Now THAT is a beautiful sweet potato harvest!! I’ve never been very successful. We have very short mild summers here. We put up a new large greenhouse so I think I’ll give it another try. Thanks for the tips!! 💛

Great tips! I will definitely have to try this next year. I’ve done sweet potatoes once but put them in too late and they were so tiny. Any tips to keep worms/grubs from getting them?

Thanks for watching. We have had trouble with moles eating ours. Since we amended the soil with the correct nutrients we have not had an issue. I will have to share on soil health soon.

Do you have a visual of the beginning process and the tools you used? What is a sip for instance?

I do not but will do one in the spring/summer when we plant. A slip is grown from a sweet potato as the plant for next seasons crop. You can grow them or but them from local greenhouses.

Do you amend the soil with anything besides homemade compost?

We do use ash, manure, wood chips, and a small amount of sea salt at the very beginning of spring. I will have to share more on soil soon. that is the starting point for thriving vegetables with little pests and disease.

I grew mine in a 24" deep raised bed with loose, 'homemade' compost & had little runt sweet potatoes. 🤷🏼‍♀️ We had the hottest summer on record and are still in drought conditions, so that may have contributed to their lack of vigor. The vines themselves were a massive jungle; would pruning the tips of the vines help with the growth of the tuber underground?

Thanks for watching. Yes Pruning may help them. More nutrients will go into the tuber rather than the vines. We keep ours trimmed back so they stay in the row.
