great detail thanks Eric. Everything comes back to the left hip in downswing. I struggled for many years with HOW to do this move until recently through much trial and error, i FOUND the KEY(FOR ME). As I'm completing the backswing i concentrate on moving my left groin. If i don't feel slight discomfort in the groin i know I've failed. Would love your comments Eric

5:40 wow, this is was a eureka moment for me right here. The feel to rotate your femur / knee out to initiate the swing really helped a ton! This is what separates you from other online instructors - you really know how to explain how to 'dynamically' get there where others just tell you to get there which is a huge difference. Thank you so much! Best online instructor out there right now :)

This is finally what helped my cast. I received the advice to fire my hips which still resulted in my cast because I was still firing my arms and hitting at the ball. I saw Justin Roses's drill of moving the lower body and keeping that top-of-backswing feel and man did it work. I'm finally not hitting at the ball and I have correct sequencing. I don't even have to think about my arms in my swing because my body does the work

Wonderful clear complete explanation of this extremely tricky part of the the golf downswing. So much talk about speeding up the arms from the top by many instructors. Or as Ledbetter taught back in the day the shifting and turning of hips will do everything includingsquaringtheclubface. Which couldnt be further from the truth. and wrecked my game for a lifetime. Thanks Thanks Thanks for this knowledge and continued commitment to excellence.

Hi Eric, great video - very clear, concise and in a language that is easy to understand! You always have such excellent balance during your follow through. I notice you seem to post on the outside of your lead heel. Is that the goal - to rotate through the shot and have your weight on the outside heel of your lead (left) foot? Thanks, Russ
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Russ! Most golfers, if they have good rotation, will actually have their weight/pressure in the feet be on the outside/front part of the lead foot at the finish position as you mentioned (this is not a requirement...but just a piece)

REALLY great explanation. Covers just about everything. People might also need to know where the arms need to be just before this, as if the arms are too high.. Well.. You know...lol. Also my question is.. Is this also what checks the arms a bit so you can release? I've got 25 years of dragging the handle to the left side of the body and I'm realizing it's more the opposite... It's releasing on the right side of the body and the pivot brings it around.. Hands on the left side of an optical illusion from a face on view while open. This is way too long. "Checking the arms so the wrists can release."?...lol

Wow this is really helping my with the timing. I’ve been able to get to most of the checkpoints but feel like i was scooping as I feel like I should be getting at least an extra 20 yards on my Irons. It was making me off balance at the end of swing. This has me swinging down steeper and coming up high at the end. Another problem I have is that the swing I produce at home I can’t replicate at the range? I think due to all of the people and the mats I get tense and try and hit as hard as I can every shot. Anyone ever have this issue and what did you do about it?
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 5 ай бұрын
Glad this one helped! Always practice with a ball...exaggerate 100x more than you think...go as slow and short as you need to perform the motion perfectly...always film yourself and check video after each swing and adjust if needed. Those principles should get you started on the right track!

Great video Eric. I have a question about it. I’m this video you talked about hips going down and around and in another video you talked about hips going forward and trying to get the lead hip up against an alignment rod. Can you please clarify this for me because hip rotation is one of the biggest things I need to work on. Thanks!
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hey! Yep....they are all the same thing. All we are saying here is to keep the lead side hip down in the first part of the downswing. Hey Eric, This might get a little long winded and I apologize. Have been a fan of your videos for quite a while, you're very well spoken, easy to understand, and give concepts that translate to our real world bodies lol Anyway, A little while back I watched (I *think*) one of your videos with I believe a guest instructor, where you talked some more about the hips and legs. I vividly remember a bit about the right leg straightening in the backswing to enable the hip turn, and in conjunction, enable more shoulder turn. And of course the corresponding straightening of the left leg as you come around into the finish. I found a solo video of yours about the hips, but this one with the guest instructor really stuck. Am I remembering this video correctly? If so, can you point me to it please? Keep up the wonderful work, I also really enjoyed your videos with Kevin Roman, about the different backswings, and the releases. As a tall guy, I definitely have an upright swing, and putting that twist type of release into play rather than trying to do something specific with my forearms or rolling things, has made such a difference in my ball striking in the ball literally jumping off the club face (all clubs throughout the bag). Again apologies for the length of this comment.. 🙂

Long ago I rolled the club open going back, closed it coming down and played with my hands high like De Chambeau. Now I play from a more conventional position and only try to pull the butt of the club through an arc with no roll of the arms or attempt to either block or assist the uncocking of the wrists. My question to anyone who plays this way is, do you have an aiming point for where you start the butt and if so where is it?

Hey! Are you asking for at setup, backswing or downswing?
@Larry-d3i

@@CogornoGolf Downswing. I feel I need to start the butt of the club down at some target to avoid toe or heel hits and fat or thin hits. For instance, if I am hitting toe shots I try to pull the butt more to the far side of the ball. Are you focused on the butt and hand path coming down or the club head, and why?

unfortunately I don't think a discussion here is going to fully cover what you are looking for/need. I am personally not focused on any of that to start down. I would really need to see your swing on video to see what you are currently doing to say what YOU need to do and feel. Send swings to www.cogornogolf.com so we can give you correct answers

Two things: first, this should be called the "Helicopter Drill" (copyright!) with the rods on either side of you. Second, you lost me (in the beginning) about dropping the lead hip and the trail shoulder at the same time. The more I drop my trail shoulder, the higher my lead hip gets. I'm supposed to be dropping the lead hip more around/back, right?

I think Eric was referring to coming into the downswing, keeping that shoulder down, while slightly increasing the knee bend in the left leg to keep the hip down, rather than popping up. That's how I took that..

Hey Greg! I hear ya....thats the move you need to learn then :) Just stand up and practice it like I demonstrated....you should be able to lower left hip (pelvic tilt) and right shoulder (side bend) at same time!

yes it does. I think this move is for transition only.

Hey Jim! Yes the important part is the TIMING and differentiating the HIPS from SHOULDERS. The DOWN part for the hip is just for the start of the downswing, the BEGINNING part, EARLY transition.....call it the first 1/2 of the downswing BEFORE it goes up....

For amateurs, the downswing speed is calculated by multiplying the handicap by the speed of the backswing. For example: 20 handicap and 30 mph backswing- downswing = 600 mph. Slow down!!!🤣🤣🤣⛳️⛳️⛳️
