many hidden secrets about the high ranking Nazis that no-one knew about. One of the most shocking was that a number of them had mistresses and affairs, and Heinrich Himmler the Head of the SS was one of these. He had been married to Margarete Himmler for years, and the couple had a daughter but he then began an adulterous affair with his secretary Hedwig Potthast. Potthast and Himmler had two children, and Himmler would visit her when he had any time away from his duties as the Reichsfuhrer-SS.
However Hedwig Potthast was arrested at the end of the Second World War, as she was considered a woman who had intimate knowledge of a man who ran the concentration camps. Himmler was responsible for thousands of executions, and the deaths of millions but his mistress claimed she had no information on this, and claimed he kept his SS duties secret. But her arrest report offered incredible details on their relationship, and much of this today is rather untold.

From what I understand, following the end of the war, Gudrun tried to make contact with Hedwig, as she wanted to meet her two half siblings. Hedwig informed her that she wanted no contact with her and to not call her again. Hedwig married; shortly after the war, to someone who was kind of sickly, he died a few years following the wedding. She most likely wanted her name changed more than a husband. Her first born to Himmler was a son who, from what I understand, suffered from intellectual disabilities. The daughter however, born in '44, made a very successful career as a physician.

Was it because he genuinely cared for him like he did with his other child Gudrun or rather because he wanted to have more children to continue his bloodline?

I disagree. I did 22 years in the Army and deployed to Somalia and Iraq (a couple of times), my wonderful wife had absolutely no idea what went on over there other than what the government controlled media wanted her to know.

For Himmlers part he did geinulley love his daughter Gudrun and doted on her and had her regularly flown to his office and he often telephoned her and wrote letters to her and she even accompanied him on several official duties such as in a meeting that he had with ss officials and even went with her father on a visit to Dachau concentration camp while at the same time innocent people were being beaten, starved, killed, and burned in there under Himmlers orders and it is horribly ironic how Himmler was a loving father towards Gudrun while at the same time he was responsible for the deaths of over 1 and a half million innocent children along with the deaths of millions of additional innocent people. Himmlers love of Gudrun is one of the very few redeeming qualities that he had but other than those few redeeming qualities he was mostly a horrible person.

Himmler's wife was years older than him - they met on a train and it all led from there, but she really was a truly narrow minded unappealing woman so it wasn't surprising that the other top Nazi wives had no time for her. What surprises me about Hedwig Potthast is that she should actually WANT the gruesome Himmler as a lover in the first place - I mean he's not exactly heaven's gift to women is he, and he was a screeching hypochondriac. Interestingly, Martin Boorman's son claimed that Potthast kept some gruesome trophies of Hitler's at her Berchtesgaden home - to wit, items of furniture made from human bones. He claims she showed them to him when he was a child!
