@@gsjourney3054 Yes, it does indeed vary from person to person. For me, the best thing is shaving every two days. Of course I do not always stick to this. I remember when I shaved of my beard of which I did not take good care of and switched to 5 o'clock shadow. It was so liberating, It felt like I cleared my face. Not long after that I started wearing contacts instead of glasses and it really helped. If Iook at older pictures of me with beard and glasses as I look now in the mirror, I feel so much more confident and attractive. And it shows with with my dating life. So 5 o'clock shadow all the way for me.

Thank you so much for this video, Courtney! Personally I've always loved to experiment with my facial hair, and try to even be creative with it to see how others react. It's always reassuring to hear from a woman exactly how she feels about each of the basics. I often to try to stay away from the traditional and definitely down with bringing the sideburns back! In the end, though, it's about what I look in the mirror and looks/feels right on me for any given day. Have an awesome Valentine's Day and big fan love from PA ❤

The stubble and scruff looks are styles I’ve always liked and have tried to maintain, since I think it works for my beard which doesn’t really grow any hair between my chin hair and mustache - my mustache and beard are kinda separate, but I make up for that with these two styles and it slays😉. With my thick chops however, I might give the faded beard a try.

Going to try for 3-4 months of just letting it go (with a top line and bringing the bottom line down with it as it grows so it doesn’t look super messy) and just see what I’m working with! If it looks like a respectable beard, maybe I’ll keep it. If it doesn’t look that great, it only takes 10 minutes to take it all off!

Well, as for tastes it's useless to discuss about them, cause like you said Courtney, the tastes are different (some prefer mustache, some prefer beards, some prefer shaved people, etc.). What will mostly attract is mostly the look of how someone takes care of himself or herself as well. Why? Because taking care of yourself means that you take a responsibility for yourself. What is also a responsibility? Responsibility = Freedom. Meaning, I have a choice to live how I want, how to take care of myself, without jeopardize anyone. Just like love = freedom. Also we have to have a balance between being relaxed, and being serious. And that shows how we are self-confidence, and also that we are mature persons (or people call it whatever you want) as well. Greetings from Europe.

For me, it's the Corporate Beard or nothing: it's the only beard style I can easily maintain, and virtually the only shape it grows into, while my beard grows in too thick and fast for being clean-shaven to be an option. I was also able to try out the goatee-and-sideburns look a couple of times, but not one really noticed, one way or the other. And since it was so much harder to keep up, I just went back to the Corporate Beard.

I don’t think sideburns are coming back and they probably shouldn’t either. The disconnected goatee is pretty popular right now though and looks pretty good for those that can’t grow a full beard. I’m currently rocking it and think it looks better than a connected goatee if kept clean and trimmed. I think a good rule of thumb is to keep your facial hair as long as you can without it looking messy. It usually looks best when it’s full but clean and tidy!

Interesting video. I was a little surprised to hear the mustache is becoming popular again. I was also surprised the goatee is not on the list as I still see a lot of men wear one. If you go with the mustache, my personal reccomendation is to not add stubble to it, as it will detract from the mustache; which makes a bold statement in itself. If you grow a goatee, my personal recommendation is to add some sideburns to it, to add balance. If you want a good beard trimmer, and you can find different brands with this feature, I reccomend a beard trimmer with a vacuum feature, as it will cut down on the mess you'll generally leave on the sink while using other trimmers.

I’m somewhere around the corporate beard. My facial hair has a very finite amount of length but it’s more than enough to cover the bottom part of my face in full. I keep it mostly because my jawline is not sharp at all and my chin is really close to my bottom lip, so it makes that part of my face look less round

My beard is roughly 6 1/2 inches long red, brown, and mostly white grey and I have it braided with silver extensions in the front with silver and gold beads usually 2-4 tiny braids. I have a lot of fun with it and aim for Viking or Pirate look. I do get many people men and women smile and I can tell they are looking at them. and there is others that will outright tell me that they like it, some have even walked across a short distance to tell me. Not that I am but I have had guys that I would assume would be gay even rave that they thought it looked cool. Some little old ladies told me to shave my beard off often, and when I braided it, and put beads in it they didn't tell me that anymore they just smiled and blushed. Could you do a opinion pole of all beard types and see where the Viking look sits? I like all videos on how people perceive one another, you do a really good job. Thanks for your videos 🙂

I like Courtney Ryan's advice on most things. I don't think her advice on facial hair is bad in general, but in my case, growing facial hair is a bad idea. Here's why: first of all, I just simply don't look good with facial hair. It doesn't grow in nicely. More importantly though, I am 44 years old. Premature gray hair runs in my family. I started going gray in high school. By my early 20s, I was salt and pepper. By 30, I was completely gray. I was always teased and made fun of by guys who always said to dye it. I never dyed it because women love it. I get more compliments on my hair than any other part of me. I have had women stop me on the street and ask if the color is natural and say it's beautiful. Part of what makes it work for me is that I have a young looking face. Even at age 44 my face looks young. Facial hair makes me look older. Plus my facial hair is gray. If I grow it out, I'll just look like an old, unkempt dude. Every girl I've ever dated said she liked me better clean shaven.

