@@JasmineApple So, I explored those steps last week. What amazes me is how much these stairs are "hidden". Property owners overgrow vegetation directly to the stairs(I'm sure the actual city line specifies a foot or two of buffer). Trash cans laid on the path(bottom Durand/Belden stairs) or adjacent to entrace. Cars parked directly in front of the stair entrances(I saw the same "white prius" documented in google street view photo on bottom of Beachwood/Westshire stairs). A big tree leaning over the top of Pelham/Woodshire stairs on Pelham side. You get the feeling the private residents don't want you around. I got lost a few times to find them so I gave up. Last thing you want to do is walk around and ask directions to private residents who want to keep you away from their "city tax paid" public roads and stairs.
@MothGirl007 Жыл бұрын
@@trexinvert I grew up there and yes, one does get tired of the tourists and the lookie loos. It's a quiet residential area and the residents value their privacy.

Great Video! I'd love an excursion up Bella Drive to see what's going on with the new owners of Falcon Lair...they are going to expand it a lot..at least that was the plan a couple of years ago when it was bought...(I'm writing this in July 2023).
@JasmineApple Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm not sure you'd be able to see anything if you went up to Bella Drive. The back of the house faces the street. It's fenced, so any improvements would be on the hill in front of the house -- not visible from either Bella Drive or from Benedict Canyon. I looked at it on Google Earth. The imagery is dated May 2022 -- it looks like they may have done some excavation on the hillside, but the house hasn't been expanded, there's no pool. I'll keep an eye and see if anything changes!
@rudolphvalentinoconnection8298 Жыл бұрын
@@JasmineApple Oh, that would be great! I keep checking Google but since I'm not there I can't discern that much. The plans I saw are insane..huge expansion but keeping the old garage that is the only thing still standing. Cheers!!

A lot of LA seems pretty depressing, especially Skid Row. But the Beachwood Canyon area is what I've imagined the city to be, with the movie studios attached. Who owns the chickens? They remind me of my hometown.

Hi Keith, Yeah, the sheer volume of homeless, particularly since the pandemic, can be really depressing. It makes me appreciate what I have. I'm not sure who owns the chickens. It was pretty cool, but completely unexpected to see a chicken coop!

Hello Jasmine: ♥ I loved your video with one exception! You did not identify something historically "significant" to movies. ONE of those stairs, probably the LONGEST one was integral to an important chase scene from a very famous 1956 movie called "INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS" which has become a cult classic that appears on many lists of the best science-fiction movies of the 50s. Starring in the movie were KEVIN McCARTHY, DANA WYNTER, CAROLYN JONES (yes, Morticia of the Addams Family TV show), KING DONOVAN, WHIT BISSELL, and RICHARD DEACON (Mel Cooley on the Dick Van Dyke Show) among many well known character actors. I guess you didn't know that bit of Trivia. ☹

If you mean the very first frame of the video with the hollywood sign, that's on Beachwood Drive, just north of Franklin. If you start at 1:48 in the video, I show how to get there from the Capitol Record building in Hollywood. You'll see the Hollywood sign as you're driving north. If you're talking about the 1st location that I'm on the screen, that's also on Beachwood Drive, in front of the stone gates. The closest business is the Beachwood Cafe, at 2965 N. I'm sure some or all of those stairs were shown in the movies from time to time. I remember watching The Three Stooges Moe, Larry, and Curly using a flight of stairs to escape their nemesis in one of their shorts. Could it be one of those flight of stairs shown in this video that they were using?
@JasmineAppleАй бұрын
I searched for Three Stooges Shorts, and found one with stairs called The Ache in the Stake, where they are walking up a lot of stairs with a block of ice. That was not these stairs -- those stairs are in the Elysian Park area.. Based on your description, it doesn't sound like this was the short you were thinking of, since no one was chasing them. But these stairs were built in the 1920s, and the 3 Stooges Shorts were between 1934 and 1959, so it's very possible that one of their shorts was in this area. If you recall the title of the short, let me know, and I'll dig a little deeper.
@williamwatson4625Ай бұрын
@@JasmineApple The title of the short is "An Ache in Every Stake", indeed, and it was shot in 1941. Moe, Larry, & Curly can be seen going down a flight of stairs in the end using a board.
