I truly believe you are correct on the shampoo and conditioner when repairing/rehabing hair, I have a sensitive scalp and I can tell you I felt the olaplex shampoo was drying to roots and scalp, and at times other shampoos are just to much moisture or oil and irritate, you need to find a shampoo that is best for you, not just because what of it is says it does. Im still on the hunt lol. months ago i tried the prolonger and it just did not agree with me, but maybe at that time it wasnt right. Might have to try it again......lol

Thanks so much for creating this amazing video. The break-down of steps in your C.A.R.E. system make it easy to follow and understand. Summer, you mention that you only do semi permanent color which has helped your hair health. I am wondering if I can use semi-permanent color to cover grays . . . or do I have to stick to permanent color? Also, do you get highlights at the same time that you do semi-permanent color? Would love a video that covers options for hair color that isn't too damaging. Thank you again for your excellent content and suggestions for all our hair questions! 🙂
@SummerBeautyc
@SummerBeautyc 6 ай бұрын
Semi permanent sort of blends the gray, it doesn't fully cover it. I've been slowly lightening my hair this year, so I only do my roots when I lighten it. The color I used matches my natural super well and I hardly have gray, so I don't do it very often. Last yr I think I put color on my roots maybe 3 times? Will add your video idea to my list.

Hi Summer. I had apocalypse hair damage starting at the end of summer last year. I'm not out of the haunted woods yet. I'm 53 and never had a problem. I gradually got my hair cut shorter to just below chin length. I miss my long hair but I like the bob look too! I started using Pureology leave in, a repair mask(K18) in addition to a moisture mask (Moroccan Oil) once a week about 6 months ago. It's helped tremendously. But I'm still not seeing length progress like I thought I would. I'm going to use your tips for the next couple months. It's such a practice in patience as I sometimes panic thinking I am missing something or using the wrong products. Your videos assure me I'm on the right track. I'm going to tweak a few things based on what I just learned. Thank you for sharing this specific topic on the levels of damage. it was very insightful and clear. Do you recommend ProLonger or Moroccan Oil Volume for thin/fine hair with damage? Also, what oil did you use prior to shampooing? I've been using the OGX weightless version. It seems like it stays on my hair after washing. It could be my shampoo or that I'm using too much.

Type 2A here. Curious how you keep a sleek style in the Florida humidity without weighing down your hair. Thanks to your styling tips, the main part of the mane stays put for three days, brushed through and put up in a soft tie at night, but the summer humidity adds "texture" that reduces shine.
@SummerBeautyc
@SummerBeautyc 6 ай бұрын
I'm so glad the styling tips have been helpful! The Florida humidity truly is bruuuuutal! If it's in your budget, a Brazilian Blowout is like pure magic! It does not take out your curl when done correctly and my clients with curls, some have found it helped them "bounce" more. I don't know that they really bounced more than just the humidity wasn't making them go as wild. Amika also has an actual just shine spray product which is nice for when the hair starts getting that dull look inbetween washes. You don't need a lot and hold the can far out from the hair!

In high humidity areas like Florida. Do you recommend something for Fine “moderate damaged” hair, other than what you recommended in the video? I lightly put oil on ends before hopping in the shower I clarify about every 2 weeks or as needed. And just started using bond repair after shampooing (to get the best results on clean hair so I’ve researched) Plan on doing it like you said & then color fanatic leave in. But I feel cause of the humidity or maybe just my hair type? If I don’t wash every 3-4 days my hair feels more frizzy and needing conditioned/“dry” 😂 instead of feeling oily. I don’t have an oily scalp but it’s not dry either 🤷‍♀️ it just takes me awhile before my hair ever will look greasy. It’s odd

I'm really excited to try your tip of applying treatments x6 shampoos in a row. I feel like that would make a difference for those of us who've tried a treatment with OK/promising results but didn't think it would be safe to continue them back to back. I guess overall doing continuous treatments will depend on how the hair reacts! Thank you 😊

When it's severely damaged I find the 5/6 in a row really helps to start the process. Just remember after those first 5/6 you don't have to apply every single shampoo. Dial it back to the suggested amount in the video.

My hair is totally fried from flat ironing. I haven't been using the protectant spray every time so my hair is breaking off like crazy, especially in the front. What do I do when most of my hair is fried? My hair has always been on the dry side, but now is ruined. I only wash my hair once a week so I don't dry my hair out more. I use a repairing mask weekly but it doesn't not help the fried hair. I will try your suggestions. I don't want to ruin my hair anymore.

