The Metro connectivity is sooo nice, but a main ISSUE is that Pine Hills and Autumn District (two districts which are very close to each other) are connected only by a metro line which takes a huge loop to go between those 2. I'd rather add a tram line to the main road so that they get connected or just change the directionality of the metro station in Autumn District so that the metro line looks like Eggsy - Cherry - Pine - Autumn, so that it makes more sense tbh Edit: A nice alernative would be to make the like look like Cherry - Autumn - Pine - Eggsy, so that all these 3 neighbouring areas are directly connected and then go to Cherry. And for Eggsy - Cherry connection, you could add a tram line too, if it's really needed. Anyways, it's nice to see you back Biffa :D

Biffa, this is a very rushed build. The metro works okay, but should realistically be a loop with a counterclockwise line. The tram along the coast there should continue down the 6 lane road, check out some of the 6 lane boulevards with dedicated trams lanes instead of giving up a car lane. You should take some of the roads in these areas, especially connecting the two, and add bike lanes to reduce traffic. Finally one thing I’d recommend is busses, you didn’t build any in the new area, having busses that terminate at a metro is great because cims will happily make a transfer to get around the city. It also gives a central point for cims to transfer to other bus services. Just a compact bus station would be enough, 4 lines going around the area to give people even more options than driving

In the Autumn district at about 33:15 there is a road that runs diagonally toward the new intersection that leads to the new highway connection. I seams like the other end of that road would be a neat place for some kind of tall attraction or important building. You'd be able to see straight up that road and it'd be a nice vista entering the area.
@JoyBuildsCities Жыл бұрын
I think some of the lovely new roads with trees and bike lanes could be a nice addition to the two new neighborhoods. Also a local bus could help move people around, especially in-between the two metro stops and the new university. Glad your feeling better.

I thought this was supposed to be a slow series where we focus on detail. This felt rushed and just thrown together. New area has no character. Also I feel like mass transit, such as metros, needs to be pre planned before starting a city so you're not scrambling to put one in once traffic gets bad.

Adding underground metro stations too close to the shore is problematic... leaving the station, the track needs to descend *very* steeply to pass under the water. The mod will automatically create the connection, but it will connect the heights of the stations, which is much higher than the bottom of the harbour.

@edwardmiessner6502 Жыл бұрын
Nice build, but I think the metro configuration I don't think is conducive to connectivity between Eggleston, Pine Hills, and the Autumn District. Furthermore, I think the new northern addition to the Autumn District yet to be developed will need its own subway stop. So I'm thinking is convert the Autumn District, Pine Hills, and Eggleston metro stations to cross stations and run a new subway along the western shore, to wit: Eggleston > Pine Hills > Autumn District > Autumn District North. This would actually improve not only connectivity on the western shore but also across the strait to the Cherry District metro station. Also I'm hoping you'll continue the Autumn District grid so the backstory is that the gridiron was there first and then the state highway department built the freeway and its approach road through the grid to spur development or redevelopment of the Autumn District.

what's rough about following the natural gameplay is the population restrictions to get more space. The awful part though is the fatigue and ruined hearing. I find myself totally wiped out and falling asleep in my chair. Practicing and playing my piano is difficult too due to the lack of bass with everything sounding as if I turned the bass down on the hi-fi. Anyway, back to Cities. 🙂 There's a nice set of roads you might be interested in by Urbanist. He has some neighbourhood streets and some suburban streets that may work for what you are doing. Running the metro out into the country isn't much different than what the Metropolitan did when it ran a line out to Chesham. It's too bad we don't have small tank locomotives to pull the trains.

Again saying that I think the area you now started has high density would have (and possibly still could be) been the perfect place to build your main airport of biffalo county, as its centrally localted on the map and possibly the biggest piece of already flat land. Even after this episode, I think there might still be enough open space left to accomodate an airport (when looking at the area with video stopped at 35:17 there could easily one runway along the coastline paralell to the existing road and a second runway going from the new interchange diagonal towards the river delta).

6 things I would have done differently: A: The tram lane that you dedicated at 1:50 will now be nice and empty, so it would be a good shortcut for emergency vehicles; and banning buses makes no sense either. I would even try out allowing taxis and city service vehicles on there, if it works. The biggest problem that I see is them not being covered by the tram cycle in the traffic lights at 1:57 and thus blocking the tram from turning. (Do your trams even turn left there? If yes, then maybe they shouldn't. If no, then why are they stopped at that light?) B: Walking paths between pine district and the forestry. C: Turn the metro line through Pine District and Autumn District into a loop. (More capacity since passengers can ride as short a distance as possible, taking up space in the vehicles for a shorter time.) And once you want to extend that line, you can just break one section of the loop and take both ends in 2 new directions. I'm not 100% sure on this, because it would also be fixed by D (in conjunction with B). D: Feeder bus/tram line(s) through the new districts, focused on getting people to the 2 metro stops. Which would also allow people who don't want to walk to move within that pair of districts easily. E: At 0:32 you mentioned that one side of the highway which has no slip lanes. I would try to try to connect from the outside direction to the end of the road that is running parallel to the highway. Even a level crossing with the rail tracks should be perfectly fine. F: A second bridge over the straight/river between the financial district and the Autumn District. (Thanks to 정훈이의 생물 for reminding me of that idea.) For urbanism bonus points you could make it tram and bus only. I would even think about combining points F, D and A: I'd build a tram-only bridge from the tram line in Washington - through Autumn District - and connecting to the south end of the existing tram-enabled bridge in Pine District. And then you could use that to run the clockwise direction on that new loop as a local line - i.e. circling only around that loop (which won't need to make left hand turns at the junction at 1:57, or the junction at the Pine District end of the bridge). And the counter-clockwise tram line on that loop can have branch-offs into the oldest part of town and the industrial waterfront/forestry area.

Careful about expanding near the forestry area. The workers barracks for forestry are stupidly big, and you need quite a lot to get a nice efficiency bonus. Plus to make it look nice you need to add in a extra features if you don't want to just lump them together in a corner. Then the highway junction at 0:42 can be deleted and you can use move it mod to move the highway up a bit and put in a small turbine which will give you highway access down into that built up area, and another highway exit up to the north for later.

When you grid that tightly, you should turn off the zoning along the roads going in one of the two directions, which will give you bigger blocks only along roads in one direction, because all it does is make things messy when you have zoning going in both directions. You don't lose anything - in fact, you should gain space. In other words, I would have had no zoning along the roads running *perpendicular* to the coast. You just get neater, more uniform looking building that way. cheers

A couple of comments to the recent build. First, why do you always go for 8x8 blocks when you make a grid? You don't need that many roads in the neighborhood, so you are wasting space that could be used for houses and other things. Try to make rectangular blocks instead and you'll even save money on roads! Second, you could improve the HW access by rebuilding the junction by the bridge. It shouldn't be too hard to make a junction that gives everyone a chance to get both up and down to the city in both directions. Remember that you do have a corner of the land on the other side of the junction from the bridge, and it's possible to bring traffic up to the level of the HW by having a spiraling tunnel. Those are fairly common here in Norway and they work well. Finally, you should rework the subway that goes to Eggleston. As it is you need to go in a huge loop in order to get between the two new high density neighborhoods. It would be much better if you made it into a loop with a line in each direction. You could then also move and turn the station at the fish market, so that you don't have a line that goes steeply down into the sea.
