The Secret to Creating a Cozy Cargo Trailer: DIY Insulation. As with anything, there is an order that things should go in. I would love to install the DIY Race Cabinets that we built, but things need to be done in the proper order so this week we are insulating the roof of the cargo trailer. Then we will paint the walls, install flooring THEN we can install the cabinets. YAY. This should not only reduce noise if we ever decide to camp in it, but it will hopefully keep it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. I also made a mistake on my saw. I didn't realize there is another adjustment that allows the table to expand to 47". I didn't need to use the aluminum and clamps. That will teach me to read my manual next time LOL

Good call on the "bonded membrane" foam, I tried the same-ish thing years ago with the 2" green foam board with 3M spray adhesive turning it into a science experiment and was wondering if you'd run into the same problem. Love the "hardcore/(chuckle)". Seems like it only takes a couple weeks to start getting the itch to ride again and 50° is my limit. It takes SOME of the fun out of it if you come down with pneumonia or have to bundle up like the kid in the Christmas story.😊

Thanks man! Funny story, 3 winters ago I rode all winter long. There was maybe a couple days I had to use my truck but for the most part I rode non stop. Granted it was a mild winter but I still rode in 20 degree days...really just to be able to say I did it, but I agree, I'm a fair weather rider for sure. I don't even like it when it sprinkles.

Thanks Jim! Yah its pretty nasty stuff. The trailer has factory side and roof vents but it wasn't enough to overcome the smell so I ended up opening the side door

Brandon, the material to cover your walls that is white is called calcite, or FRP, also called fiberglass reinforced panel, is available in home centers, and would make that trailer look more complete.

Brandon, i got to tell ya.....I cringed when you were going to spray that adhesive on the foam! LOL It brought back a flashback from many years ago when i had to clean an evaporator coil on a large window air conditioner. I used this "waterless" solvent cleaner that you just spray on and it evaporates. No muss, no fuss! Well you guessed it, that unit had a styrofoam drain pan under the coil! Yep, I was horrified to see the drain pan completely disappear when that solvent hit it! Not too funny at the time! You mentioned that your insulation has a coating on it for protection, but at first I thought you were in for a shock! It turned out great BTW. Good job!

Really nice insulation installation... I use those foam sheets a lot. My metal patio cover would 'weep' with the humidity but after I put the styro under the metal roofing, the dripping stopped. What's the deal with the roof of your trailer... Hailstorm? Meteor Shower? Pigmies with Pickaxes?

I think so. It doesn't get crazy hot in the summer and this winter I kept a small heater in it and it wasn't melting the snow on the roof so I think it's working

I would kept the insulation free hanging hoping it did leave gap between the roof and the insulation, a air gap would definitely add r value i thought

I'm not sure. I know an air gap is important but weather it needs to be between the roof and insulation or ceiling and insulation probably won't make much difference considering my walls and floor aren't insulated. I figure anything is better than what it was
