@@jeexx520 a good comparison too, especially since the inspiration for the forest children inspired Miyamoto in part by the story of Peter Pan. However, it would be silly to disregard that even the story of Peter Pan makes cultural allusions to stories much much older than itself.

Actually the original translation and name of zelda in Japan was "holy warriors" and link had a cross on his shield, the name was changed by localisation teams for the u.s and obviously Nintendo didn't want any religious references so they changed a bunch of things that were originally based on the Christian Bible. The Ordonians are just... humans. Humans exist as a specific race in Zelda, though there are more common "sub-species" of humans such as Hylians and Gerudo. In Link's Awakening, the Oracle games, and Tri Force Heroes, most, if not all, humans have round ears. It seems that Hylians are the dominant human race in Hyrule, and so that is why we usually see humans with pointed ears. 5:41 Also if the Kokiri become mortal once they are no longer influenced by the Deku Tree, why do they not age in the seven years Link is gone? When you return to Kokiri Forest as an adult, all of the Kokiri look exactly the same as they did when Link was a child.

They never left the forest. Mido was guarding the Forest Temple entrance for years after Saria "disappeared." As long as they were in Kokiri Forest, they wouldn't age and die. I believe the idea came from Peter Pan with the green clothing and always being a child because of Never Never Land.

Here's the thing: The curse of the Forest Temple which prevented the growth of the Deku Tree Sprout only manifested after Ganondorf took the Triforce of Power and his dark magic drastically increased. In fact the source of the Temple's curse, Phantom Ganon, was created after Ganondorf took over Hyrule Castle. Seeing as how Twilight Princess takes place in a timeline where Ganondorf did not become king, there logically shouldn't have been a curse in the Forest Temple, thus the Deku Tree Sprout should have grown.

Perhaps the disappearance of the Kokiri was a result of Hylians/humans expanding their lands by cutting down trees and building villages and such. Losing territory might have forced the Kokiri to recede further into the woods, never to be seen again.

I don’t know if they can grow up, their true forms are Koroks, they’re tree child spirits. I find it more likely that if they leave the safety of the forest or if the Deku Tree dies, they start to wilt away like flowers. Something like they lose the magic that protects them. Hold up, wasn't the reason The Great Deku sent Navi and Link on their quest because Ganon already cursed the great tree. And when Link was sent back in time it's to the point where he met young Zelda at the castle again after the curse. Becomes as well a paradox time travel of where why the reason of embarking if the tree was fine what would be the reason of sending Navi and Link in the first place.

Twilight Princess fascinates me in that regard. Whenever I play it I always get the feeling that there is a bible worth of text around its narrative and world building, that never got the opportunity to fully materialize in the game. This goes for multiple Zelda titles but it strikes me as extra prevalent in TP. Ordona is a good example. It's odd to me how detached the province is from Hyrule in its presentation. Ordona is separated from Faron with this weirdly bottomless chasm, that stretches out as far as the eye can see. It feels strangely deliberate that the transition between the two provinces is so dramatic and unnatural. In the vision showed by the light spirit of Lanayru, it strictly mentions that "the godesses ordered us *three* light spirits to intervene", again going out of its way to paint Ordona as something that isn't fully a part of Hyrule, even though the province has a light spirit of its own. I have for so long wondered, why? Why put in the extra effort of defining an entirely new province when structure wise Ordon village could have been a village within Faron? It just feels like one of those things where the people behind the game had a lot of ideas as to why, but there was never an opportunity to explore those questions in the game. Twilight Princess is filled with that kind of stuff.