Olaplex 3: I decided to strip all the color (dark brown) from my hair and let the natural white/grey grow. I used the Olaplex 3 twice weekly for 2 months before spending 2 full days at the salon getting it stripped and then weekly for 6 more months. Then I realized I had neglected my nape 😂 I ended up with a bristle brush back there. So when you say get it to every strand, you could not be more right. Live and learn

If cutting your ends is necessary, is it better to cut them first and do masks after or should you strengthen the strands with masks/treatments first for a while?
@SummerBeautyc
@SummerBeautyc 6 ай бұрын
It depends on how bad the ends are. You can sometimes repair but it does take time for your hair to heal, so depending on your patience and consistency cutting it might be easier. If you don't want to part with the length all at once, stay religious with the routine and maybe opt for small trims every 4/6 weeks to help.

During the last heatwave up here, I just air dried my hair. My routine was RedKen Volume Shampoo and Conditioner, followed by Pureology Leave In Conditioner (bit the bullet n got a small one, it works way better than the Kristin Ess Leave In). If I do blow dry my hair I will use the Moroccan Oil Mousse and I have used TRESemmé Heat Protectant Styling, well I just got the one You suggested, Pravanna, but have yet to try it. Again way too hot to use heat on my hair and air drying although not perfect at times works for my fine straight hair.

Where do you live? The Pureology, is truly amazing! Ouais I find to be comparable as far as performance, but it's lighter for my fine hair. You'll have to let me know how you like the product from Pravana! I also you that often after I've used a texture spray or paste, when I don't need/want to wash my hair but I want some softness added back to it.

I have the middle level of damage - new dryness and frizz with moderate breakage since May when I misunderstood a different stylist's KZbin instructions. I used heat protectant spray for the first time (had never used heat protection before in my 55 years), and I guess got too close and maybe my hair was damp from the spray. I was using a heat setting higher than usual to try to get my style to hold so I could go longer between washes and make my hair healthier. When I woke the next morning, my hair looked like a dandelion. I have been trying pretty much every product and tip referenced in this video, but still have some days when I see little broken pieces on the bathroom counter. The question I have is about K18. The instructions say to shampoo, apply the product, wait 4 minutes without touching it, then style your hair as usual. Are you following this method or rinsing out and conditioning after? Thanks for any clarification you can give!
@melissasprayberry5047

The masks you mention are K18, Olaplex 8, and Redken. Couple of questions… K 18 says it’s a leave in, and the Redken you have linked is not a mask. What products are the masks that you covered with plastic and then rinsed out? The ones for the most damaged hair. I’ve rewatched but can’t figure it out. Thank you .
@SummerBeautyc
@SummerBeautyc 6 ай бұрын
The Redken link is their heat protectant, you can find further Redken treatment products in my Amazon store front. For demo I used K18 and Olaplex 8. K18 is technically a leave in treatment, but I reached out directly to them and it can be used in shower and rinsed out as well, it just needs to sit the full 4 mins.

It always has but seems to have gotten worse since I turned 50, Help!

Color depositing conditioners should only be used sparingly as they are more drying on the hair. Their purpose is to refresh your color first, not repair/moisturize.

I think the damage to my hair started when I was using a round brush on wet hair as opposed to semi dry hair. The frizz was so bad and it is taking forever to correct! I do have coarse hair to begin with and I do use both the Pureology and Redken Thermal spray, my question is what amount do you recommend for medium length hair. I tried spraying it on directly and have recently started adding 6 pumps of pureology and 4-5 pumps of Redken to my hand and gently adding to my hair. I can't seem to get this right, sometimes it feels very coated and heavy and then there is times where I haven't added enough. What amounts do you recommend?
@SummerBeautyc
@SummerBeautyc 6 ай бұрын
Medium length you probably need about 8 to 10 sprays of the leave in. It's best to spray it onto your hair in sections by either lifting or clipping up(if you want to make sure you're really coating). Make sure you're holding the bottle out away from your head as spraying too close will cause product feel and also not allow the product to spray out onto more of your hair. The thermal spray can sometimes be hit or miss with how many sprays because you want to make sure your getting protection but you also don't want to over spray. I would not spray that into your hands and then work through the hair because that's going to make it feel much more heavy on the hair. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

No curling irons, and no flat irons) for 3 years now, doing a variety of gentle shampoos and conditioning masks and some oils and yet I still have problems with split ends. 😢 Eliminating the heat made it so my hair could finally grow, it's past my waist now, when before it was barely bra strap level, but I can't seem to eliminate the split ends..... Even olaplex 3 didn't help. Any recommendations? I Really don't want to cut off all the length, but I can't seem to get the split ends under control. My hair is slightly more on the fine end, and naturally curly, and seems to be thirsty more often than not. For protection I do braids or top knot at night, satin pillow, the works.
