Everyone hating on Netero at the end of the Chimera Ant arc, but I think what Netero did was the very embodiment of selflessness. Netero wanted to not have to kill Meruem, but he had to since Meruem wouldn’t spare the other humans. Although, Meruem even offered to spare Netero, Netero couldn’t accept because it would mean the death of humanity itself. He sacrificed his life to defeat Meruem. I know we learn later that Meruem actually is super cool, and possess more humanity that some of the other characters in the series, but it doesn’t change the fact the Netero thought Meruem would end humanity as a whole

If it wasnt for this channel I dont think I would have ever sat down and watched hunterxhunter, seeing all the videos you uploaded about sparked my interest into finally starting it. When I first started watching I didnt really see the appeal the hunter exam was pretty standard shonen story arc at first however the episode in which the characters had to retrieve the spider eagle eggs and Gon just watched people fall to their deaths and it didnt phase him one bit, made me realize this kid is different, something is off about him and it intrigued me so I had to keep watching. Thank goodness I did because after the final stages of the hunter exam I was hooked the many twist and turns were so entertaining. I would try to guess where the story was going given my knowledge of how most shonen anime were structured however each time I thought I knew what was coming I got a curve ball that could have never anticipate coming my way. The subversion of expectations were masterful done, and hunterxhunter is now one of favorite series. All thanks to you and your channel! Thank you keep up the good work!

I disagree that Kurapika failed to get an info from Uvogin about the other members. Why? When Uvogin said that he is the strongest among the troupe he realized too late that he could not break the chains. Kurapika also realized that his chains could never be broken by any of Uvogin's comrades. That info is vital in his pursuit for revenge.

Reading Nietzsche has helped me understand the appeal of HxH to a larger extent. The characters in HxH do not subscribe to the dichotomy of good and evil, but rather create their own values. Each character decides what is good for them: for Gon it is finding his father, for Kurapika it is finding his clan’s eyes, for Netero it is finding a strong opponent, etc. This is consistent with Nietzsche because Nietzsche was highly critical of the good/evil dichotomy, ultimately arguing that it came from everyday, ordinary, normal people trying to get revenge on their superiors. People embody ideas like meekness and equality because they want to feel safe, rather than developing their own talents. Instead, Nietzsche wanted people to, quite literally, develop their own morality. This is a hard concept to understand, but I think HxH gives an example of what it would look like.

In regards to the risks that Togashi takes, he also tempers them with incredible wisdom in implementation. Using Gon's arc as an example, while the moment of him making that decision to give up everything for unfulfilling revenge was a surprise for many reasons, it never felt like it came out of left field. He showed us more than once how stubborn and petty Gon can be. We spent plenty of time watching him stewing on what he wanted to do. We watched him start to shut people out as the moment drew near. And we knew how Nen worked and what it's capable of. Whether or not it was planned from the start, everything about Gon's transformation was set up. Leading to a wonderful moment after the initial shock of what happened where, without being told, we understood EXACTLY what he did, and it made perfect sense. As do so many of the other big changes. These shifts in style or focus or genre of the story never not make sense.

i love how togashi inverts and subverts a lot of common themes and not just for a cheap shock value you brush off by the next episode but for brilliant plot purposes. Keeps the story unpredictable and fresh. One thing I found interesting was how in "usual" hero and shonen type stories, the older generation either on or off screen is shown to have some significant flaws and is decaying or has already crumbled leaving the next generation tasked to fix the mess left behind. But here, we see the young protagonist Gon crash and burn while his father seems to be rising like a phoenix from those plot ashes in the ongoing story arc. almost like Gon's journey to find his father was just a prelude to the Story of Ging lol.