The presence of rounded ears in TP's Hyrule made me think it was a sign of decay. Hyrule in TP was in ruin even before the arrival of the Twilight. Damaged bridges, abandoned amphitheaters, derelict roads and other buildings around Hyrule Field seemed like the Hylians were losing their connections to their gods and history. Hylians were given those ears to heard the words of the gods. As faith became less and less of a part of Hylian life, and the Royal Family became distant and hidden behind their walls, more and more Hylians are being born with rounded ears. Just a thought.
@Magnymbus

Kokiri got pointed ears too. And Hylians are mortal so you're conflating rounded ears with mortality. Ordon definitely isn't Hylian, but I'd be more convinced that they're hybrid Hylian-Gerudo than Kokiri by the ear logic. I do, however, agree with the "if you leave you become mortal" point. The Gerudo's disappearance in TP can be pretty easily explained. After Ganondorf was arrested, the Gerudo who followed him were likely branded as traitors to the Royal Family and arrested and/or executed while the rest (likely the ones who didn't follow Ganondorf) were either exiled from Hyrule or were integrated into Hylian society. Telma, for instance, looks suspiciously like a Gerudo so it's possible that she's a descendent of one who managed to integrate into Hyrule. I think it has something to do with the fact that he was in possession of the triforce of power for seven years. Hylians have pointed hears because it supposedly allows them to hear messages from the gods or something. So maybe being in contact with the triforce of power gave ganondorf the ability to hear the gods. This would also explain why he has them in the wind waker and twilight princess. What is interesting is that the ganondorf we see in botw2 has round ears, so if my theory is correct, that could mean this version of ganondorf has never been in possession of the triforce of power.

@@Faded.Visuals ganondorf snapping his neck in TP and the trailer for botw2 doesn't really confirm that they are the same person. It has been clear since the second trailer that the ganondorf we see in Botw 2 is not the same one from TP. In that trailer, we get to see a brief shot of ganondorfs abdomen, and it shows that ganondorf doesn't not possess the massive sword wound he received in TP. Instead, we see multiple smaller circular wounds which could not have been made by a sword since they are far too small. There is also the discrepancy in the shape of his ears, which I mentioned previously. Not to mention the fact that we know ganondorf does reincarnate after the events of TP, shortly before the events of four swords adventures. I guess there is a chance that this is the one from FSA, but I think this ganondorf is a completely new incarnation.

Good theory but the part about the new Deku Tree sprout never sprouting doesn’t work, as the sprout wouldn’t sprout because the Forest Temple was cursed, but in the child timeline Ganondorf was never able to curse the Forest Temple as he didn’t take over. So the Deku Tree would have sprouted
@verdantmistral442

That's a maybe. We don't know if Ganondorf cursed the temple before or after getting the Triforce. The Fire and Water Temples were obviously after because they had visible effects on the world showing what the curse did. The Spirit Temple was cursed beforehand as we know Twinrova were already using it as a base. Shadow Temple was the last to be cursed as we see it happen. The Forest Temple could have been cursed early on as the only real negative effects we see from the curse is the Sprout not being able to grow. Everything else seems to be due to the lack of a Deku Tree.
@OriginalCreatorSama
@OriginalCreatorSama 2 жыл бұрын
Let me counter this real quick. The first thing you do in Ocarina Of Time is fight in the Great Deku Tree to get the green forest gem before being sent to see Princess Zelda. When Zelda returned Link to the past, we see him appearing OUTSIDE Kokiri Forest, NOT inside. This means that you are sent back AFTER the point that the Great Deku Tree was cursed and killed. So there's still no Deku Tree. And we can assume that the sprout NOT showing up immediately, like it did in the future, is due to the Forest Temple being cursed. I mean Ganondorf is shown to be a very capable and militaristic King. He's also hella efficient if he was able to go curse all three sacred gems BEFORE going to swear fealty to the Hyrulian King. He had plans and i see no reason for an efficient military leader NOT to kill two birds with one stone and just get the forest temple with a slower curse than he gave the Deku Tree. Why go back to the forest in the middle of nowhere? "But he could have cursed the first temple when he went back to get the gem from the dead deku tree!" True. He could also have cursed both at the same time so he had less to do later, as a good militaristic leader would. Bandit isn't necessarily wrong here.
@RTheu2109
@RTheu2109 2 жыл бұрын
Gotta remember that the purpose of the Deku Tree is primarily to protect, he shows up in time of need for the forest creatures whenever the gods (or Aonuma) deems necessary, so if after Link deals with Ganondorf in the present time after coming back from the future, Hyrule becomes peaceful, so there's no need for a new protector, hence, no Deku Sprout in the child timeline, but it doesn't mean that he's not present in some way, like the forest temple in twilight could very well be an lifeless overgrown Deku Tree, or even back in the SNES with A Link to the Past, there are traces of a massive tree existing in the Lost Woods, we don't see it properly but there are massive wood trunks being used as tunnels and passageways in there. So even if the Deku Tree is not alive in those timelines he's kinda there in some shape or form and it doesn't need to be the Deku Sprout for that, some trees can exist for thousands of years, and to reinforce the theory, the forest creatures, being Koroks and Kokiris, only exist where the Deku Tree is still alive, otherwise they lose their magical aspect and become normal beings.

