See the map progression of the war considered by many historians as the first true global war. It includes the war in Europe as well as the French and Indian War and the Third Carnatic War as well as the other major fronts.

Leader IM If anyone won the Seven Years War, It was The UK, who kicked the france off the eastern seaboard of North America, became the preeminent european power in India. Austria, and France are probably the biggest losers, while Prussia and Russia got off with no loss. Given the circumstance you could say Prussia scored a great victory, but in truth it was survival, and barely that.
@mohli
@mohli 9 жыл бұрын
I actually read that France won most wars in the past 800 years, i would agree that Austrian lost many wars and were not really good fighters tho, Prussia got conquered by Napoleon, and survived worst After they became Germany, And Russia style of winning is pretty embarrassing, as they burned Moscow and ran away when Napoleon came to fight, they did the same thing to Stalingrad when hundreds of thousands of Nazi Soldiers penetrated it in WWII, they also choose to give up much of their land to Germany in WWI to withdraw from the war... Perhaps the only country in would think were very successful was the UK, and maybe the only one to never get conquered

A perfect example of what happens when a multinational coalition fails to cooperate properly. Russia pulled out and everything went downhill fast. A similar situation happened when Britain pulled out of the Spanish Succession War. That is why the Allied success in WWII is such a remarkable achievement.
@HistoricalAffairs

ubertuber3d An exception to the rule was the coalition against Napoleon, in which multiple different nations pulled multiple different times. Then again, the war did last for a whopping 15+ years, so I suppose you are right in some aspects.
@ubertuber3d

Historical Affairs The Sixth and Seventh coalitions were the exception, the ones before that were a perfect example of what I was talking about. I also could've used WWI as an example because the Allies did win, but they didn't cooperate nearly as well as they did in WWII. I mean they didn't even appoint a guy to coordinate their strategy until the last few months of the war.

That's not really true since France was the main opponent of the UK and Prussia. Russia and Austria didn't really participated that much and Spain joined when France was already too weak to take back the advantage. Things could have been really different if Spain joined earlier

Yes; France lost mainly because they lost the war at sea, but Spain and France vs Britain would have been something else. Not to mention France couldn't decide whether to concentrate on the war at sea or the war on the continent, losing both in the end. Also, Russia and Austria were in fact pretty much about to win against Prussia at some point...but then the first Miracle of the House of Brandenburg. And Prussia could still have lost, but then, Elizabeth died, Peter III took the throne of Russia, and he instaured all his pro-Prussia policies (ending the war against Prussia, for example). Second Miracle of the House of Brandenburg.

@J7Handle
@J7Handle 9 жыл бұрын
Stimme der Vernunft Wasn't quite, not in the way that the official two world wars were. The Seven Years War had most of the fighting contained to East coast North America, Central Europe, and East India. World War 1 contained far more belligerents, was fought throughout Africa, Europe, the Middle East, as well as a couple other minor places. World War 2 was much of the same. Widespread fighting through Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, as well as the Pacific as well and East and Southeast Asia. World War 2 is really the only true World War, and even then should really be called The Great Afro-Eurasian War as there was no fighting in the Americas and only 2 American belligerents. Canada and The United States. And Canada was and is part of the British Commonwealth. World War 1 should be The Great Afro-European War, as while it did include parts of Asia like Russia (only as belligerent) and the Middle East (genuine fighting) most of Asia was not involved. The Seven Year's War Should be The Great European War, as while it did include India, North and South America, all of the fighting there was by European countries. But instead it's the Seven Years War, because it's much easier to remember what the was is about from how LONG it is than what part of WORLD it is. There really hasn't been a war that includes parts of the entire world, in front lines, or even as belligerents.

Lucian Willi Japan did invade a couple of the Aleuts so there was some fighting in the Americas, also there was hundreds of skirmishes between German U-boats and south-central american countries near their coasts, so it was a world war if you ignore the lack of fighting in Antartica.

I learned about World War Two before I did World War One so I always thought World War One was a war before the revolutionary war. And...years later, I get to hear that I was kinda correct while being COMPLETELY wrong in an odd way. It’s very interesting and definitely makes war my favorite thing to learn about. One thing that always bothered me was that for some reason, France and Britain could ferry troops all the way to Americas to fight over colonies, but they couldn't just put men on a boat and land in either France or Britain for so long. I know Napoleon was planning an invasion and England invaded France during the Hundred Years war, but it just seems strange. Why was that so difficult?

AnOriginalName 2 years late but you don't seem to understand the size and might of the British navy. The British navy was their military arm not the army like other European nations, they had more warships than France and Spain combined. Any attempt by the French to invade Britain would have been destroyed by the many British ships still in Britain, and would have been a useless waste of french men and ships. The British during this war actually did invade French ports on the west coast, but only for raids lasting a few days, and these were not very successful

@@gokalzetop4183 Yes, the British and French history is so complex and interesting, because retrospective analysis makes it pretty clear that if either France wins the 7 years War, or doesn't get involved for revenge in the American Revolutionary War, then there would almost definitely no modern state of USA, or Germany (a wealthy military strong France, would not allow German unification) and also conflict zones all over the world would either not exist and country names and boundaries would be completely different.All the political, legal and economic structures in the world are either based on the Anglo, or Franco structures, also If the French won the 7 years War, the Brits would just take the colonies back when they became industrialised with the 1st steam powered gunboats and funded by British Coal and iron reserves found in the early 19th century, leading to a smaller, more gradual Industrial Revolution without the Indian resources. if France doesn't get involved in the war of independence, it doesn't go bankrupt and the revolution doesn't happen, at least in the way did and gives royalty more chance to make the necessary reforms and remains militarily strong and able to diplomatically intimidate the German states to divide and conquer, as it had done for its entire history up to that point *The Brits and the French really messed it up for themselves, because the future would have been maybe a thousand years of dominance from those 2 cultures

Sadly - our democracy (yep, we had democracy then, but only for 10% of population) was very very corrupted (you know, people want to be rich, so they get money for doing thing in goverment), our nobles were extremally rich, and they didn't care about Poland. To people saying this was the real First World War, I disagree. However I do think the Napoleonic Wars were the real First World War. Because unlike this war the Napoleonic Wars saw not only line warfare but also trench and guerrila warfare. Napoleon was the first to introduce large armies of up to a million men in armies at once. On top of that, seven million across the Americas, Europe, North Africa, Western Asia and India died.
@ericbiswas9822

Scale of a conflict does not determine what is in fact a world war. Take a look at the 30 years war which resulted in the death of 8 million people. Now the 30 years war wasn't a world war because the conflict only occured in Europe. I also don't believe innovation in military warfare is another justifiable means for calling something a world war. What does matter is where the war was fought. If there is conflict in the bulk of the globe then it may be considered a world war.
