My mother actually grows iris outside her house. and they look exactly like this, minus the lipstick. the green legs are meant to be the stalk/stem, and the purple is meant to be the blooming flower, which is why it takes that shape. The noise markings on the purple are actually meant to resemble the yellow markings/bands on the white part of an iris. I assume the lipstick is there because Ayano is also clearly wearing lipstick, though hers is more of a purple color than the red as seen on the noise form. TL;DR Iris cantus looks like that because it's literally just an iris flower

But for some reason TWEWY fans, the people dedicated and desperate for more, DON'T show enough support? The hell do they want from us at this point.

I want to point out that Shoka’s character design is a favorite among Nomura’s character designs, incredibly similar girls have shown up in a couple places. Gentiana from FFXV, Gaia from FFXIV, and Skuld from Kingdom Hearts: Union X all have incredibly similar designs.

9:20 Beat being mistaken for Neku and sending the UG into turmoil despite not even trying is still one of the funnest things in the game. Also, Rindo was originally being translated into Lindo? Wonder if Rindo shares a name in Japanese with Lindo from God Eater. 10:45 Lastly, early concept work using assets from the first game might not mean those people were intended for the final version. They could have just been placeholders so the devs could figure out how things work while they wait for the actual assets and character to get finalized by the writers and artists.

Great video as usual! I really appreciate the whole section going into the "If fans show their support" comment. Between that and the "disappointing sales", I've seen a lot of pessimism and even misconstruing of that statement as "making the fans do Square's job (advertising)." Which makes me sad, cause it feels more like an obvious statement instead of a backhanded comment to me. And the connections between the interviews are interesting as well... time will tell, of course, but it definitely seems like TWEWY isn't as dead-in-the-water as everyone seems to think.

I still feel like not having a Tetris 99 theme/event for NEO is the biggest missed opportunity in terms of advertisement. I know it sounds miniscule but T99 has a huge player base and the themes always come with a few songs from the game which is the best advertising you can do for NEO (no offense, it's just a kickass OST). If I knew nothing of the game but heard Your Ocean, bird in the hand and World is Yours playing in the background during my Tetris game, I'd at least look into the game.

To be fair, almost every game lives on fan support, specifically smaller niche games. Hopefully we get more twewy, because the devs seem passionate about it and hopefully is better than Neo.

Well square instead of promoting the game did spend a bunch of time shoving marvel something down our throats. Hell nintendo did a better job in showing neo twewy on their channel then square did. And i bet if the game got only 10% of what kh3 budget was it would have been even better but yeah it is what it is.

8:35 but it's not a retcon though. In TWEWY 1 it was already heavily implied that the Composer was linked to Angels, NEO just went and confirmed it saying they ARE Angels. The Room of Reckoning has two pillars one of an Angel and one being the Grim Reaper, showing how the Composer is an Angel of Death. Joshua unleashing a BIT more of his true power with energy beams shows the beams taking on the form of Angels, and Joshua having an Angel feather to recreate the Boss Rush in Another Day all points to the Composer being an Angel who's toned down their power level to be in the UG

Not to mention even thought it’s non canon to TWEWY itself, Joshua did sprout Angel wings in his appearance in KH3D, which shared many people who worked on both series with. I’m pretty sure they put that detail in as a reference to the fact that the Composers have ties to angels.

Also, I don't get where people keep getting the idea that Neku and Sho had to play another Reapers' Game together. Coco revived Sho to be Neku's partner to help find a way to save Tsugumi and investigate if what happened to Shinjuku could be prevented from happening to other cities

Because, depending on where you get your info, Neku was stuck between reality and unreality between the two games. Coco transported him to Shinjuku with the intent of having him play in their Reaper Game to beat Shiba, but when he arrived the erasure happened and he got caught between existence and nonexistence until he was pulled out. So, yeah. She was sending Sho to help him in Shinjuku when the place literally melted down before he could arrive. This is all backed up on the Wiki.

Honestly, i felt it was disjointed. The gameplay itself was pretty good, even if there’s room for improvement, but the story was such an unenjoyable mess for me. Almost nothing of worth happens during the first week, the themes go nowhere and new characters keep being introduced down to the very last moment. I personally hated almost every second of it and it was super long, which made it even worse to me. The original might be my favourite game, so honestly this was pretty disappointing to me.

