i met john lydon on a flight back from LA to London. He is a performer. That is why he is in the business. He is actually a nice bloke. No bullshit. Only person on a whole flight that offered me a hand getting my bag as i am disabled - he was a decent bloke, respectful and kind. He is very well spoken and likes a laugh. He had no reason to be nice or polite he was just a decent bloke. End of.

Sometimes in real life, the so called "nice guys" are really not the nicest. Sometimes the guys who play the meanest, and most intimidating people are really nice. Point is, don't judge a book by its cover. If you can find it, The Filth and The Fury (2000) is a Documentary film, has John Lydon, speaking from his heart, emotionally, explaining that he wish he could have stopped Sid from his ultimate self destruction and demise. Here you have a true friend speaking compassionately about the guilt he feels that he let Sid down. Very touching. There are also a wonderful shot of when the Sex Pistols hosted a Christmas Party for underprivileged children, and the smiles that they brought to these wonderful kids, by handing out presents and cake. Guess who else was smiling, but the bigger kids, The Sex Pistols. So yes, cover blown, the Sex Pistols, and John Lydon are nice guys. :)

Pete Marr hahahah....you hit on the head! I mean just look at the "American " movie stars. Who are they now? Bale (English) as Batman ( yeah I know Ben is taking it over but indulge me) Cavill (Brit) as Superman, Garfield as Spider-Man ( Does he count cause he is Half American half Brit?) Fassbender (Irish) Magneto, McAvoy (Scot) as Prof X, Jackman (Aussie) Wolverine ,and the go to action star nowadays is Statham. Now don't get me wrong I have NOTHING against any of these actors but America is kinda running out of the Male movie star.

+Pete Marr Well they all live in LA. Just as Morrissey lives in LA, too. How many other Brits, when they make it, move to LA? Can you blame them for leaving that freezing island where you catch a cold every winter from the damp that just won't go away, the endless rain, and horrible food. You cannot find something spicy to eat ANYWHERE in the UK. It doesn't matter if its Indian, or whatever, you cannot get spicy food there. Buffalo Wings to them are chicken wings with catsup on them.

Love the Sex Pistols! Was very lucky to see them back in 2008 at Hammersmith. They were on top form and on fire! What a performance! I had the great pleasure of meeting John last year, I was a bit nervous approaching him, as they say that you shouldn't meet your heroes and my heart was racing LOL! But he was lovely. Dream come true for me as I always wanted to meet him. I wanted to say a lot more to him but was too starstruck! Plus I have the most insane crush on him so that made it a bit tricky LOL! It's such a shame that they've fallen out over the TV drama. There'll never be a band like them. Luckily John has PIL who I love equally as much as the Pistols. ❤❤❤❤

John would DESPISE anyone categorizing anything hes done, or categorizing music in general...as well he should. It promotes laziness. It's one of the things I admire about him and a few other musicians. Once the record industry catches on to something interesting, they throw a label on it, package it, and sell units. If you buy into that, you've just been duped by some guys in suits with no interest in art. Just be an individual and make music and art you wanna make.

i understand but its not true , how was rock and roll first ever spread across the earth? well if you didnt know it was a record company called SUN RECORDS and people have been with record companies since the dawn of rock and roll and wait isnt punk a branch from rock and roll??? dont punk bands sign up with RecordS? if they did it then they can do it now! sum 41 and greenday could make their own style but maybe they dont want it to become widespread maybe it just does BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE It

Dood because most people these days think that the punk bands now arent punk they think that 19 60's and 70's bands are the only true ones that is fucking bullshit!, and plus sum 41 dont sing like girls, answer me this why do people play punk if they want to draw attention ? wouldnt that be wanting to make your style more mainstream??? more fans + more concerts + putting out albums = eventually mainstream!!

hmm i dont really see anything wrong with sum 41 , dood wtf im sick of people who think that your only punk if your sitting in some fucken gutter and drinkin shitloads and knowone knows about your band !!!!, music is only commercial when record companys tell the composers how their music should sound, so it doesnt matter if your living in a dumpster playing a guitar or your in a skyscraper composing music , its still what youve created , no one elses music!!!!

