Unless it is a limited or niche brand item you can get more. So the only way to make money is to do it in bulk, like the Colombian reseller in the video.

I work in retail, as a low level employee, for a multimillion dollar corporation. Most of the employees don't care if you steal and generally, employees are NOT allowed to confront shoplifters, follow them, or accuse them of anything. It's too much of a liability for the corporation. They would rather lose a couple hundred in merchandise, than a couple thousand in a lawsuit. My main piece of advice to shoplifters would be; don't hit the same store more than once or twice because we DO notice and at a certain point, if we DON'T report you, it makes US look suspicious. At the end of the day it's every man for himself. We had one shoplifter at my store, who came in every day, at the exact same time, wearing the exact same clothes. DON'T DO THIS. After a couple days I had to report her because she was being super obvious. If it was only once or twice, I would've let it slide.

I work adjacent to the retail industry. At least in my area, part if the Philadelphia market but not the city, it’s mostly black women and white men who shoplift. The black women typically steal out of desperation and poverty. The white men are typically either drug addicts or they’re part of a shoplifting network stealing high ticket items. It really depends on the area but it’s fair to say it’s not just black people. However, black people tend to stand out because when they get caught they are more likely to make a scene, which then perpetuates the stereotype.

Even reselling on eBay you only get about half of the retail price and then you pay about 15 percent in fees. So a $100 item. The booster gets about $30. The reseller lists it for $100 online and takes the first offer of $60 or more. Fees and shipping costs about $15. So after all of that there is only about $15-20 profit for a $100 boosted item. Unless it is a limited or niche brand item you can get more. So the only way to make money is to do it in bulk, like the Colombian reseller in the video.

I never recommend going this route. This could be a temporary thing but long term. It will end up problematic for sure. This is something that you get in and get out.
