there is a seal between the front and back of the airbrush that requires the needle. I don't think you should completely remove the needle with liquids still in the front of the airbrush because it can allow those liquids into the back where it is much more difficult to clean, especially if it makes it all the way back to the air valve.

I agree. It is also why the blow back technique can lead to paint flowing into the back of the airbrush.

Excellent- very useful tips which should ease my painful entry into airbrushing 😢. Nice straightforward video too - no frills, just a demonstration of the advice. Thank you.

I always watch these things looking for some secret I've missed. The never let your cup run dry, and never flush forwards points are great. I'll bear those in mind!

Thanks mate, I hope they help. Tabletop Minions has a vid about his airbrushing and he goes further, he just leaves his airbrush in a jar of water so it doesn't dry out at all. The flush forward thing, I've seen a couple times a bit of dry paint from the cup dislodge and then get stuck in the nozzle when I flush out the tip so I don't do that anymore. I think I got that tip from Vince Venturella

I pretty much use the same method. I'm lazy and haven't had to break down my airbrushes for months at a time (other than pulling the needle). The only thing I do differently is I only backflow the air when cleaning, not to mix paint. If the barrel is already full of thinner, putting in the correct ratio of paint/thinner afterwards - a quick mix with a brush will mix properly, and then a blast on a paper towel will push out the pure thinners in the front and now you're loaded for bear. I also don't bother buying branded airbrush cleaners. Distilled water first to dilute and dump the remaining paint in the cup (with a backflow) then just follow up with 90%+ Isopropyl alcohol

Youre a life saver, I have been cleaning my airbrush by shooting cleaner through it. I will always pour out the cup. Thanks!

Wow. Thorough and well presented. Perfect for a newbie like me. You even showed a flow diagram. That's rare. I will definitely check out your other stuff. Thank you ✌

Yay! You're back with a great vid! The tip that I've discovered is that the old school advice of cleaning with Windex works great for SOME paint, but others it will turn into a paste and make you have a bad time. I think it's primarily due to the pigment (whites are the worst), but I don't use Windex as my primary cleaner anymore.

Thanks man, its good to be back. I've found whites to be really difficult as well, they are so sticky and get wrapped around the needle for me. I heard that Pro Acryl titanium white is the best around but I haven't tried it yet. My cleaner doesn't get everything out either, I'm a bit nervous about using something a bit stronger though

I'll try this when I try out airbrushing for the 1st time. Just recently got a cheap airbrush but haven't had the opportunity to give it a go yet. Thanks for the tip, Dave. Love the vids.

Nice to be able to leave comments on your videos again; PC went down on me a few months back, and I had to revert to the 'ol PS3 to watch YT. Now that I can finally afford a new rig, I find I have to re-learn YT from scratch. Poor me, right? Stellar work as usual, though- no one else's videos bring a smile to my face quite like yours. Eternal thanks for that, and I hope the day finds you well. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Thanks man, yeah the plunger part of my airbrush is getting a bit sticky. I think I'll need to soak mine and pull it apart to get that sorted out. Maybe I'll just upgrade though... I've got a hankering for a fancier airbrush

I used to try to mix in the airbrush bowl, but I personally have better success mixing in a small plastic cup. I can more easily tell how thick or thin my paint is. I use some original Createx paints and some are very thick (think gravy) and need about 1/3rd reducer. I also add in Createx 4050 which is a flow improver. Doing this makes the paint flow better, adhere better, and makes cleanup much easier and just about eliminates dry tip If you keep a small bowl of a 50/50 mix of water and alcohol with a small sponge in it on your table top you can dip the end of your airbrush against the sponge to easily clear dry tip should it occur Createx Restorer will pretty easily and quickly clean out dried paint. Disassemble your airbrush to soak the parts. You should not blow it through the airbrush

Isnt blowback also the cause of clogging?

I have a jar with boiled water next to me, and after a few sprays I pull out my side cup, clean it with the hot water, also put some hot water in my brush, and use a brush to clean the nozzle top, and spray some hot water, and then I am ready for a next round of colorspraying.

How can I prevent clogging internally with the airbrush? It's painting fine today and the next day it always clog inside for me, even worse if it was after a priming session
