Seven-Ups is the best car chase in cinema history, and Bill Hickman and Richard Lynch are arguably my favorite goons in a movie. Great looks, great personalities, great movie.

Thank you for uploading this. I'm Philip D'Antoni's grandson, and it's really great to hear his voice again.

Your grandfather is a legend. Sorry for your loss . I really enjoyed his work. Did he do anymore projects later in life?

@@Rk-bd2ez Thanks for the kind words. He mostly did TV in his career, the list is small but most of it's available on his wikipedia page, except for "Melina Mercouri's Greece" for some reason. My Dad (Phil's son-in-law) worked for a few years to revitalize the Movin' On TV show, so now the DVDs are available. Then there are the three films he made: Bullit, The French Connection, and The Seven Ups. But once he made enough projects that he could comfortably retire he did so and never looked back. The only times I ever saw him entertain an audience were when he gave a speech at his 50th wedding anniversary dinner, and when I somehow convinced him and my middle school teacher to let him come into class and talk about being in the movie industry (Which was really just an excuse for me to show off to the other kids how cool my grandpa was).

@@Rathause Thank you for your response.He was always a favorite of mine. His movies always had the ability to capture the amazing features of the cities in which he filmed. He couldn’t of done a better job with San Francisco’s city streets , hills and the architecture of the homes in Bullit . He was able to display the urban decay going on in New York City during the 1970s with French Connection and The Seven ups . Not to mention, the incredible car chases. I’m happy to hear he had a long comfortable life . He deserved it ! He was a member of the greatest generation. I think your grandfather created a fascinating and unique genre of movies. They had a similar feature in that the movie’s story took place within a day or two! Many movies tried to follow his work . A credit to your grandfather, they had to use green screens and computers. Would love to see a tribute video of him on KZbin. Stay safe and healthy. Best wishes to you and your family.

Always loved how cool and unfazed Bill Hickman was during both Bullet and The 7 Ups.

I have always been very interested in this chase sequence because I lived in & spent many years in the places it was done.....the Manhattan, Brooklyn & Bronx areas of NYC, and Westchester County, NY. I know & have driven on most of the streets & highways on which the whole thing was staged. BTW, the chase starts at the garage on 56th street between 10th & 11th ave. in Manhattan, and ends on the Taconic Parkway in Westchester Co, about 20 miles above the north end of NYC (Bronx). It makes me feel good to know that me & Bill Hickman drove on the same roads!

the chase went from Manhattan over the GWB...how would it end in Westchester?
@Marc8169 жыл бұрын
It ended in Westchester because of logistical, budgetary & time contraints that the producer had to deal with. They probably hoped that people who weren't familiar with NYC and the surrounding area wouldn't know the difference.

it's still a good chase scene...I always wondered why they would put a little Ventura up against a Grand Ville

+David Phelan I think because it's what Pontiac wanted to give them for the product placement.

I found 56th Street on Google Earth, red brick building they're standing next to when filming is still there, but garage gone replaced by what looks like massive apartment building, interesting to see what it looks like today.

Watching this in the large screen of the theatre , I could feel the sensation of flying down the hills and the sense of speed . They made my heart fly into my mouth . Greatest chase ever.

A friend worked on this film.[Barry Weitz]....He and Phil went on to do a mid 1970's NBC TV series titled Movin'On.Both Barry and Phil were always at their best when collaborating.I still keep in touch with Barry.Phil passed on a few years ago.I speak often with his son in law......Both are legends in the film industry.

Actor Richard Lynch was genuinely horrified riding with Bill Hickman. Likewise with Paul Genge in "Bullitt".

I read where the guy in Bullitt was so scared, they had to medicate him to get thru the scenes. He was begging to get out of the car.

They don't make them like Hickman any more. He also did the downtown Las Vegas "car carousel" in 1971's "Diamonds Are Forever."

Can't believe there was a driver in that car. I assumed they floored it without a driver. Amazing!!
@scottthewaterwarrior10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was pretty amazed too, I actually figured that they had just used another car to push it and then stop before it was in the shot. Still not as good as Gone in 60 Second (IMO) but I think this is actually a better chase then Bullett.

I was actually milling about one Saturday in Manhattan on 'The Seven-Ups' set in early 1973. North of the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Amazing times. I must have counted 5 film cameras. Had no idea until now what the car that gets to be decapitated actually had a person inside of it when it crashed. Now that is scary. I think that part was filmed in New Jersey.

Some of the interior shots of the Ventura during the chase show the car in Park.

That usually only happens when the vehicle is secured to a car trailer and pulled by a truck.