I never felt emotionally envolved with rindo as i did with neku and, while the themes are pretty clear, I don’t think they are executed well, being ham fisted instead of naturally progressing like neku’s. I just personally found the game really bad in terms of story, but glad you enjoyed it.

@@philatio1744 I think the difference was it was focused on a more group dynamic in comparison to it being character focused on Neku. That and one of the Reaper Reports confirm that how the story progressed was messed up because of how the Shinjiku Reapers ran the game in comparison to the Shibuya Reapers(which Neku and Co. Killed with Uzuki and Kariya being the only survivors) as well as Kubo and his version of Taboo Noise messing up a lot. I enjoyed the story a lot even if the beginning was a little slow. I mean the OG was like that too with Neku being an insufferable asshole at the start (which Ill admit did add spice to scenes like him almost killing Shiki but does get a little tiresome)

There are very few games that I actually play to completion, generally I pick up games play about half way through then start a new game, NEO: TWEWY is one of the few games in this last 5 years that it has been like "yes I want to play this to completion" and actually do it, It was long enough to feel satisfying while not lasting so long with filler to outstay its welcome. Hopefully they keep this series alive because while I only beat about half of the original due to trying to use the touchscreen and buttons at the same time was interesting but cumbersome because it is like trying to pat your head while rubbing your stomach. This game took most the good things from the first game while making combat feel a little less clunky. Really the only thing I miss from the first game that didn't make it into this one was how the pins could evolve different ways depending on if you got the xp via fighting or the xp via the idle xp gain while you are not playing, which made getting all the pins without a walkthrough a lot more challenging rather then just "turn the difficulty up for rarer pins". Sure there were times where I went "oh shoot I left my combat pins installed when I went to bed now I have to restart the evolution process all over again, but it made it more of a treasure hunt if you wanted to collect them all without looking it up.

The story’s pacing is so awful to me, and i considered dropping the game multiple times, but kept playing due to my love of the original game and the promise that “it gets better near the end”. It’s one of the most disappointing games in the last five years to me, as i found everything to di with the story eye rolling-ly awful, and it sort of pains me to say that.

11:26 that looks more like Shoka than like Sho. Her legs are showing and her pose isn't very Sho-like. Additionally, her hair is black, and it doesn't look like she's wearing a hood. In all honesty, it doesn't even look like Shoka that much, but it looks more like her than any of the other suspects. In truth, I'd say the mystery figure, shocker jocker, looks an awful lot, and I mean an awful lot, like Eiru. Maybe he was originally planned to have more of a role? Great work, BlackJupiter! I love all of your TWEWY videos so much! And oh my gosh! That thing about Ken Doi is crazy! Bless you for finding it! And you know... a lot of us KH fans were starting to think that Quadratum/Verum Rex stuff had nothing to do with TWEWY, after all, but maybe it does. Hopefully... I swear if the stuff that Nomura said about a third game happens (I hope so), I'm gonna die. And I really hope we get the Shinjuku story, too! That's maybe what I want most of all. You're keeping the hope alive for a sequel. Thank you so much for all you do. Also, I think that one skull picture was used in the Reaper Romp section in "Another Day", but it's clear that it was repurposed and that wasn't what they were originally using it for in that one Neo trailer. I honestly hope it doesn't. TWEWY doesn't need to leech off of KH like the IP's on life support anymore. I want the IPs to stay as separate as possible. So people don't think TWEWY and KH share the same universe (like I've seen some comments online say) thr KH DDD cameo of TWEWY characters already caused some brand confusion and we don't need anymore of that

I think the Pheonix Cantus change was good because it lined the boss up with Draco Cantus, a noise enhanced by an angel. The another day in the first The World Ends With You show that an angel is extremely powerful. Hanekoma only used 2 of his feathers to create 2 powerful versions of the Officers noises and Joshua only used one of his feathers to emulate a boss rush. The only other person to do this was Coco who was capable of creating a noise that could emulate Shibuya. Now with what Nomura said about KH 3, he was referncing the ending in a Shibuya, which was formed from a dream of the secret boss who hinted at going to different shibuya. He was also referncing some of the lines Sora said through the game that was from what Sora learned from Joshua in Dream Drop. And finally this is more of a easter egg, the beatdrop for the sound affinity is a reference to the pass the puck system from the ds version of TWEWY. And to no surprise you can keep using that beatdrop seconds after it finishes as sound pins with beatdrop bonuses paired with bonuses a character gets from the social network node and from sweetspots give a ton of bonuses. Also great video! I didn't know that Nomura teased a new place, as I'd thought the next ones would involve Marounochi and Roppongi. So it was pretty informative.