@omerta0414 hey man, the ramones were influenced by the new york dolls to create punk. the sex pistols saw the ramones on a european tour, and liked the style so much, they decided to make their own punk band, So the pistols and the clash made punk mainstream, but the ramones and the dolls really created the genre.

@Purerockband A 'chav', to explain this to those in the US, is like basically all the people that end up on Jerry Springer. Or like Anna Nicole when she was alive. Or like the people on that show My Name Is Earl. Only British that's all instead of American. Speaking of which there is a Jerry Spiger-alike wannabe show in the UK and it's called the Jeremy Kyle show.

@MrFixsus Punk was the attitude of Rock and Roll music. That's why they did cover songs of Summertime Blues, Substitute, Roadrunner, etc...Rock and Roll, man. Look at the Ramones, they aren't Punk either, the attitude is Punk and the music is garage Rock and Roll. If you lived through it, you'd know that. It isn't about what the music stores list the genre as.

Times changed and so did peoples attitudes about the whole idea of punk rock. IS it the fashion? is it the attitude? you know what, who cares...I'm not gonna go up to some spikey haired, leather jacket wearing moron, and give him/her my "old man" 2 cents of what I think punk rock is about, because it'll sound nothing more than some pissing contest.

and why should this remain futuile no i need to make sure that everyone understands this i may be younger than you but i dont care , your either punk or you aint , and people who care so much about it are just annoying thats what happens with a lot of things if you care too much about them and think about them too much then you fail in everyway of what you want to do.

NO punk shouldnt always be about oh the government is doing this and that , and if maybe you actually looked at sum 41 closeley not just taking in what random people say , you might understand that their attitude is somewhat the same as the older punk bands like the ramones, most people say oh their with mtv they suck

Why do ignorant people feel the need to try to enlighten the rest of us? Matlock co-wrote the songs. Steve Jones had to rerecord all of his stuff on never mind. The Sex Pistols died when John chose. Sid Vicious was/is little more then a publicity tool, albeit a good one.

Buddy, you're wrong. Today is worse than ever before. Talent is a thing of the past. I'm 45 years old, and I can tell you that talent in showbiz has DECREASED, generally. since the 1970's. If you you doubt me, check out any TV show, album, book, or movie from the 70's.

I grew up listenening to The Sex Pistols on account of my parents. Now in my opinion, I did like Sid, completely off his face half the time..but I did like him. He didn't make the band what it was. He could barely play a fucking guitar. Now.... There not The Sex Pistols without Johnny Rotton :D

I am British; are there not any posters here who cannot put together a couple of lines of decent 'unmangled' English. It is not only Americans and other colonies, but I find that there are many from even these small isles who cannot string together a meaningful sentence.

also dood were not living in the fucken 1960's anymore so maybe you all need to accept that punk doesnt matter if your widely known or not known at all , if your a fast paced band you use heaps of energy, you dont sing like complete girls and your not fully depressed id say youd be punk!

Hey, we're about the same age -- I meant no disrespect to the punks of my youth (as opposed to the posers now, who just buy a Social Distortion T-shirt at the mall) but (1) it sucks getting old (2) these two guys are getting old, and (3) these guys used to make fun of people who got old.

Oh yeah sure we kniw of GG Allin. I know of him too, but not a fan of his music. I don't like punk. Im into more heavier rock like screamo, industrial metal etc. The only song I like BY FAR of The Sex Pistols is Anarchy in The UK

@vlwpictures haha you don't get it aight? they never called themselves punk, and lydon is against any categorization at all. so its correct to call them a genre of their own. @COOPZilon never heard about that?! you know at which time this was?

no blockyboy, listen to Stiff Little Fingers, Cocksparrer, The Lurkers, ANL, 999, The Clash, Damned, Vibrators, Ramones, Penetration, X ray Spex and dozens of other bands and not a Maclaren contrived double album of drivel. It does what it says on the tin
