I love that you guys focus on the hands not getting deep, but instead staying in front of your chest at all times. I've been getting too deep for years, and it's a ball striking killer. When I focus on a backswing that solely relies on my chest taking the club back my ball striking improves dramatically. Great work guys.

Actually what you need DJ is to get your arms on top of your chest! This will make your life trying to get your elbows close together way way easier. This is a huge huge thing for anybody with a big her stature or a really muscular physique or chest! simply said over the golf ball stand up lift your hands above your head in front of you and then lower your arms down to regular setup and you’ll feel your arms relax more on top of your chest. Let us know how it goes!

The trail arm and trail hand is very passive during the golf swing. Ben Hogan talked about wanting one only moments before impact when he could extend through the golf ball and he wished he had three trail arms and hands to apply three times the power!

Something worth noting is the importance of keeping that arm structure, not just in the backswing, but in the downswing as well. Because our elbows will naturally separate slightly at the top, as our hands travel a further distance than our bodies rotation, many players will leave that separation or even increase it during the downswing. An effective feeling during the downswing js bringing those elbows back together, focusing on keeping that right elbow in front. I like the sensation of initiating the downswing with the right elbow, and feeling like its beating my entire right side to the golf ball. If you record yourself DTL, you can notice just how drastically a small change in right elbow position will change the steepness of the club.

Upload to the wrong location with it on Porzak instead of Pitt? I like the right arm (give blood) hanging next to the grip and passively going back in sync with the left arm, torso. Ernie Els has mentioned liking to take the club away with the left arm/left shoulder. One thing that worries me with using the left arm for takeaway is the possibility of the arm abducting across the chest (making the arm swing deep and across the chest) if the chest doesn't turn properly.

Great lesson and video. I suffer from this very same thing (I am sure there are other faults as well but I know this is one of them). I film my swing over and over again and consistently see this fault in my swing. Lately I have been working on better rotation which has helped but my right arm still gets "stuck" which I have attributed to lack of connection in the back swing. I am rather athletic and moderately muscular and I have always relied on this to get me through. But this is not even close to enough and probably gets me in trouble. I need better structure and fundamentals. Anyways, thanks for the vid and will definitely give these drills a try.

I’m sure you’ve heard this before but I have the baseball swing. Played a lot of baseball as a kid and then coed softball as I aged. That swing is ingrained in my sub conscience. On top of that, I was a right handed dead pull power hitter. That leads to flipping the wrists and weight landing on my back foot. When I slow down, I can make myself get the weight in the front side but I tend to spray it all over the place. I’ll pull one, make and adjustment and then loose the next one right. I’m a train wreck lol

Do people say they feel like there isn't as much pressure shifting in each foot when keeping the bump? I don't mean like there's no shift.. It's like it just doesn't feel as much pressure as lateral shifting.
@johnharrington6122

Personally , I believe that knowing the pressure points in the grip is the real secret to upper body rotation and a connected arm swing that will repeat : Last two fingers of the left hand , middle two of the right , smothering pressure of the right thumb pad on the left thumb and the big knuckle of the right forefinger against the side of the handle , the right thumb doing nothing !

Great video as always! When you talk about using the back of the left arm and shoulder to accelerate the club in the downswing, how does this not result in ‘pulling the handle’ and consequently steepening the shaft?

Now I'm focusing on kepping my lead arm connected by moving the club with my core turn and almost immediately squeezing the lead pinky which keeps the club head outside the hands.