I've always been a fan of the idea that the Kokiri/korok only take a humanoid form in OoT because the Deku tree needs them to be so that Link can grow up mostly normally. I like to think that they are forest spirits which is why they can go from humanoid to small wooden beings. When the Great Deku Tree dies in the child timeline the kokiri/korok just vanished from the woods with the great deku tree. After the events of Majoras Mask, Link finds his way back to Hyrule, but is no longer known as a great hero, but he proves himself to be a strong knight. Eventually he moves back to his childhood home, no a mostly normal forest, and founds Ordon village with a bunch of other people. That's my head canon anyway.

TP Link is a descendant of the hero of time. To reinforce this veracity, we have the following: 1. Has Epona or more likely a descendant of Epona. 2. He lives in a tree house. Exactly like Link from OoT in the Kokiri forest. 3. The location of the Ordona village is very similar to where the kokiri forest was located. 4. The Forest temple is a gigantic tree. Just like the Deku Tree. 5. Has the Triforce of Courage. 6. Being a cowboy, he knows Epona's song. Conclusion. Most likely Link, the Hero of Time, returned to Hyrule and married Malon, they both went to live in the Kokiri Forest where they founded the Ordona village. Link and Malon had offspring. Link died in some battle far from his home. Malon raised her offspring in the Ordona village, teaching them the song that her mother used to sing to her when she was little. Link's offspring inherited the triforce, Epona and their life as a cowboys in the house of the Hero of Time. Link from TP is surely the great-grandson or great-great-grandson of Hero of Time.

Also, while it's clear that one of the Hylians' physical traits are their pointy ears, it is worth noting that it's because they can hear the voices of the goddesses. Even if most Hylians aren't as much magical as they used to be, it's one of the lore reason they have elven ears. After all, they are the people of Hylia, chosen by the goddess herself, hence their name. And the reason the Gerudos have pointy ears in BOTW is because of two things that Nintendo gave us: 1, it seems that the Gerudos started to be closer to the gods and that's why they ears' shape changed. And 2, a much more practical/biological reason, it's because of the race mixing with the Hylians. If you tour gerudo long enough and read the text boxes, you'll hear gerudo talking about the boyfriends they pick up and one lady crying over her date rejected her cus she is to tall. Kinda makes me feel bad for them, the last Gerudo male was just an evil douche and zombie Ganondorf theory kinda they had to pray to other people's tastes and put with that just to keep their race going, no wonder they drink.