I think a big part of this is that Togashi, specifically with HxH, has kind of proven himself. He's stuck the landing on a lot of crazy bullshit it would've been entirely possible to fuck up and done amazing work in the process. You KNOW when more HxH comes out that it's gonna be good. You know it's going to be unique and interesting, and surprising if appropriate. That unpredictability mixed with that assurance of quality is a heady mixture, and it earns Togashi a lot of slack on the hiatuses. I do wish HxH would just...update like a webcomic or something. I'd take consistent updates months apart over these years of uncertainty. I get that he has health issues, not to mention a family, but there's still so much story left in this world. If I were writing HunterXhunter I would do 1 of 2 things. Set up: Leorio contacts Kilua about the Spiders and Kurapika being on the Whale. Kilua has family that are Spiders. Not to mention Hisoka aiming to kill them all. Him and Gon go to the Whale, there are several ways available and they aren't that important really. Alluka/Nanika could even join them preferably, which would be relevant to the Dark Continent arc. Leorio could hire Kilua/Gon which would allow for their presence. If Gon is dropped simply because his child-self goal of finding his father is over what does that say? He needs to grow, which he does if only by going to help his friend. I suspect he will gain a new greater goal. 1) Gon doesn't get back Nen. But he was, potentially, healed by a Calamity. It was shown, possibly, that Calamities can be parasitic/symbiotic. Gon would be a great way to implement the expansion into Calamaties, clearly they aren't all explicitly malevolent, in theory. If they bring Alluka/Nanika she could instead be the Calamity aspect and instead point 2, preferred, would occur instead. 2) What would happen if Kurapika utilized his Steal Chain on Gon? I think this would be interesting. (It would also be interesting if Hisoka mentioned it just so he could fight Gon in the future.) He has used Nen before but he is under a unique situation of being unable to use it again...however as you mentioned, his Dad said he could sense his Nen there. I like the idea of Kurapika stealing not the jajanken but instead the metamorphosis to kill the 4th prince and recover the eyes. If he and Hisoka team up against the Spiders again what does Kurapika even need Nen for any longer? He has already gambled his life and his strongest Nen ability on taking down the Spiders as it is. Not to say he would lose Nen if not his life, but Emporer Time has already drained a substantial amount of his life. His clan hasn't been explored that in depth either, so removing him from the story here to expand on that or to learn his clan is related to the Dark Continent would be an interesting narrative. Anyways this could simply enable Gon, whether Kurapika was able to steal an ability or not, to either reawaken Nen in him allowing for a soft reboot of Gon's Nen ability (he has changed a lot over the series and his time without Nen too I'd imagine) or just seeing Kurapika could steal his ability means it is in fact there for him to access. Opening his eyes to the aura his father said he couldn't see. In either event if Gon had to relearn Nen...not relearn but maybe reinterpret Nen, only this time under the tutelage of his father...changing from just an uncle into a real father, wouldn't this actually be the more satisfying arc for Gon? Enhancers are the least likely to become specialists. The shonen protagonist is designed to climb the highest mountains.

The secret to hunter x hunter lies in how closely togashi was able to emulate the reality of the real world in his hunter x hunter world. In the real world, things are complicated, you cannot put any person into a box, and you cannot be fully certain of any outcome because there are always multiple people/forces at play with varying motivations that might or might not conflict. This describes the world of hunter x hunter “hunters are selfish creatures who are looking for something” ie PURPOSE. Sound familiar to us? The reason people praise him so much for excellent character development is because he understands the VAST spectrum of human nature and psychology better than any other mangaka, which is why other anime seem cliched and easy to sum up compared to this Picasso. Simply put, we are so drawn to this show because it’s the closest and coolest picture of real life we’ve ever seen animated.

