Snapdragons showed up on their own in my flower bed last spring. I let them grow and loved them, but I didn't really do much in the way of harvesting seeds. This spring, I had a bunch more snapdragons growing, so I'm assuming the seeds fell to the soil and did their own thing. I'm in Canada. We had temps of -30C and still they did fine. I added a few of the seed pods from the previous year and they took off, too. Love them so much, I went to a green house and bought a few extra. And the really great thing where I live ... the deer don't like them! Deer eat so many other flowers, but they don't touch the snapdragons or marigolds, so that's what dominates my flower bed.

Fantastic to know, they also not eaten by slugs so they are one of the few plants that came through my slug battles unscathed

This is a great video--I happen to be in a steep learning curve with snapdragons. The problem I keep having is the length of time between germination and ready to transplant seems inordinately LONG--this last batch was more than 6 weeks. I think I heard you say that you start them in August? That may have been my error--I started them in September and they are still SO tiny. However, they are looking really good even though small and hoping our winter treats them kindlly. Can you verify again when you start them for fall planting? I am in 8b Oregon USA and climate much like yours.

Planting them in September is absolutely fine. I would keep them protected over winter (mine are in an unheated greenhouse) and then hopefully they will be big enough come spring. They do take ages, but I find if you pot them on it gives them a boost to grow a bit more. But overwinter this shouldn't be necessary. But they stay teeny for ages!!!

You have shared info that I have been seeking for some time. I appreciate the various stages of growth. I have some now and so tiny and I look and think I must’ve done something wrong - they have stopped growing when actually they are just taking their time. Very very helpful ❤

They stay tiny FOREVER! I find if you pot them on it seems to activate them a bit, but as it's coming up to winter just leave them and they'll get going in spring x