Here we go. Hyrule Geography is more consistent than people realize. The developers change it up to keep gameplay fresh but they ALSO keep a lot of consistency with the general placement of the locales. The scale is how they make it feel different. And I can explain why these changes exist from Ocarina of Time to Twilight Princess. First thing you have to do is to let go of Hard North, Hard South, Hard East, & Hard West. Look carefully at the World Map for Ocarina of Time & you see this Black Arrow pointing Northeast next to the specified North. I think that's the trick the developers used to throw you off the trail. The TRUE North is REALLY that single Black Arrow. Look instead for the relative positions each locale has to each other & turn map clockwise/counterclockwise until it lines up. Lake Hylia is ALWAYS not very far from the Desert & it's always Southern-ish on the map. Sometimes there's a swamp or marsh between the Desert & the Lake like in A Link to the Past & Breath of the Wild. But there's some kind of Forest to the Eastern-ish/Southeastern-ish side of the Lake. We don't get to see this Forest in A Link to the Past because it's off the map. In Breath of the Wild, this is the Faron region with the Faron Woods which look more like a Rainforest or Jungle. In Ocarina of Time, this is the Kokiri Forest the one we're most familiar with. In Twilight Princess, it is once again the Faron Woods. So that pattern is consistent. It also exists in Skyward Sword even though we don't see Lake Hylia in that game. Faron Woods is Eastern-ish/Southeastern-ish. Turn Twilight Princess' map a bit counter-clockwise & you can see it easier. Point Lake Hylia to South & Faron Woods to Southeast. But why is the Temple of Time & the Sacred Grove surrounding it in the Faron Woods if this is the old Kokiri Forest??? Easy. Because trees grow overtime. The Southeastern-ish Kokiri Forest overgrew the lands of Lon Lon Rance & Hyrule Castle Town. Whatever happened in the aftermath of Ganondorf's exposure from Link being sent back in time with Triforce of Courage caused a destruction of the Hyrule Castle & Castle Town of Ocarina of Time. MajorLink's "A Hero's Purpose" series shows a potential scenario. So a NEW Hyrule Castle & Castle Town was built NORTHWARD from former site. A Northward Migration. That's why Death Mountain seems more Eastern to Hyrule Castle than Northeastern in Twilight Princess. Remember, we never got to see above Hyrule Castle in Ocarina of Time. We were only dealing with the bottom of the map. Link & Malon got together which explains why Epona's Song is known to Twilight Princess Link & the Ordonians. And doesn't Ordon Ranch remind you somewhat of Lon Lon Ranch??? Either it's the same place repurposed or it is built as a tribute to Lon Lon Ranch. Hero of Time Link was a fish out of water when he was sent back in time & endured the crisis in Termina. The only place he felt home was Lon Lon Ranch. So Ordon Village being a combination of that Link's childhood & adulthood makes sense. The treehouse of Kokiri Forest mixed with the farmtown of Lon Lon Ranch. Your theory is correct. The mysterious Ordonians are most likely what became of the Kokiri in this timeline. Others moved around which may explain Barnes of new Kakariko Village & perhaps Agitha of Hyrule Castle Town. AND think about the Lumberjacks of A Link to the Past. They wore green hats & clothes too, right? Without the protection of the Great Deku Tree, these may indeed be Kokiri who aged outside of the forest. There are TWO major forests: A NORTHERN one & a SOUTHERN one. We saw both in Breath of the Wild. Oh & about Northern Zora's Domain. That is near Snowpeak AKA Hebra Snowpeak. That is a DIFFERENT Zora's Domain. Something must have happened in the original Zora's Domain mountainside to the East. Ganondorf may have caused some calamities there forcing the Zoras to relocate to an alternate spring. Remember, Zoras are sensitive to impurities in the waters. They need healthy waters to swim in. The question you DON'T ask is why is Twilight Princess Hyrule falling apart with chasms in the land? Your answer lies in a separated Triforce where Ganondorf holds the Triforce of Power in another realm. Every time Triforce is not whole within one realm or outright destroyed, the land begins to rip apart. This explains why Hyrule seems more cohesive by Four Swords Adventures later in the timeline. Triforce was reunited in one realm: The Light World. A Link to the Past's Hyrule was stable because Triforce was united in Dark World. The Dark World being the former Sacred Realm & Golden Land. It ALWAYS adds up if you look at the details carefully.

I've always been pretty mixed on the Northern Migration theory. Mainly because of the location of Old Kakariko and Death Mountain relative to the location of where Kokiri Forest (Faron) and supposedly old Hyrule Field are. I find it much easier to believe that only the scale of the world was increased and that the Temple of Time was somehow magically moved or rebuilt where the Forest Temple used to be. In fact, OoT's Sacred Forest Meadow shares the same name in Japanese as the Sacred Grove (Master Sword location) from TP and ALttP, leading credence to that idea. But still, I do think the idea of a large-scale migration to be an interesting one for the lore. Breath of the Wild's Hyrule, for example, definitely gives me vibes of something like that possibly happening in its 10,000+ years past. Btw, I really like your theory about the chasms.

