THE SHADOW OF OAKLANDS - Abandoned Victorian Children’s Home

The abandoned Oaklands children's home in Lowton harbors many secrets and oozes a sense of unease or dread, almost as if the house itself is watching us. With its sordid history of sexual and physical abuse scandals and people under the stairs style passages in the walls, this Victorian Era monstrosity is as architecturally stunning as it is historically important to the local populace.
The house becomes almost Labyrinthian in scale for the uninitiated the deeper you delve, becoming more and more foreboding the more that your nerves creep in, which begs the question why the f@ck did I go in alone lol...
The perfect explore for my kind of filmmaking and one of my favorite self-made horror Urbex flicks to date. Inspired by 70s and 80s Horror and the perfect locale for a Hammer Horror flick it was a pleasure to edit and would not work as effectively as it does without those stunning opening and ending ariel shots by Drone Wolf Photography to elicit that uneasy sense of scale something akin to The Shining.

You my friend just made my day. I think the drone from drone wolf really helped instil the vibe from the off almost like the shining. In fact if you look at the shining intro you’ll see I mirrored the Warner bros logo within my own for a extra subliminal creep factor lol ;) there’s actually loads of subtle instances of film references in all my films really but Il be honest this on I particularly like myself which is a rarity!

Never fail to deliver Jay ! Amazing footage and video of Oakland’s, The music too and scenes complement the whole journey through your explore there. I’m sceptical about the flyer world, but have had few experiences and definitely was not my imagination either cos someone else was with me and also heard same and saw. So I’m in tune with these things. But each to their own. Such a beautiful historic building, none like that anymore, from windows, lots nooks and crannies, artefacts, and land with sprawling acres of land. I don’t like the thought of everything nowadays being knocked down, such a shame. Just to build damn houses on and apartments !!! many. Very expensive to buy as it is. Will be now taking a peek at your other new videos. Cannot wait. One of my all time frightening films, because of the isolated factor was “The Shining”. looking so much forwards to many more of your videos. You are so talented, commentary, The whole works ! Takecare.

@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt You couldn't tell because Mr Roberts was a compulsive hoarder, you went in through the side door, nobody used the front, and there was a corridor through to where he sat between two walls of piled up newspapers. My mum went in as she was worried about him. Outside were two ancient green and yellow vans rotting away. Somewhere on the net there's a history of Greenlawns and Oakland's that I read recently but can't remember where. Our house is an interesting one too,Glenelg, further down on the left, nothing like that scale but designed and built by an architect.

i stayed here at the home from xmas 1962 till summer of 1966 (3.5 years) i had some really great times there, Mr Jackson was in Charge and his wife was known as Matron, they had a son called Gordon and a dog called Judy, i liked playing football in the grounds as well as cricket, the part of the building you point too at the beginning (the creepy spiral part on the top corner) was actually the store room where they kept shoes, sandals, shirts, trousers etc, and jeans which we really only got to wear during school summer holidays….i remember it all and i can see the various dormitories i slept in over the years there, eventually when i left i was head boy….BTW it was only ever a home for boys when i was there, but i did go back one time in my mid thirties during the 1980’s and was suprised to see that it was both boys and girls there, i went to Golborne Secondary Modern School for Boys during my stay there, strange as it sounds i am sad to hear it has been knocked down 😢

I was in there for a yr when i was 9 im now 48. What a horribble place i have so many bad memories of that place including getting abused being forced fed and regularly hit by staff. I now live in warrington but i have recently drove past it. 😪

Well you've beaten it I think especially at 48 most people would have give up. You;'ll be happy to know the place is fully demolished now too. Il be honest Ive never been in as place and had a vibe like I got there "I dont get vibes" but this... this was different honestly. Anyway thanks for weatching the film and commenting your history it means a lot m8.

A beautiful Victorian neo-Gothic building, which is currently being demolished. Not at all creepy for foreboding. The only bad things that occurred there are down to the staff, not the building; as was the case in Olive Mount Children's Home, where I had the misfortune to reside in the 1960s. Take away the pensive music and this is quite sad.

Considering about 90% of the people that stayed there agree and the people who watched it I’d say it is creepy and foreboding! And ha ing never entered the building in my life even more so! I’ve never claimed any such thing in the hundred and fifty odd videos I’ve done so it definitely is! Thanks for watching m8.

Thanks for yet another brilliant explore . Like many other people I’ve never seen or heard of this place and it’s just a shame you found it in this sorry state . What does it say about society when buildings just like this are lost forever . Once there gone that’s it ! They would never build like this again . If this was down south it would prob be fully restored by English heritage and lottery funded . Turned into a hotel . We should be ashamed ya know .

Those walls hold memories of past lives of lads who were in the care of Wigan Council .did you look after them right Wigan Council ? The bloody tiles and walls do not matter it's the memories that these bricks hid ,that's important here ! But important to have footage if it
