When it was evident this wouldn't happen, the hardliners attempted a coup in August of 91. It failed and the Soviet Union was finished. There was a near civil war in 1993, and Boris Yeltsin became president. He had good relations with US but he was weak, drunk, and kinda dumb. Putin became president afterwards. He's been president since except for when his PM was president to fulfill the constitutional restrictions

So the story of Black Ops 6 could take place between the years 1990 and 2003/4, with 1990 being the beginning of the Gulf War, 1991 the end of the Gulf War, 2001 being 9/11 and 2003 the beginning of the invasion of Iraq (2003) and the subsequent occupation of Iraq (2004-2011) but the game basically ends in 2004

I think if they really want to do what they said about being "Critical of both sides" in terms of this conflict in Black Ops 6, there needs to be some acknowledgement in the game about how the United States had funnel chemical weapons to Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war. Something that was extremely controversial and even caused problems for US soldiers in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. I think it would be really interesting if in the story our CIA characters like Adler, Sims and whoever else have to reckon with the fact that they had a hand in Iraq being in the position they are in at the time of this game. And then further that by going forward to 9/11 and showing how they had to create evidence to frame Iraq as a country connected to Bin Laden and Al-Qaida, as well as being in possession of chemical weapon technology in order to justify and invasion and finish the job. Which would give Call of Duty a great sub series where you in fact are not the good guy. Just one of many different warring factions that are immoral in their own degrees. I think that would be really cool and it would be awesome to see maybe characters like Frank Woods and Alex Mason become really disillusioned with the CIA because of how badly they've been effing things up for a while. Realizing they too were just cogs in a machine. And this can play in perfectly because George H.W Bush at one point was CIA director and his biggest controversy was Iran-Contra. Something that I hoped would be touched upon in Cold War because it happened around the same time. I really hope this time around Black Ops 6 brings us back to a hard edge and being critical of actual government and intel agency malfeasance. Kinda like what we saw with Modern Warfare 2(2009).

While I agree the game will probably focus on the first Gulf War i think we might see some scenes and possible missions in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, and Chechnia. The Yugoslav wars started in '91 and lasted throughout the decade with NATO eventually playing a major role, Al Queda had their first major terrorist attack in '92 in Yemen and the first trade center bombing occurred in '93. Additionally the first Checen war started in '94 and within proximity within the area around Iraq. Im thinking we could see possible influence in all of these events from governments or even the black ops unit we will be in over the course of the games.
