This is my favourite video from 'The Seekers Down Under' (TV Special, 1967) with Judith Durham's natural charm shining through. A DVD is now available with all 3 of The Seekers' 60s TV specials, including this song & 47 others! - www.theseekers.com.au/merchandise
The words are from the book of Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament, adapted by Pete Seeger. I've enhanced the clip so the audio plays in stereo by using the original 1966 recording - more videos from Judith and The Seekers on the playlists below:

What you are observing is the wholesomenes resulting from God fearing generations, post WWII that had experienced, dark evil first hand.. and endured and overcame through prayers faith and God's providence. How old does Judith look? She looks youthful. The entire generation looked youthful because ( the majority) in this era were not sullied. Later the endless media brainwashing of what " real freedom"was would take it's ghastly toll, including loss of youthful facial features at the same age as the earlier generation. Want to keep your youthful looks, eschew the values of today's herd, and turn, turn, turn to the values of the earlier generations- live clean.

Quite often fans say that Judith has the voice of an angel. I am not sure about this because at that stage in her career her singing went beyond any sort of comparison, even with herself in the years to come. It was indeed an unsurmountable display of a piece from their great repertoire that took the best of her own interpretative abilities , supported by the boys arrangements. This was possible in that period of 3 years and never again, perhaps not even when they regrouped in 1993. This interpretation of Turn, Turn, Turn is a good example. It is marvelous, to use the right word. Judith stares at you, listener , saying: Listen to me. This is the truth from the gospels, and I AM its voice... And we believe on her. Yes, Judith. You are Glory on Earth;

@@osvaldoschilling9129 I think if anything her voice improved after she left the Seekers. I don't know what the correct term is, perhaps it mellowed or matured, in any case there are so many examples of her solo (and reunion) recordings of gospel, jazz, pop, and ballads that IMHO bear this out. I don't know why so many think of her as only a member of the Seekers -- she was so much more than that.

The heady 1960s, when it felt like life was meant to last forever. We were caught and lost in its pulsating vibes. It could be awesome, when everyday is a happy day...
@patagualianmostly7437
@patagualianmostly7437 2 ай бұрын
You know, you are right. Since the 60's the value of life and its simple pleasures have been slowly eroded....taken away from us. We have been robbed, as have our children. And theirs.... Why are we not rioting in the streets to say; "Enough"!....Enough is enough!? I will tell you why.... we have surrendered... But why? Because we were told that any resistance would be deemed racist. It is that simple. That one phrase...has conquered a Country. No invasion. No armada, no Operation Sea lion from Hitler.... we simply rolled over We stupidly believed "they" were the "wise ones" they knew best for us....... Now look where we are: In a country divided by racial hatred....based on reality , not political jargon and claptrap from the hand wringers. Where you dare not say Boo to a Goose.... Where even "misgendering" some "article" has become a crime...... even if you had no idea it WAS a crime! The wedge from these invaders was silently slipped under the door..... The door is now permanently open: All and sundry can arrive with impunity and abuse you. You and your way of life: All your traditions and beliefs: Irrelevant. Your care and education for your children....meaningless. You will change everything to accommodate the new arrivals.... be they from yesterday or a decade ago: No matter, the rules were made long ago... AND YOU DID NOTHING. Nothing. You did not question ANYTHING..... Some of them could not even be bothered to vote: Yet stood up up in the pub and declared what a great bloke they were: "I'm not voting for any of them!" Like they were some kind of pioneer..... some kind of new evangelist....even whilst sounding like a complete twat....(which they were, by the way.) Unbelievably stupid does not come close to that reality. Sorry for the rant.... but I simply wanted to agree with you.... Yes: the Heady 60's were the best..... tomorrow was something to look forward to, not to be feared. Yet it has been taken away....it has been stolen by successive governments: It's not the Right or the Left....they have ALL robbed us.....Robbed you and I, your children and their children. When will we call a halt to this madness? When will we restore mankind's faith in the future?

They can't hold a note as they have neither the vocal training , or the tonal quality (not pitch!) of their voice. Wandering all over each word the way modern singers do is simply a way to disguise the deficiency in their tonal quality and the fact that they can not hold a note for a milisecond before exposing themselves as karaoke queens. Compare even a formally untrained singer like Carly Simon's voice with its inherent superb tonal quality with someone like Miley Cyrus whose voice is so electronically altered you would not recognize her if she sang alone/unsupported.

This is the seventh song of the Seekers I've listened to now. I keep commenting Judith had the most beautiful voice of the 60s, my decade for coming of age. But here, just heavenly and saddening to me. The words from the Book of Ecclesiastes were on the card for my grandfather's funeral in 1970. Judith took me back to not only a younger time in my life, but reminded me of him.

Judith was classically trained, but a natural singer and a great pianist. Her natural ability to engage with the audience was a key aspect of her performances. She was a great person, kind and thoughtful, who lived her life well and will be sadly missed.

She went through life superbly in spite of: the early death of her beloved husband Ron; the car accident where her arm and leg were broken; a broken hip; her stoke; her ongoing overcoming of childhood bronchiatis; figuring out a stalker lady; and late in life lack of energy. She maintained her faith of hope anyways !!!

So encouraging to me that so many other people in the world recognize the angelic qualities in Judith's voice. Very rare that someone attains that. Only a few others are comparable, Karen Carpenter is one of them.

Can only agree. I used to buy their albums and was never disappointed. Clarity of the lead, perfect harmonies and strong but not flooding musicianship. In a word “perfect”..I am glad that they didn’t sell their souls to the US music scene. They had real talent, and still have. See them doing “reunion” concerts and the same perfection is evident. Simply the best folk/light rock group that has existed, without peer.

One can find in youtube the whole presentation of the 1997 This is your Life program for Judith Durham, including the initial scenes in which she is surprised with the This is your Life book being put in front of her by Michael Munro ( the program host) while signing autographs in a shopping center. In this ocasion she produces one of the most sincere and beautiful smiles I have her seen in my life ( and she was 53-4 at the time).
