I watched Dr. Waldingers' original Ted Talk when he presented their decades long study results. Both then and now, wonderful reminders. Thank you both very much.

Great video! It actually makes me think of how detrimental the wrong relationships can be if the good ones make such a positive impact. You can feel so incredibly lonely while being surrounded by many people.

What if your 71 (me) woman, no family, and kinda choose to be alone. I’ve experienced a lot in my life, and feel I don’t want to entertain anyone anymore. I garden, go to gym, go shopping and love to walk. Am I doing more Harm to myself?

I feel like this exhaustion you have with “entertaining” other people might have to do with negative experiences around them, no? In which case you’re probably an unusual example … Jim usually addresses the general public, but obviously not all of us will fit into such neat boxes

My personal take on this first of all is I could see myself in that same situation and being quite fine with it. I think that if I was I would focus on placing a lot of value on the interactions I did have such as a simple smile in passing, or "Have a great day" to someone even if it's a stranger. Holding a door open for someone and just feeling that connection for that moment I think would be a great thing for myself anyways ❤️ Wishing you Love and Hapiness!!

However, question. Surely not all social connections can be health promoting. What about those who instead of feeling more socially connected after conversating end up feeling even more alone in the end? What if there is fear of other people. Fear of judgment? What if being social associates more with negative thoughts, feelings and experiences? What advice would You give?

That’s why my friend got an angered issue. He need to meet the person who can have a good listener. I can’t listen anymore to him because of too much pressure from him. I know I need to help him and listen to him but i got depression with him. Sick and tired with him. He should go to world for searching for good people.😢

As many psychologists, psychiatrists and even anthropologists would say, humans are social animals. It is almost impossible for one to live life without forming a connection with the outside world whatsoever. Hence, it is then self-explanatory that as one of the most important steps to enjoy life with meaning, fulfillment and happiness, we should start building and caring about relationships with people, especially with our friends and family. In this ever-changing, unstable and unpredictable world, they are the ones who we could rely on and hold onto.

I'm 48years old living in California, I'm hoping to retire at 50 if things keep going well for me. Bought my first house last month and I can't be more proud that am i now. I'm glad I made great decision about my finances that changed me forever but now I can't seem to make any other smart investment.

I absolutely agree that the quality of relationship predicts happiness.. most importantly when we have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible. Even when we have no one to be with, but when we have Jesus Christ in our life, we can always have the joy and satisfaction within ourselves that can exude happiness.
