He made his 18m+ jumps look so easy. But I find that seems to be the way with most world records. Whoever does one just seems to be in that effortless relaxed zone like they could have gone faster or farther.

by Jonathan, the second step was shorter and it is beautiful to see that he jumped in to the distance " NOT" in height and did not lose speed "kinetic energie". So the third jump was more than 7 meters long and no triplejumper managed to!

I am so gutted ! At the age of 15 I jumped 44ft 10in and then switched to Rugby and soccer. If I'd been given this expert instruction when I was 15 I would have stuck at it. I'm 73 now and someone who coaches the jumps here in California said I probably had the potential to clear 55/56ft ....I wonder...next life ?

42.7 km/hr means that his 10m time at top speed was 0.84. Ben Johnson, Carl Lewis and Maurice Green were 0.83. Only Usain Bolt was faster than that at 0.81. So Edwards had a top speed that was among the best ever sprinters. He was right that the key was to get speed and then maintain it through the phases. His key was to come off the hop carry the speed through into the step phase. He could do it even with a fairly long hop because he was going so fast and had the right amount of height on the hop and the right dynamics.
@jacqueshughes30853 жыл бұрын
Linford Christie and Colin Jackson both said that Edwards was faster than them over 30m and could have trained to be a 60m sprinter. All he ever needed was 30m for TJ. He was also fast enough to train with Frankie Fredericks. I think that the fact that he wasn't heavily muscle-bound i.e. quite light had something to do with it.
@redd6054 жыл бұрын
With the last faze , the 18.40+he did is the real world record very unlucky with the wind speed . Taylor should not be anywhere close to breaking it. That was his perfect jump not because of the distance it was more smoother and control

No, Long Jump is a jump with the balls of your feet, triple jump uses your heel. Triple jump is based on bounding and gracefully moving outwards while long jump is one big spring and rotation of the arms.

No way he was going at 42.7 km/h that is higher speed than the majority of 100m sprinters will reach in their races. Justin Galtin in a 9.89 race hit that same top speed. I aint buyin it😂😂
@coxfire9 ай бұрын
Only on short distance of 18 strides only, not a full 100m, so definitely possible. His speed was well renowned in the field
@actual_random9 ай бұрын
@@coxfire The don't maintain that speed for a full 100m either. 10-20 at best. That's also faster than all long jumpers. It's definitely wrong
@mathewjones88868 ай бұрын
@@actual_random He trained with Olympic sprinters and was quicker over the first 30m. As someone above noted Linford Christie said Edwards was quicker than him to the 30m mark. His speed is well documented and quite easy to look up, might be worth doing a little research before you so pompously dismiss something you clearly know very little about.
@actual_random8 ай бұрын
@@mathewjones8886 This is not the 30m mark is it? This is top speed, top speed is reached between 50-70m. He is not as fast as an elite sprinter complete nonsense. Even the fastest jumpers long jumpers don't reach 11.9 m/s on the run way. Carl Lewis was 100m champion world record holder and wouldn't be running at 11.9 m/s in long jump let alone triple jump, 11.9n/s is the best carl could achieve in a 100m race with legal conditions. Absolutely no way that Edwards was doing that from standing while doing triple jump. You clearly don't know anything about sprinting or long jump.
@mathewjones88868 ай бұрын
@@actual_random He was covering 11.6 m/s at his fastest which equates to 41.7 km/h. Go and look it up instead of assuming you know better. There is an article from New Scientist magazine which covered it in detail as they broke down the way his speed dropped through the phases. Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant, it's a proven fact which can't be disputed so unless you have any evidence to the contrary then you'd be better off keeping your uninformed assumptions to yourself.
