The Secret Rock History of The Pretty Things: Pt. 1 "influencing all, except the charts" 1964-1976

Contained here is 70 minutes of music detailing the history of the British rock band The Pretty Things who influenced Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Ramones, The Clash....basically every big name in classic rock you can think of. Yet somehow they never had a hit past their first 2 years. This video is a quick tour of their early career, going chronologically and selecting only one song for each and every album by the band (including all the "hidden" albums not often compiled) as well as the occasional standalone single. Included are tidbits about the band changes and their influence, along with pictures. Come hear the most influential rock band NOT in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

As somebody who feels he knows a thing or two about the Pretties, I can really appreciate the breadth and depth of the two compilations you have put together. An excellent representation, especially give the self-imposed limitation of selecting "one track from each album going chronologically, along with singles and offshoot solo projects". It is a frustrating oddity that, even when another person expresses an enthusiasm for a band you like, it often turns out that their favourites greatly differ from your own choices, and so in fact you enjoy two quite "separate" bands. But emphatically not the case here. 👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you for compiling this. I "Walked" most of the 20 mile's to the Winsor Ricky Tic club to see them ! {Got a great lift home ! }. I was going to write, Liked all but "Get a Buzz" {Never did like that song} until the end ! ! ! Can see WHY Phil hated 'Tonight'.

"Can see WHY Phil hated 'Tonight'." - A widely held view, probably as the musical approach is at odds with much of the band's other material. But if presented out of context, as the latest single by an unknown new band, it is very easy to enjoy on its own terms. At least that's what I thought when they performed "the new single" at Birmingham University in the spring of 1976.(*) The interplay between the different vocalists was very striking and, despite his unfavourable comments in later years, Phil sang it that night with a broad smile. (*) Google tells me it was actually on 1 May 1976 - the day of (i) "one of the biggest shocks in the history of the final ... Southampton beat Manchester United 1-0 through an 83rd-minute goal from Bobby Stokes (ii) the BBC broadcast the last ever episode of Dixon Of Dock Green. Vital historical context, eh?
