I've bought 8 different eclipses in the last 2 decades. They DON'T have bad automatic transmissions. They are such great cars. Actually, any time they need something replaced, it is always small, and the exact same part typically in each year/model after 100k miles (I'd be happy to provide the list of "what breaks on Eclipses after 100k" if anyone wants it! Lol). With that being said, the one I've kept the longest is my 2012 Spyder SE, purchased a decade ago. This video caught my attention because when I purchased it with 60K miles, in mint condition, I only paid $6000 🤣. What a steal!!!! I got it from a dealership (they got it from an auction). Now it is pushing 215k miles, and it drives like it is still brand new. Nowadays the bigger issue is finding parts for the Special Edition 2012. The other editions still have parts available but mine is so hard to find!! But gosh, it sure does have a lot of fun features!!

I have a 1G DSM, manual, AWD, turbo, drive it year round. Sure, it developed a fair amount of underbody rust but nothing too bad, got all of it off, treated and painted it, looks almost new. Replaced everything you need to replace on a car that old, belts, bushings, bearings, BJs, tie rods, struts, gaskets, seals, etc., rebuilt the trans, put in a new clutch & PP, the works. Still needs a little work but nothing serious, runs great. They really built those cars well and if you treat them well they treat you well.

If you go to the right people auctions can be great. The guy I go to is mainly a shop but he loves volvos and goes up to the better-tiered auctions with warranties to see if there are any good volvos he can get his hands on. You let him know what you have for cash what you are looking for and he will let you know if its there. Waits for really good clean vehicles, goes through them 100% to see if they need to be sent back and is honest. Owned 4 vehicles my whole life and 3 of them have been through him and all of them have had barely any issues. Latest vehicle he got me is a 2017 Fusion 2.5 63K miles and it came out to 14,500$. Far better pricing than the dealerships.

I just saw this and this was exactly my situation, except I got mine for 1500 with front end damage (hood, front bumper , radiator and fans). Lovely cars. Support sucks for aftermarket but it’s one of the best daily vehicles ever. It is also a tank, check the frame, layers and layers. It will sacrifice its life to save yours. The front seats are the best. Take them out of a non-spyder, put them in a spyder, boom. THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT THESE CARS IS THE WEAK AUTO TRANSMISSION. :) oh and, insurance is 45 bucks. Yes $45. Even though you don’t care.

Bought a 2002 Mustang convertible 6 cylinder. Only 94.4k on it. Starts up the first turn of the key. Even the roof is in great shape, though, not perfect. Clean, no rust on the body or undercarriage. Leather interior is nearly mint. I never owned or have ever driven in a convertible before, so I grabbed the deal. Sadly, I don't have a place to store it in winter so probably won't keep it long. Wanted to enjoy the experience though. I live in NY and this car has never seen salt, would like to keep it that way.

In 2019 I got the Lancer's cousin, the outlander sport(same platform and engine) and it is an excellent vehicle in snowy places with the all wheel drive and I don't even use snow tires. Despite what Scotty has said about this brand, reliability is typically quite good on Mitsubishis, by most accounts ...just make an effort on good maintenance like changing engine oil and especially transmission fluid changes, which a lot of people tend to overlook.

My wife drives a 2016 Honda HRV with 122,000 mostly freeway miles. So on a 70 mile round trip, I would say 60 Is open freeway miles minus about 10 of that being stop and go freeway miles. I have the oil changed every 3000 miles and have followed manual recommendations on "other". I hatrrgggd the transmission fluid replaced on June 2. It's been a great car with the only annoying problem being the driver side sun visor just kinda hangs there like a spring went "BOING", and I can feel the passenger side is getting mushy as well. I'm very proud of my wife, she looked into many different dealerships, did the research and chose the Honda. She could've done a lot worse. Now it's MY job is to see to it that it lasts into retirement, she'll be 62 and I'll be 61, both in August, 2 days apart. My question: should l be considering replacing the timing belt (or chain)?

Hey Scotty, I’m looking at getting a 89-90 or 90-95 old Toyota pickup truck for a first ever project vehicle. Are they good vehicles for a novice or new coming mechanic? Much love from Michigan!

Once a car is wrecked , you can have lots of electrical issues with it . Even Scotty has mentioned this before . And when its time to re-sell ? You won't get much for it , if it shows up on a Carfax that it was wrecked or totaled .

Out here in the boonies, you can get a 60's or 70's truck (Or Car) for chump change. Major components for those grow on every tree. I'm not courageous enough to buy a computerized space ship. too much to go wrong on them.

Now this is smart salvage car shopping in this case. The guy knew who he was buying the car from. Honest dealers.