3:42 this would imply that the Forest Temple was already cursed in the Child Timeline, as the reason the Deku Tree Sprout didn't sprout was because of the curse. If there was no curse (because Ganondorf was caught in the past), the new Deku Tree would've sprouted like normal. It is possible then that Ganondorf had cursed the temples before Link travels in time, but then we have to consider that all temples were, and that Link/zelda/sages just didn't give a f*** about the temples

Bit late to the party, but I think one of the most important points most people forget whenever they're comparing the games in the series: The *Legend* of Zelda. We don't actually experience the story as it happens, we kind of experience a story being told. And as such there can be inconsistencies, there can be things being off (like how long a bridge is, how a direction turns out, etc.) and it still can fit in a consistent way.

I wrote a blog about this 15 years ago when I was in middle school (around the time TP came out) and I had so many great points I cant remember but one of them was that the original openings of the games started in a "once upon a time" sense, and if you put the whole text script together from the original few games it lined up and spelling this out perfectly. "Like woke up in the forest, link traveled thru hyrule field, link climbed death mountain, link swam Zora's river and exited lake hylia". Im pretty sure this is the definitive answer and there are other reasonings for this making sense/being the absolute intended canon for map changes.

I think the Kokiri turn into Ordonians. Due to the fact that there is concept art of Ordonians characters referencing the the Kokiri characters. For example Mayor Bo resembles the great deku tree. His concept art shows his forehead bearing a symbol resembling the Deku Tree Sprout. Illa's concept art shows traces of Navi design, while her personality, looks, name and role seem to be heavily based on Saria. Most Ordonians wears clothes showing decorations that resemble the fairy trails seen in Ocarina of Time's Kokiri Forest. Then there's the goat herder Fado. Who has an traditional Kokiri name. Also the Monkeys themselves. Don't share any connections whatsoever to Kokiri. Their tattoos is not Kokiri related symbols and they don't exactly act like the Kokiri.

Pretty sure that the deku tree sprout was able to grow in the child timeline because the forest temple would never have been cursed by Ganondorf. We're pretty much told by Rauru that when Ganondorf made his wish and corrupted the Sacred Realm, that all the temples became cursed because of his influence. So the deku tree was able to grow. Where it is, I don't know. All we have of the Kokiri is the crest in the temple. Is it possible that some of the Kokiri decided to leave the forest after Link possibly returned and unscathed? Yeah. BotW seems to be set in the child timeline due to references made to it in some of the game dialogs and story segments, and the deku tree is definitely there. I just think that because Twilight Link has no connection to the tree and the Kokiri like the Hero of Time did, he's not able to perceive them, and they probably felt no desire to present themselves to outsiders.

Thank you so much for making this theory Bandit! It's something I try to get people to think about it. I doubt that's the great deku tree from OOT as there are many more trees of that size ( if not bigger) in the sacred grove (lost woods) that have overgrown old castle town and the temple of time, this is also an explanation for why the map has changed. The lost woods has grown in size and area within 100 years since the deku tree was no longer holding it back. If we follow Encyclopedia it states that the kokiri are originally hylian and revert back but not every thinks that Encyclopedia is canon so take that as you will. I fully believe that the hero of time didn't abandon his people and sought to help them, so little by little did they revert back to Hylain and possibly move from the kokiri forest when it eventually got overrun with monsters, possibly moving to the ranch and becoming ranch hands there, explaining how TP link is a rancher and how the Orodons have ranching abilities. Unfortunately, we will never know.

Here are some more counter points to the theory. 1. The kokiri have pointed ears. There is no reason to suggest that there ears would become round in the absence of the deku tree, especially considering that they lived without the deku tree for seven years and never developed round ears. 2. The kokiri lived without the deku tree for seven years and did not age at all, which implies that even without the deku tree, without the promise of immortality, they still remain children.

So, if the gerudo and kokiri mixed and created the ordonians, then they would look like gerudo, and there wouldn't be any male ordonians. That is the problem with a lot of the "could this person be half gerudo" theories. Every gerudo is technically half gerudo. And all "half gerudo" are indistinguishable from regular gerudo. So if they don't have most of the gerudo traits, then they are not "half gerudo." So no, the ordonians are not half kokiri half gerudo.