If you're 20 and fretting about not being able to grow a full beard, patchy, or thin (like I was) give it time, the older you get, the thicker facial gets (for most men). Taken me 10 years, and finally at 30, albeit thin, but I can confidently grow a full beard, and seems to be getting thicker as each year passes by... with my unfortunate caveat being, thicker the beard the thinner my hair gets, but personally, I'd rather be able to grow a full set of hair with a patchy beard than go balding with a full beard... unless you're of em lucky sob's with genetics who are blessed with both. Which is just fucking unfair. Work with what you've got, and save what hair you have left. As for sideburns coming back? Please don't. I personally thin they've never looked good. And when I see a dude rocking one, I can't help but think of some hairy unshaven gross 80's Ron Jeremey looking cat. There's a reason you don't see them... rarely ever.

Get a good safety razor. I like the Zomchi, it's only $20 and us nice and sturdy. You want something like that to sculpt the edges, regardless of length.

Courtney you should do something on facial care. My ex GF would always put lotion and stuff on my face and I fought against it like when you try to give a dog medicine but after we broke up I noticed my skin would look nasty and dry so I started getting into different moisturizers and stuff and my skin is better than most women now.

Maybe a Beard Oil or Beard Balm might be something to try as an alternative to lotion. Check out Dan C for some good options.

If your cheeks aren’t the best but your mustache and chin grow well, I highly suggest you search KZbin for Mariano Di Vao beard style. He did a very detailed video on the “Italian beard” style. I’ve done this look for a couple years now and still love it.

I’ve always been the type to not have facial hair at all. Although I would be more than capable of growing a beard, I like being clean shaven. I don’t like looking older than I actually am at 27 years old, plus every time I do shave and get my stubble cleared (since I never let it grow out too much into the part of a beard) I always feel refreshed every time.

You are actually hiding what you are supposed to really look like at 27 by shaving off what you are supposed to have as a man.🤷

@@streetfightervsxenoverse1832 I’m not hiding anything, I decide to take care of myself in that way. Besides, looks don’t mean everything and even when I’ve slacked off on shaving if I went a week without it (most times I shave every 3-4 days) I still get told I look younger than I actually am which if anything is a compliment because I’ve always had pretty much the same face since I was 2 years old.

@@lakerskid2013 Dude just let your beard grow and groom it yourself or at the barbershop occasionally, it's Actually more work to try to keep up a un-natural look trying to look like a teenager as a 27 year old man , it's one thing if you can't grow any facial hair , But seeing as you obviously can I don't see why you are running away from it , just grow it simple.

@@streetfightervsxenoverse1832 I’m not running away from anything. It’s not about me looking like a teenager, what the heck? I’m happy and confident with how I look without facial hair. It’s about no different than me being allergic to nuts, never really liked them or any foods with nuts anyway so that doesn’t bother me any. If I couldn’t grow facial hair, it’s the same concept, it wouldn’t have bothered me either way.

@@streetfightervsxenoverse1832 if I couldn't grow facial hair I'd be just fine for instance, the only reason I keep stubble is cause I'm very lazy to shave and hate the feeling of shaving due to getting irritated plus I don't like beards either,so stubble is the only option for me,some people just aren't into beards

Old Russian song - I have a beard / tell me Yes ..... and I have used it as a pick up line quiet often. This always worked best for me when in winter when I was growing the full Santa Beard. Come January - The Goatee is back - 5 oclock stubble will hit in the summer.

My ex would be absolutely beside herself when I did a full head buzz and got rid of my sideburns. This was in 2013. They never really went away honestly, maybe there was a Larry David association for a while but I keep sideburns (except now because I'm following the fade beard shit) and it consistently ends up being a thing. Keep 'em as long as where your earlobes connect to your head and you're gravy, don't do muttonchops or chinstraps.

I randomly started being able to grow a full beard about a year and a half ago after over three decades of life without ever being able to grow more than sideburns and a neck beard, and now I’m just rocking it to try it out since I never could before. I definitely put effort into keeping it, and I like to think I have a much more masculine look than I had back before I could grow this.

Thanks for this video. While I did initially hope to see sideburns make it into the list, I am actually glad they did not. Don't get me wrong, I do wear sideburns. But I do it because it's my style and it has been for as long as I could grow them. I would hate to be considered fashionable or following some stupid trend. I am who I am, and if people do not like it, that's their loss.

I saw a fellow man on the train with sideburns - very professional. Just a little besides the ears. This style requires the same maintenance as fade: only for natiral angular face with skinny to cut body type I recommend. Maybe harder to get straight but can be done at home.
