Fast fashion has made clothing affordable and accessible for many, but at what cost? Textile waste is killing our environment at an alarming rate and this video shares with you all the dangers fast fashion is exposing us and the environment to.
But, it is not all bad news! The rise of reselling and the circular economy is making sustainable fashion attainable to many. The impact reselling is having on the environment is real and we show you how you can calculate just how much your own reselling business has helped!
It is so important that we all get involved to stop textiles from ending up at landfills. This video only scratches the surface of this massive problem and we are asking everyone who is watching to help! Share this video to let others know how important this really is!
Dont forget to check out Steph's youtube channel here: www.youtube.co...
Here is what Massachusetts is doing to try and help this problem: www.mass.gov/g...
If you would like to get the resealable mailers Stephanie mentioned here some we found that are really cute: amzn.to/3OXS9mG

Loved this topic! This was one of the main reasons why I ever got into reselling. I was a thrifty junkie. Almost everything in my home is second hand and I refuse to buy brand new clothing anymore. Thank you so much for sharing this. It's really important, and even though the internet is ignorant and doesn't know what they're talking about complaining about resellers, we got to push through it until the fad of hating on us is over lol

I did read the McKinsey report stating that 20% of water from 2012 to 2025 will be fast fashion. Is that where you got this? Another interesting thing I found. Cotton farming is by far one of the most impactful on the global water crisis. The Higg Materials Sustainability Index (MSI) gives conventional cotton fiber production a huge water scarcity score of 47.6 points. I can't give up my cotton, so organic is best uses less.

KVD Shoes sources their vegan leather from a company that makes it from apples. They take the leftover apple waste from apple juice companies and it gets pressed into a leather like material. If you think about it, material is nothing but fibers, and fibers can be sourced from so many things organic. So seaweed makes a lot of sense and I bet the finished product doesn't resemble seaweed in any way. They just took the building block (fiber) and can do what they want with it. Similar to bamboo. ☺️

Anyone concerned about resellers grabbing all the best items from the poor should take a tour of a Goodwill warehouse or even just the stockrooms in back of any Goodwill or Salvation Army. They are overwhelmed with donations - there's plenty for everyone!

People have no idea how toxic the water is with the various chemicals that are used in the dyeing process. While in China I watched them dump barrel after barrel of chemical goop into the Yangtze River. Then for the garments to be shipped here (USA) they spray the shipping containers down with insecticide and fungicides to make the long trip out of the tropical places where the clothes are produced. I can smell the pesticides in stores like Target and Kohls which they then try to cover up with a heavy chemical fragrance. All binds to the fabrics then you wear it against your skin and you absorb it and inhale the fumes as it off gasses from the heat of your body- directly into your lungs and mucus membranes. Shein, HM Temu should be banned. If we had a government that gave a crap about humans and our earth over short term profits these companies would be put out of business. AND they are torture chambers for the workers. And you can tell what is crap fast fashion while picking in the thrift stores as it looks and feels like plastic coated paper. And sadly I’m seeing more and more fast fashion in the thrift stores. This is a big topic for me. Thanks for discussing this.

I LOVE this video! I'm definitely passionate about saving the planet and I like that you broke it down so we can all see our individual impact. I didn't do the math but on posh alone I sold 3147 items so that's big. I did not know of Stephanie but it sounds like we have very similar niches. 😊

I use the plastic bags from where my mom works. She brings them home every week. So I’m hoping that helps. I am trying so hard to resell. I’ve been reselling for 2 years and i have at least 1200 pieces in my closet, out of the 1200, 622 are for sale and the rest are sold. Anything I can do to help the environment I’ll do it. I’ve even changed my laundry detergent to a se stainable piece of cloth that desolves in the washer. And I always use the dryer sheets 2 times. Sometimes I never use dryer sheets. I craft and save items to sell. I also agree with dumpster diving. People help people that way.

The great plastic bag debate. I personally use clear plastic bags for my clothes. After listing them they are folded and stored in these bags, then mailed in them along with the polymailer/usps package. Yes, I would love to not have to use them but with selling clothes I like to be able to have them protected from the weather/rain/snow ☔Living in Western NY I've had my own purchases damaged because of the weather. Also being in different reselling groups I hear about customer complaints about their items not being protected and damaged from weather or box damage. I do re-use bubbles/bubble wrap/boxes/paper bags as box filler when I can. I have a bunch of friends who save their packing supplies for me so I feel I'm doing my part pretty good there 📦In my opinion, I think it's the Big Corporation stores that should try making some changes with this. I've ordered small unbreakable items from Amazon and have had them sent in a huge box with a long string of bubbles...this is crazy and wasteful. Yes, I'll re-use them but what about the person who just tosses it in the trash. 📦I feel as resellers we re-use alot of packaging supplies to save money and that makes a huge difference. Plus like you guys said, us selling preloved clothes saves a ton in the use of water/trees/energy. So you folks that give us a hard time about using plastic bags to protect your items....back off ☺How many trees/water/energy have you saved? 🌲Since I started reselling I've sold 2000+ clothes items & 100+ preloved books/magazines. I'm not sure of the math on that (not my strong suit lol) but I think I've helped some. Great show you two. Lot's of great info. Thank you for breaking it down for the rest of us.

I donate my clothes to my housekeeper who in turn gives them out to her family members, who are low income. I am curious what Stephanie meant when she said she uses pronouns of she /her. I have heard about this before , but I don't know what they're talking about. Remember ,I am from the older generation.