I really like the points you made, however, I see a few flaws. First is the emphasis you put on Ordonian's ears, yet the Kokiri also have pointed ears. If Hylians still have them pointed, why would the children of the forest loose them after all? Also, the deku sprout confirms in OoT that it was the curse in the forest temple that prevented it from growing, and we know that curse was put in the temple by Ganondorf. Saria knows that the temple seems to be in despair when Link is an adult, but despite being right next to it when Link is a child, nothing is ever mentioned about it. So I don't think there's anything really preventing the Deku sprout from growing in the child timeline.

I always took the "If you leave the forest you'll die" to mean that if they left the forest or got too far away from the Great Deku Tree, they would begin to age and therefore not stay as kids and live forever. The only hole in your idea here is that the Kokiri are still kids when Link returns as a full adult, and the sprout hadn't grew yet during the adult timeline. So clearly whatever is keeping them as kids is still there. Perhaps residual magic from the Forest temple? My theory has always been similar, in that, some Kokiri decided to leave the forest- whether to attend the big party at the end of the adult timeline, or because they no longer had their guardian tree anymore in the child one and thus, went looking for a place where they'd be protected. Because they didn't have the Great Deku Tree to protect them anymore. They leave the forest, and begin to grow up, and that is how the Ordonians came to be. It's a hybrid between Hylians and Kokiri. There is a lot of Peter Pan allegories in Ocarina of Time, and this was admitted by Miyamoto. So, if the kids leave Neverland, they grow up. If the Kokiri leave the forest..... They grow up, and thus, eventually die.

When comparing OoTTP Hyrule, I like the idea of taking individual places, like Lake Hylia and Death Mountain as to be the same locations in both games, with ROUGH relative locations the same (i.e. desert to the west, woods in the S/SE, Hyrule field in central) but disregarding the EXACT placements and connections between areas. Given that, and the strong resemblance between Ordon Village and Kokiri Village, it seems too much to merely be a coincidence.

Love this theory. My theory on the Kokiri/Koroks is that their true form is that of Koroks but that with the power of the Deku tree they can take on other forms. When Link and his mother arrived in the forest, the Deku tree decided that the small human boy should grow up with people who looked like him so he transformed a handful of Koroks into people and called them the Kokiri. Saria relished the new experience while Mido hated it and blamed link for him having to be human. the whole you will die if you leave the forest is just to keep link safe until he needs to leave. In twilight princess, the young Deku tree from OOT is somewhere we just don’t see but his power is still weak as he is only a couple hundred years old so he can manage nonverbal monkeys. By the time of wind waker and BOTW he is much more powerful but there is no need for the Koroks to hide who they are anymore so they appear as their true form, Koroks.

Two things, Kokiri already arent Hylian yet have the ears, and also, like you said, the Deku Tree was dead for seven long years, and yet as the sprout explicitly stated, the Kokiri didn’t grow up. Also, the sprout couldn’t grow because of the curse on the temple, but that curse never happened in the child timeline so its entirely possible he just appears a little later. Its an interesting theory, but i dont think it matches up. I think the kokiri just become the koroks after OoT regardless which is why theyre in BotW, and Ordonians are simply just, not Hylian. Remember that the ears apply exclusively to the humanoids of Hyrule, in OoT the Gerudo aren’t part of Hyrule, and Ganondorf only has the ears after acquiring the Triforce and rules Hyrule. Then by BotW, they are Hyrulean. The Ordonians however, explicitly state they aren’t part of Hyrule. Whats his name asks “youve never been to Hyrule, have you?” even. Ordon is simply outside of Hyrule. Hence why they arent Hylian.

One way to explain the geography changing from game to game: each game is a retelling of events, not the events themselves. We play as Link, not ourselves. So we are telling Link’s story and with that comes misremembering and misinterpretation. Each player has a slightly different experience playing one game compared to other players because it’s a story. The maps change because a new game is a new generation telling a new story and the generation has a different way of seeing things and telling stories.

