Judith's voice saved my life, In 1967 My mom was put in the hospital for a nervous breakdown; she had 4 boys in 5 years and my father was an ass, 2bkind, . My mother was committed to a mental hospital where they were frying her brain with shock treatments, I went to stay with an awful aunt while this was going on and I was in hell at 4 years old; I heard an angels voice coming through the radio and it was Judith's'. To this day folk music is the only thing that has kept me whistling and smiling, most of the time.... Thank you everyone Esp. Miss Judith Durham, love eternal...rip.
@carlhorton683311 ай бұрын
They don't fry brains with shock treatments, it's called ECT (electro convulsive therapy) and they had/have great results with it, it offers people almost instantaneous relief from a whole range of depressive symptoms including catatonia. it's not in common usage, but where it is used, it gives a definite window of relief. Don't dismiss what you don't understand (and yes, I am qualified to make that statement, I am a qualified mental health professional)

I am gobsmacked that Judith Durham's amazing voice would remain utterly unchanged after all those decades. Not a jot of wavering or loss of power or control ... and her vibrato as perfect as ever. The Seekers had a unique, harmonically rich and powerful sound for an acoustic folk band with minimal acoustic instruments.

As a child in the 1960s I remember the Seekers mainly because my mother loved Judith Durham's remarkably distinctive and pristine voice and raved about her back then. Her sound is thus a powerfully evocative memory of my mother who died in 2016. My youngest sister, born in 1966, chanced upon this song one day recently (in 2022) and could not understand why it had such an impact on her - too young to remember it properly, but it had gone deep down inside without her realizing. She had to ask me why.

If Christians are correct in believing there will be a Final Judgment in which we all give an account of what we've done/not done with our talents and gifts, the Seekers will have nothing to apologize for in all their years of singing...and so very much for which the angels themselves will sing their "Amen." Such grace, goodness and beauty they have given us.
