Be aware that using the filter on the catch-can causes a vacuum leak. The car will run but will be lean. You must block off the filter opening to use this on a vacuum sourced PCV like the stock setup. To use the filter, you need to have it connected to the valve covers with the vacuum port(s) plugged on the engine (non-PCV style).
@Greenlightfilming2 жыл бұрын
You would be correct if this catch can didn't have a check valve that closes under vacuum.

While I agree that using a catch can does help with the oil issue, using a vented can has to be the best ways to ruin the car driving experience. Oil vapour smells so strong and it fills the cabin when you vent it in the engine bay. Always showing up for dinner smelling like an oil change shop gets old pretty quick. One way to avoid it is to run a venturi tube in the exhaust and plump the top of the can to it. The passing exhaust creates a small vacuum that draws in the oil vapours and sends them them out the back through the exhaust. Obviously, you can't do this if you're running cats ... but if you're running a catch can, chances are you're not running cats.

Mr. Green, I use catch cans on my 6 banger Vortex and my little LS3. I've used catch cans on other engines too. I never install those little red filters on the tops of them. I leave the holes for them blocked off. I've never understood their purpose. Seems to me having an Open hole there causes a leak in a Closed system. Also, I perfer spun stainless steel (pan scrubber) as a filtering media and really a catch can's optimal benefits are to be had when the catch can is mounted at the Lowest Point possible on the vehicle. Check it out if you want to. I don't come here that much anymore...maybe I'll check back. I had to check with Mighty Mouse about the filter, as you weren't the first person to ask about this. You are correct that it's a closed system, and the open filter would be a leak in the system. @@deankay4434 would a regular turbo style catch can work better?
@deankay44342 жыл бұрын
@@damnitdang (Cool name dude) I am not a catch can expert, but I do understand engines. Running a power adder such as a turbo changes things, depending on max boost, normal intentional use and current condition of your engine. A turbo greatly increases volumetric efficiency by shoving air into the engine. This if used on an engine with ring gaps wider than spec, somewhat new and used several times each week to make the guy in his 14 year old Mustang change his under-britches after he stops crying, no problem. Let us built an oil catch can system together and you can easily compare notes to watch you have! Cool... The preferred set up is to pull crankcase fumes from the center or valley of the engine if possible. Other wise, get where it is easy. I like easy! If you have a oil catch can with a top filter, use it. Run the hoses normally. (Can Placement) Put the oil catch can away from the radiator, engine block and especially exhaust. These cans are aluminum and gain heat and hold it. Place the can (If able) behind a headlamp will get mostly all outside air to cool the can. (Ideal place is touching the aluminum A/C accumulator if there is room) If able, after mounting or fabricating a better bracket, zip tie the can so it touches the accumulator. Many don't use them but I don't know what you have as newer cars & trucks place an insulation Shield around them. If you have one with room, cut a 1.5 inch slice out of it as round on round don't fit well, but just touching it with a slight amount of insulation gone (Save it, if selling 5-9 years, black weather stripe adhesive will look new) The turbo my friend, at conditions of high boost will or May over-come the oil catch can with volumes of normal blow by and now exit the top filter. That is the only reason to have this filter unless you have over 500 cu in under the hood. I truly hopes this helps you, and brings you an understanding that leads to success. (Note; Intake valves for years got so caked with carbon, they absorb fuel. This cause hard cold starts as the carbon act like a sponge holding fuel, robbing the cylinder so lean it wouldn't fire or stay running cold. Damn I am old!)
