Besides Tohru Honda from Fruit Basket, Tanjirou is perhaps one of the few characters that I've ever seen in media that uses their kind hearts and empathy for others as their strengths. These two have been able to change many people's minds and help set several characters within the respectable series down the right path, thanks to their empathy. Empathy is the rarest trait of high emotional intelligence. Being able to read the situation and engage other people's emotion while still being able to empathize with their sorrows or angers is an invaluable asset for anyone to have. Unfortunately in today's modern view, many people view empathy as a less-than-desirable trait as many people would empathy often get taken advantage of. It is very unfortunate when you stop to think about it. That's why I think Tanjirou and Tohru are the greatest heroes in today's modern world. They are the best representatives of the true potential of empathy and how it can be utilized effectively to help others.
