I just now subscribed. I'm age 21 and did gymnastics for 14 years through age 18. From age 13 I was more or less raising myself and needed to make money for gymnastics academy fees. And that got me into helping with remodeling for a property management company. I stuck with the job when I could. I got into full time construction at age 20 and love it. I see in this video a lot of "American" ways of doing the drywalling. I love your remodeling projects. Wish I could be there to help.

I like your calm, open and transparent commentary, I watched your video from start to finish. As far as covering the stone goes, this is your home and you can do whatever you want with it. I would cover the stone too, to feel cozy and comfortable. Also, a youtube comment lasts only a second and is forgotten, you live in your home for the foreseeable future. You did good!

Living in Canada, and enjoying stone architecture, I can totally agree about insulation. It would be nice to have bare stone walls, but in Winter, it would literally kill people. They would be Canuck-sicles. The place looks great. Enjoying the short update videos.

Piggybacking on your comment - I live in Scotland and it’s a pretty dumb take to suggest that he should have left the walls bare. Not only would it be unliveable but to try and heat the place would be suuuper expensive. One of the biggest energy efficiency challenges in the U.K. is that so many houses here are really old and not properly insulated but installing adequate new insulation is expensive and would require destroying some period features (old fireplaces or plasterwork cornicing). It’s a big task but totally essential to meet carbon reduction goals. By taking two old properties and renovating them to modern liveable standards, George is actually helping contribute to environmental efficiency in Scotland 💙

Great work as always, George! And yes, having been to Scotland a number of times, and also having lived in the North of Ireland right across the way, I can attest to its being very COLD and DAMP many months out of the year! The idea of leaving the walls plain rock and not insulating -- I'm shivering at the very thought! Yikes. That would have led to black mold, illness, condensation, hypothermia -- you name it. Of Course you have to insulate! If there is one small space somewhere in the house where you can leave the rocks showing, that would be great, but only as a small design feature -- not as a way to live! Holy geez. And I love the idea of the 10-hour video showing the whole process. Nice one! 😊👍 Keep up the great work!

@@112Haribo The joke is he needs 1000 spf because he is so pale so the sunlight exposure is not his friend. For us, the skylights let in a lot of heat so we put a film on that kept the heat from coming through. Depending on the quality of glass and thickness, he may not need to do that.

Whatever length of video you decide to put out will be appreciated and enjoyed by tons of us and hopefully will help with that scary tax bill. The Dunnett Bros business plan is a great one - no outsider input needed. Lastly, the renovation team makes it look so easy and almost like a dance on how they move getting the job done - love it.

Amazing transformation seen here from dark and gloomy to light & bright with plasterboard finish, masses of natural light and new appropriate white double glazed French/patio doors. The new rigid insulation will keep the interior warm in winter and cool in summer, helps with acoustics and sound insulation too, energy is expensive in Britain, winters can be long and damp, so high performance insulation is worthwhile and essential.

Good to see the progress being made with this project. It's really cool that you get on with your brother well enough that you would consider going into this arrangement with him. Having lived in a home during a major renovation, I can't recommend staying in your new home until the work is complete. If your parents are able to put you up for the intervening time, I think that would be the better option. Living in a partial building site is no fun at all.

As a person living in a hot climate I can attest to needing insulation on masonry walls. I have an old exposed brick wall in my dining room & thought it’d be “cool” to leave it uncovered so I took the insulation off! It gets morning sunlight only but it heats up so much that it then continues to radiate heat for the rest of the day! In 100 degree Fahrenheit climate, it’s like living next to a bakery! So yeah, I’m voting for insulation next time 😢

The cat AND the crew are awfully cute lol... just saying. If I need housing help, I'm coming over. 😂 But seriously, your videos have quickly become favourites for me. It's your calm but humorous demeanour and speaking, and the way you make every day experiences so insightful and aesthetically pleasing! You truly deserve all the growth and support you get, and I hope more and more comes your way. Thanks for being my hit of wholesome. ✌🏻x

Wish I had those skills. Half the upstairs of my house is unfinished. Maybe one day I can afford some craftsmen like these to come get the job done. Regards from Indiana!

Hey George I'm really enjoying this series and the amazing craftsmanship of Sean-Paul, he is such a highly skilled individual and looks so natural in every task. I can't wait to see the final product :) Something to think about.. perhaps this is different and very specific to the town your from and the research you've done, but from my experience 'holiday lets' or AirBnB generally make significantly less profit that long term letting. I previously worked as a tax accountant, completing tax returns for many different people who owned more than one property. I would say that the running costs of short term letting often ate significantly into profits in most instances, and people who let properties long term made more money with a lot less faff. I think the initial cost of becoming a registered landlord and preparing the house for long term rental may be expensive (and may not be suitable for your current timeframe with taxes due at the end of January) but I think this may be worth considering for longer term... just a thought and sorry for the boring financial comment lol looking forward to your next video

Glad you're enjoying it and totally agree re: SP! On the Airbnb vs. long term note, thanks for that insight! I've already got the ball rolling on the holiday let front so I'd like to at least give it a good shot before considering other options, but I do genuinely appreciate you lending your experienced viewpoint on it.

One negative about long term letting is possibly standing by as someone abuses your property. Not all renters are conscientious and considerate when it comes to keeping clean & tidy. Short term seems less risky to the interior of the house. It’s hard to imagine strangers being careless but it’s a thing.

I can see where you are coming from. With holiday lets you do need to be prepared to pay to fully equip a place, do quick turnaround cleans, be on hand to respond to enquiries and problems which can get irksome. I guess it depends on what the monthly rental could be versus short term lets. I am guessing he will get a lot of interest from followers. I don’t like Air BnB, if were me I would use one of the more traditional style booking companies if I wanted an intermediary. And maybe a minimum stay, definitely no 1 night jobs.

What a great transformation! It is now so bright and light. There will always be someone to criticize. As someone who has lived in colder climate, Insulations is vital.

Hey George, not entirely sure of the tax differences between England and Scotland, but I would definitely recommend you speaking to a tax advisor about setting up a LTD Co for your KZbin business… it’s really not efficient to be taking your income all in your personal name. Most KZbinrs start that way, but notice significant improvements when they divert at your financial stage.

I sympathize with the sentiment of those who, like the exposed stone walls, as they are quite beautiful. However, they have likely never lived in a cold climate with no insulation in their home, lol. As a young adult, I read many books about princesses living in castles in Scotland, and I always wondered how they stayed warm! Regardless of the practicalities involved, that room looks so comfy and cozy with the drywall everywhere. It is so bright and cheerful! 👍👍😄

I'm looking forward to the 10-hour video. I enjoy putting on a train ride video with sounds when I am having difficulty with my anxiety. I will have a daughter soon, and I would love to show her calming home improvement videos to distract her when she isn't sure why she's upset (of course after we've ruled out sleepy, hungry, gassy, and any other of the dwarves) and to expose her to practical skills that she can do, someday. My dad drove me past a hospital housing complex on the way to daycare and called them "house bones". I would check out the progress each day. My dad worked for a power tool company and got me involved in furniture assembly at a young age. I intend to do similarly with my daughter, but probably with a touch more safety involved.

Even in Italy people will cover stone walls with some kind of plaster because you need to provide a buffer from the elements. And people been doing this since the beginning. I lived in a 500 year old farm house, and the plaster was so important. (One of the rooms didn't have any central heating and it was utterly freezing unless we kept the fire going for hours.)
