Regeneration is such a cool plot device in a show and it’s great to see how much it has changed since the classic series. The orange glow is the iconic regeneration style that they kept throughout the revival and I would love them to stick by that but maybe they might do regenerations similar to the classics at some point.

@@jackcobb2928I mean, it could have been a good explanation.... If it wasn't for the fact that literally every Time Lord's regeneration in new who has the orange glow, even from Time Lords that aren't the doctor The best explanation could be either make it so that the regenerations of old Who always had it via retcon or simply explain it by saying that after 8 regenerations there's too much energy inside a time Lord's body, which changes the old regeneration to the orange glow one In fact, i believe the right answer is a mix of both. Why? Because we do see the first doctor have the orange glow before regenerating after he met the 12th doctor in new who, but the orange glow is smaller, faintly shows, and then the first doctor regenerates the same way he did in old who (without the glow) This implies that the orange regeneration glow and sound effect were always there in-universe but the glow was too faint that it wasn't noticable

Twelve's regeneration still gets me right in the feelings more than the others. I don't know why. I remember I didn't like Peter Capaldi's Doctor in the beginning but loved him by the end. I might even like his Doctor more than Matt Smith's and Matt's Doctor was the one that got me back into Who after having refused to watch because I thought they'd just ruin it. @MrOmegatronic
@MrOmegatronic 8 ай бұрын
Honestly, that "non-traumatic" thing is probably a big part of it. Normally, the Doctor pushes himself to the limit, to the point that he outright doesn't have time to land somewhere safe before he regenerates, thanks to being anywhere from minutes to seconds away from death (Nine was effectively dead already, Ten was suffering from so extreme a case of radiation poisoning that he barely even made it back to the TARDIS and also spent all the time he had left visiting friends instead, Eleven was dying of old age and took advantage of the reboot to talk to Clara instead of actually delaying regeneration, and Twelve was already mid-regeneration and holding it back from sheer force of will). But Thirteen actually had the time to land first, and she took advantage of it. It also doesn't help that the more a Time Lord holds it in, the more explosive the regeneration energy is when it gets out. Which does make sense, it's like letting steam build up in an airtight container. Nine and Eleven just let it happen, and didn't have any trouble inside the TARDIS. Meanwhile, Ten and Twelve forcibly put regeneration on hold for days, and basically turned themselves into walking bombs in the process. Thirteen's is definitely flashy, but _probably_ wouldn't have caused any major damage even if it happened inside. (Not counting Eleven's initial doozy of a regeneration, pre-reboot, since it's ambiguous and non-standard. We don't have enough info to tell if it would've been naturally explosive, or if it's a special case caused by the Time Lords giving the Doctor a brand new set of regenerations and/or removing the mental block they put on One that kept Eleven from regenerating (depending on whether a certain plot twist ever gets retconned out); the "blast" happening before the "face change" instead of during it never happens before or after Trenzalore, after all, and that throws suspicion on the entire thing. As does the Dalek-blasting action not being included in most official compilations by the actual _Doctor Who_ team. And since it could be part of the regeneration itself, or it could be a side effect of overcharging the Doctor with regeneration energy to forcibly reactivate a natural process that by all means should have been impossible, I don't know whether it disproves the theory or is just a related-but-separate phenomenon. I am counting the change from Eleven to Twelve, though, since the actual "face change" is the explosive part of every _other_ regeneration.)

Early on, the Doctor didn't have much control over their regenerations, but eventually they could control it somewhat to even use regeneration energy to briefly reset an existing wounded or aged incarnation (as was the case with the 10th, 11th, and 12th Doctors), but only for a limited time (the video kind of nodded to that).

This meant that the producers of the series, both then and now, were able to present new actors as the Doctor without having to explain anything. My regeneration favorites are the 13th to 14th Doctor, and the Be generation. 13th to 14th Doctor was visually great. It's incredibly clear that the BBC HATES GINGERS! Why is he not ginger?! Will he ever be ginger? Also, I hope we get an old lady Doctor at some point. That would be sweet. The show is so well done, and was even in the cheesy old days -- the effects may have been iffy but the acting was always "fantastic"! I think they handled the bi-regeneration extremely well -- Ncuti's energy and joy is a total re-set from all of the New Who Doctors, who each had a lot of angst and sadness. As one would having gone through the Time War. Now The Doctor gets to heal AND we get the benefit of that healing and R&R. So clever! Thanks for a great video.

SPOILER ALERT: I will always remember the fourth regeneration, when Tom Baker left and Peter Davison stepped into the role. "The Watcher!" "He was the Doctor all the time!" Tom Baker was always my favorite Doctor from the classic series, so the end of his run was a big moment for me. This thing with bigeneration, though, presents a new twist. The Doctor essentially cloned himself so he could enjoy a form of retirement AND continue to galavant around the universe looking for new adventures.

The regeneration from Tom Baker to Peter Davison was also the first time I ever saw the Doctor regenerate.

because when the doctor was him those were very important for him, so when he gets back he gets the clothes too.

I always thought that when the Doctor regenerated, he was actually repowering the TARDIS. Is that a possibility?

I understand that it's used to illustrate a point but for new viewers who might decide to go back and watch new-who the Master regeneration is a big spoiler given that you aren't supoosed to know that character IS the master for a while.

There is no such thing as a favourite regeneration. Same as there's no such thing as a favourite Doctor. Each of them is brilliant on their own with their ups and downs and parting with any of them is a painful experience for any Whovian.

I hope traditional regeneration isn't a thing of the past. It worked with Ncuti and Tennant but it can't work every time. Regeneration, regenerates the show not just the Doctor.

My favourite is definitely 12 into 13. The speech, the ring falling off, the Tardis chucking them out, and the surprise in eventually finding out they were a woman. 11 into 12 is a very close second.

Simple DT with RTD gets to make specials and potential movies, while Ncuti and RTD get to make the main TV series. Also PG gets to make a prequel series with RTD. Other than that, it gives Tennant's fans the happy ending they craved.

@@davidvarley1812 I guess I hope it’s the only time it happens because I will just assume it’s because it happened while he was facing the toymaker and in games anything can happen so it would explain bigeneration and how the tardis divided