Good theory, but I have one main point of criticism (aside from the fact that no theory is perfect of course): From how I understood it, TP takes place 100 years after Ocarina of Time, which would leave basically no time for the Kokiri to evolve or to build the giant tree dungeon, leave and set up a known village. If you ignore the time factor, which isnt consistent anyway, I think this theory works though!

I’ve always liked to think the kokiri realized they could leave the forest and are now hidden in plain sight. Whether or not she’s a kokiri, I 100% believe that Agitha was at least meant to be a reference to them in Twilight Princess. There’s three women in castle town who share a unique feature that I believe to be a nod to their missing people in TP; Agitha, Telma, and Fanadi all share the trait of having three dots under their eyes (Green for the kokiri, red/orange for the gerudo, and purple for the sheikah respectively). Agitha is a child who lives alone (no parents) with a giant tree in her house and has a fascination with glowing insects (a bit like fairies perhaps). Telma has red hair and the symbol on her apron could be interpreted as a stylized gerudo symbol. Fanadi has a weeping eye symbol on her forehead and red eyes, a common trait among the sheikah. Also, Fanadi's original japanese name was "Imparess", a play on Impa's name. (I’ve written about this under a zelda theory video before but I want to post it again cuz it's applicable. Just saying in case someone thinks this looks familiar/I stole it)

Ummm... Twilight Princess explains the missing Gerudo itself... The war that killed and scattered the Gerudo was mentioned in game.

I was always amazed at how the Kokiri also just have different forms as Koroks, Ordonians (assuming this theory works), or are just plain missing. It's interesting how one appearance can't be attached to a species. Sorry to hear you got hacked :/ I know that feeling of losing important files. Love the magical fade in/fade out!

If i recall correctly there was a war that occurred between the events of Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess so peoples and structures may move. I personally don't think that the Kokiri evolved into Ordonians, but instead think the Kokiri just moved deeper into Faron woods to avoid conflict and that's why we don't see them in the game. Ordonians are likely just refugees who settled there. The rounded ears definitley gives the impression they are not hylian, at least not pure hylian. Could be Gerudo influence since they tend to have children with other races since they don't often have male children of their own but it's never been explicitly stated if gerudo even have male children besides the male gerudo born every century. My money is on their heritage is likely from another land who traveled into hyrule.

I’m soooo glad someone (you) FINALLY pointed out the ears!!!! That bothers me soooo much. I guess they aren’t Hylian, but still. Leaves a lot of questions as to how Link got to Ordon (since he’s clearly of Hylian lineage)

There are several times you can see round ears in Twilight Princess, almost like Hyrule is being colonized by humans. Look at Hena, Iza, and Coro. And there are maybe a couple Gerudo ladies, Fanadi and Telma.

When you first said the Kokiri were the ordonians, I was thinking no way, but you had me thoroughly convinced. The monkey theory also doesn't have a lot going for it, aside from them living in the temple. You can talk to every animal in that game and they're all intelligent, and we've specifically seen intelligent monkeys before.

If just like to point out one point. Gerudo desert does not share a river with Lake Hylia in OoT. Gerudo Valley does and then there's Gerudo Fortress before you finally reach the desert which is set further back than the other places but that's just me throwing that random fact in there. Great video once again. I really enjoyed it.

My own personal theory for the constant shifting of geology is that we aren't playing the exact events of the zelda games, but a mythical retelling. Certain locations and details are added or moved around with each retelling of the mythos.

I do like this theory, though it doesn't seem to take into account the pointed ears, lol. I'm not sure why they would lose them once they moved out of the forest. That being said, I do enjoy theories like this. Because they're games we can't expect things to line up 1:1. Game Devs are going to want to design locations differently and create new maps so it's not only interesting for them but for the player. So when things don't line up exactly, us as "Lore/Theory" people just sort of accept "this is supposed to be the same location just altered over time", even if it doesn't completely make sense. Having a map that looks the same every game would get boring.

Idk if I agree with the overall theory, but i definitely agree with the part you said about Kokiri not just dropping dead if they leave the protection of the forest. I always assumed what the Deku tree meant was that if the children leave the forest, they can no longer stay a child forever. They lose their innocence and begin to grow old like any other human.