Don't know if you have already done that but I would love to see a video about how Yu Yu Hakusho influenced Hunter X Hunter since both are Togashi's mangas. For example to me Spiritual Power is like Nen without giving any explanation about how it works, you have enhancement with Toguro, manipulation with Rinku and his yo yos, emission with Yusuke's Reigun and many more, conjuration with Crow's bombs, transmutacion with Zeru's fire, it only misses Specialitzacion. And not only that, the 4 main characters are very similar, and many other little details. I'm rewatching it and it's very interesting to see how much of it Togashi used for Hunter. Also I would like to give an unpopular opinion maybe. Togashi was very brave with Gon's journey until the end of Chimeras ant's arc, but after that all I could see was him undoing all his work to easily. Gon was saved by Killua and a very convenient character that no one ever knew, once Gon was awake again I could not feel any change in his character after all he did and went through, he was the same happy kid, and he will for sure recover his Nen sometime. So, seeing how he is not important in this arc, would have not been better if Gon still was fucked up and Killua decided to go to the Dark Continent with hope to find some way to help him? Don't know I feel like all that amazing ending of the arc was for nothing. Sometimes Togashi is to brave and after that he decides to go backwards. Manga Spoiler: That happened too in the fight between Hisoka and Chrollo, if he decides to do a Deathmatch then be brave and don't come up with some bullshit to make it feel pointless. Those 2 points are my major Hunter X Hunter problems, otherwise it would be perfect, slow but perfect xD

exactly, I actually prefer the 99 version though but the reboot deffo made a difference in the level of reach HxH has had. Need a D.Gray-Man reboot.

Well, Hunter X Hunter explained why and how you would worship a nuke. It's the great equalizer. Rich/poor, strong/weak, healthy/sick. Being within a few kilometres of one when it blows we are all the same. Not even Meruem could survive it. With his royal guard he could only prolong his life for a few minutes at best. Nice way to prevent powerlevel escalation without cheapening it. We lost an important character with Netero. Even without that there are usually plenty reasons for not wanting to use a nuke. They even made a point about them by getting them far way from anyone first. Grim really life fact: The inventor of TNT thought it would have the effect the nuclear bomb later had. Rendering big scale war pointless and ending it that way.

I think I need to come to terms with the fact that Kurapika is probably my favorite protagonist. Yorknew arc was my all-time favorite easily and now the Succession War is my second favorite and they both have Kurapika as the main Protag

The amazing power system that goes as fat as to describe how Geniuses like Lionel Messi, Albert Einstein, Rodger Federer, Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, Togashi himself are born... An how you can realistically use nen to explain such is mind blowing... And let's not get started on the amazing story telly that doesn't actually focus solely on the main character (who isn't even safe from plot amour) .. Heck

Netero serves as the characteristic of human nature. He was a good and model hunter, the pinnacle of one's craft (in his case, martial arts), then Togashi put him as the last line between human extinction, he even put a bomb on Netero as insurance. Those are qualities that makes human nature. On one part it was beautiful, then it can turn around suddenly 180degrees. Just like human life, we aim to be a law abiding citizen, honing our craft, one day may live a prosperous life then suddenly you're at the bottom, and for us to climb back, sacrifices are needed, just like the case of Netero.

Watching anime in during the early 90's in North America.... it's normal to watch anime that repeats, restarts, shown out of order, etc.... "hiatus" was a fact of life.
@hansnase3644 жыл бұрын
I think at this point the hiatuses in conjunction with the fanbase still going strong, has actually helped HxH grow in popularity somewhat by mystifying the series in the eyes of someone who has never read/seen it. It isn't just some shounen manga now, it is one of those rare series that is constantly talked about despite there being no new content, and IF there is new content everyone is so excited for it that even some non-fans can't help but be curious. For people not aware of Togashi's health condition it might even gain the notoriety that every chapter is so good that the mangaka needs months for every single one (kind of like a Berserk-situation).

It also really helps if you get into the series almost a decade after the newest anime started lol, I got to go from Whale Island all the way to the top of the World Tree without interruption lol

This could be a series. Break down everything that made HxH successful, and go through its history. Maybe even a series/video about Togashi himself?? "Meet the Creator"? talk about his life, and how people shouldn't get upset about hiatuses when he has very real health problems to deal with.

it is damn good show it probably not the most popular shonen manga because of the hiatuses and the heavy dialogue in the manga but the 2011 anime was and absolute masterpiece to me it is the greatest shonen anime ever in terms of overall story that is big deal because i am leaving out a lot of the top stop and that is HARD, DBZ, Naruto, one piece, among others
