It's as simple as practicing - the sooner the better. Start now so you don't bomb that interview you worked so hard to get.

Right on, that advice is spot on... And for people who are uncomfortable just writing their own programs, they need to PRACTICE the implementations of the fundamentals; loops, conditionals, data types, handling errors, figuring out order of operations, and so forth. Great vid man!

Thanks to your channel and others I decided to give coding a try, I'm taking a course and I love it. I'm taking my time out to study study study and practice everyday with breaks of course lol I'm putting in at least 4hrs per day with my lecture + notes examples and then practice.

I hacked through freecodecamp algorithm section very slowly. I finished the section in august and haven’t touched algorithms again. 😂😬 I am still working through freecodecamp curriculum though. This is a good video. I really like the sports analogy. Keep up the great work! I was gone all day and missed the upload almost. Glad I scrolled through notis😂 It’s also hard because I’m on chromebook and don’t have a local dev station. Could really use the MacBook lol.

One thing in life of programming, is never stop learning and creating logics And there is difference between competitve programming and going to a collaborative work space, as an team player as you dont have to know everything, you can get help, and sharing ideas, and building an whole infrastructure from different ideas

1hr a day is a good initial goal to make it sustainable. Loved your point that just being there and putting in the time is the important thing, even if you don't solve a problem in that time
@aaronbrown38203 жыл бұрын
Your point @2:20 has harsh ramifications and the tech community hasn't realized it yet, if the problems continue to get more difficult , and positions are scarce, the field can get hyper competitive

Another thing is not cracking under pressure cuz when the interviewer is staring at you expecting you to code like a god, its hard not to just blank out
@dummycodes3 жыл бұрын
true but that pressure for the most part disappears if you've seen a problem before. That's where I want you guys to be, same for myself. Work on enough problems so that you are less likely to be surprised

How much does it suck that you have to do leetcode or hackerrank questions over and over again 'practicing' something that you know you'll never use when you get hired? I fking hate my life having to do this shit. A while ago I spent a month doing this shit every day and it barely helped at all when I took the actual tests. Guess what I didnt get the job and didnt do well enough according to the hiring manager. A few months later when I decided to start looking for a job again, all that work I did was for nothing and I have to start all over 'practicing' this useless shit again. Man fuck technical tests.

If its extra hard it may be because you need to review background knowledge on data structures and algorithms

yeah everyone starts like that, but the more you practice the more tools you gain to figuring out problems

These interviews are totally unrealistic and a lottery. They have nothing to do with real work. The best we can do to protect our profession is to deny us as a collective to do these interviews. Have you ever seen a medical doctor obligated to pass a practical exam to be hired? Have you ever seen a civil engineer to be obligated to design a bridge in an online interview with terrible tools and under high pressure and very limited time to be hired? That´s the problem with this profession. We are not a serious and strong collective like civil engineers or medical doctors. We dont have dignity or respect for ourselves probably because there are a lot of impostors.