As someone who just binged both games within the last week, this was SUCH a blast to watch! I'm brand new to the fanbase, but boy do both of these titles have me in a stranglehold already. I'm trying to learn all that I can about the in-universe lore and even behind-the-scenes development, so this was PERFECT for me! No wonder Ayano's boss battle stuck out to me so much - it was likely never hers to begin with. And gosh, do I wish Kubo hadn't been in the final version. He wasn't even interesting to me, just annoying, and I did not like that reveal whatsoever. Having Haz would've made significantly more sense to me, cuz he otherwise feels extremely shoehorned in (despite having suuuuch a cool design). Thank you for sharing all of this information. Let's keep our fingers crossed for more TWEWY goodness to come 👍

9:52 and NEO'S tone is already really serious like the original, they just play up the lighter tone more in the beginning. Heck NEO goes even darker than TWEWY 1 in some ways. Also having the OG Cast as a rival team would've been cool but also really sad since that would mean you'd have to set them up to die since the last team standing wins and that had to be the Wicked Twisters

Yeah...It mantains mostly the same tone as the original, though the original has more tense sequences sprinkled throughout. Neo’s story takes a while to take off, and it’s beginning and middle part are substantially lighter than the original game’s tone. I don’t think it goes darker than the original though, i think they are about the same.

"If we continue to give our support" This is kind of the problem, Square-Enix skipped on the IP during 3DS days due to dissapointing software sales (mainly KH3D and other early titles), it was brought back on NSW because of early success on the platform (which included Final Remix) and its incredibly fast growing userbase. But Neo wasn't successfull, at all, all data we have points to it being an underachiever, not selling 50 000 copies in Japan, having lower launch sales than Final Remix (!?) in notable European markets, and having its (retail) price being lowered dramatically more often than not since release. It's a pity but that's how it is, them foregoing Nintendo support by going multiplatform was a first shot in the foot, not even mentionning the game at E3 before release was another one... and just being a sequel and not a new IP probably hurt it as well (as much as they brought a new cast of members the writing makes it clear they're coming afterwards in terms of relevancy plot wise) I'm all for more entries, but seeing how that was one of the only IP that ended up dissapointing sales wise (as opposed to things like Trials of Mana, Saga remasters, Octopath, Live a Live, Triangle Strategy, It was not an outright bomb like Babylon's Fall or Balan Wonderworld so maybe there's still some life left in there, but it can't and won't come back as is, no producer at Square Enix will be able to pull enough weight to have a new game greenlighted for now, Neo happened because of favourable circumstances and failed despite that and an early notable push and build up (remake + anime), it's sad but being optimistic on the IP future is rather hard for now

Didnt Joshua start as a player, fighting his way up the ranks to composer? So why couldn't Rindo's team beat an angel? Joshua would have had to beat an angel to get to his position. It would be kinda cool to have a game starring Joshua and his climb to composer. I dont want Joshua dying so it would be better to see his story, rather than having a new character take his place.

(Even if nothing I learn about it can possibly redeem Shiba in my eyes, fuck that dude.) NTWEWY SPOILERS: I am however really glad that Tsugumi didn't have Shoka's role (whatever that would've turned out to mean). I guessed at Shoka's true identity well before it was revealed and was tearing my hair out hoping Tsugumi was just a red herring, because the arc for Shoka building up in my brain was exactly as wonderful as it turned out to be.

I still don't get why they didn't try to make the FR extra content into an OVA, on the very least. I want to recommend the game, but I can't say "watch the anime and get rolling", as a part of the FR chapter is kinda necessary to understand some small non-insustantial straws of the game.

Lindo is Spanish as well for pretty, but i see it as a quirk of translation more that anything, L doesn't exist in Japanese, so R is used instead in foreign words with L, and translators will use Ls instead Rs in cases where its not clear if the word is foreign (names in games and files are usually written in the way you would write foreign words so it's not clear without communication with the writers)
