I was George's assistant on EWF's All 'n All album. He never yelled at me, never made me cry, and boy, did I learn a lot-and I'm still learning.

Biggest takeaway from this: being great enough to tell the truth doesn’t always lead to being loved but definitely respected (Egos are a fragile thing). Great interview!

George is in a very elite group of the best audio engineers working since the medium was invented. What a pleasure to get a sense of the man. Thank you!

I've known George on a first name basis for a while... mainly back in the 90s and early 2000s. Great guy... incredibly intelligent, and a blast to be around. This video was a treasure to watch. Thanks!

great interview! All engineers should learn from what Mr Massenburg said. Dynamic control instead of compression.

Would have loved to hear more about EWF. I still think they are the greatest mixed albums of all time. The detail is incredible. You feel the power, yet you can hear the percolating guitars and percussion so clearly. I guess it boils down to taste?

GML is certainly in the rarified air for influence. Assessment of LR is spot on. Talented, selfless for a famous person and loved to showcase the talent around her which only made her look better.

Before I can even watch I have to jump in and say Feats Don’t Fail Me Now (album) is one of the most fascinating mixes/engineering I still have ever heard. What I’d give to get under the hood of that! Massive feat in sonics😊

Thanks for the great interview! Same thoughts about compression. That's why I like dynamic compressors and eq's because they process sound only when it's needed (if you dial them right). Interesting that time resolution/perception of smaller sounds gets better as the sample rate gets higher. Makes sense though. More information. Also Interesting use of pitch shifting to make sounds more distinguishable (if I understood that one correctly). Never heard or thought about that.

You're right.. Dynamic control is better than compression. I used that since 1996 with a primitive 16 Bit DAW. :-)) Now it's easy with some new one DAW like REAPER or LOGIC Pro Before we have had always a movement of serveral fader settings during a mix. Regards from Germany.

Dear George, thank you so much for dusting off the sugar of some idealistic presumtion images of how it would be like hanging out in the Studio with Bands like EWF. At the end end of the day itˋs basically hard work in the Showbusiness industry and for the most part itˋ called Music Industry and not Music Friendship, right ? Cheers 🐺🙋🏻‍♂️🎈

Interesting. I always found the EWF live recordings very poorly mixed, with way too much highs and extremely muffled drum sounds. Turns out I've been wrong all this time. It's the other live music I listen to that is mixed badly. Silly me.

Bobby Owsinski, You should be ashamed of yourself for the terrible sound quality. I can hardly understand what is being said while it is about quality recordings/mixing and how bad DBX was. This sounds like very DBX.