Excellent video, and people, please take his advice at the end! It's so true. I had ~10 years of photos and memories deleted because Apple wanted to cancel icloud.. when I paid again, all of my photos were gone permanently. Apple Support has done nothing to help me get them back, and I would be so depressed... IF I DIDN'T MANUALLY BACKUP all of my photos monthly onto an external HDD! - I would suggest both cloud, and a physical external HDD for saving things. Thank you for the good advice, excellent videos, and thought provoking discussions, Bandit. I love this channel!

The light spirits safeguarded the pieces of the fused shadow when the interlopers were sealed just after skyward sword in the timeline, so the piece would’ve just been chilling in the tree for that entire time. Going off of the inference that the twili infection came from the pieces I think it’s more likely that the Kokiri pre-ocarina (Whatever they might’ve looked like) built the temple to contain the fused shadow after the interlopers were sealed, and just left it there. After all they couldn’t have lived there at all if there was a corrosive magical artifact sitting like 10 feet away. The core idea of the Deku trees death stripping the Kokiri of their immortality and making them mortal makes perfect sense I just don’t think I buy the bit about the forest temple, still too many questions.

the connections between OoT and TP are my favorite in the whole series. Time has definitely passed since the days of OoT, but you can still see bits and pieces of it during the age of TP. The period of time in between those two titles has always been so fascinating to me.

An excellent theory, but allow me to provide some counter points: 1: The Deku Sprout, while never shown, would have still grown in the child timeline. If Link, after opening the Door of Time, went to the Royal Family and proved that Ganondorf was evil, and had him exiled like we see in TP, he wouldn't have casted the curses to kill the sages. He needed the triforce of power to create the monsters which plagued Hyrule, but didn't get the triforce until his execution, wherein he killed the Sage of Water (correct me if I'm wrong ) with it's power. 2: Garden of Eden: Mostly on point other than the mortality being a punishment for eating from the Tree of Knowledge and Sin, not from leaving the Garden. Adam still (supposedly ) lived to be 996 (depending on what version of the Bible you read ). But your theory of the Kokiri leaving the Great Deku Trees protection and naturally aging is still solid.

Bro... I never noticed that they had rounded ears.... I ended up looking up a bunch of characters from the game. There's a couple outside of Ordon that also have rounded ears, but most have the typical pointy ones. It's a really weird detail I'd never noticed before and it's cool. I like how the theory can really explain that inconsistency.

my headcanon for Death Mountain is that there's just multiple volcanoes all over and different ones are active at different times, and whichever one is active is called Death Mountain, which could imply that Mount Lanayru, Death Mountain, Hebra Peak/Hebra North Summit/etc from BotW are all potential Death Mountains from Hyrule's past. Volcanic activity would explain why Mount Lanyru has non-freezing water, and why Hebra has so many hot springs and underground tunnels.

I’m glad you mentioned the Bible story because it made some parallels that I somehow didn’t think of for years. I’m sure there was some moral arguments when it comes to creating a sanctuary possibly dedicated to their culture and their protector by using the remains of said protector, but had no choice outside of leaving the woods. I like to think that their ears were part of the Kokori form to further detach from their mortal forms. if we’re to believe that Hylian ears were said to hear the goddesses, that legend could have been projected onto the Kokiri, maybe to imply that their ears could hear higher-ups associated with the goddesses, like the Deku Tree. The Ordonians may have descended from them instead and mingled with Hylians, but their genes came out on top. What if someone like Barnes was an Ordonian but his knack for explosives were just too dangerous, so he went to Kakariko village, which is nearby Death Mountain? We don’t see Renado or Luda’s ears, but what if Renado was also Ordonian but his ancestors didn’t agree with using the Deku Tree’s husk as a sanctuary, so they left the monster-infested forest entirely to build a sanctuary themselves instead?

If this is the case, it must have occurred gradually. When you turn into Adult Link in OoT, 7 years have passed, and the Kokiri spent those 7 years without the Great Deku Tree's Protection. And in those 7 years the Kokiri didn't age.
