I still don't understand how they decided to nominate Dunkirk instead of Blade Runner. Dunkirk's score was pretty much unoriginal uninspired (just like Zimmer's 90% work from the last decade) Blade Runner 2049 was probably the only original work he did from the last decade which sounds special and passionate.

Desplat is one of my favorite composers. John Williams is my favorite. It's amazing that Desplat ended up helping complete a musical tapestry that Williams created with Harry Potter.

Greenwood or Zimmer should have gotten this one, but Desplat's score is wonderful as well. If you haven't seen Isle of Dogs, see it! Desplat scored it as well, and the music was in my head for the following week!

Nolan T I think it’s subjective. I think Desplat deserved the win a hundred percent, the score in TSOW was very distinctive, memorable and serves the arc of the plot beautifully. For me, I even think that Zimmer in Dunkirk is not as memorable as him in BR2049.

Please always say zimmer should've when desplat wins, as much as the greatness of both speaks, u can't deny that desplat music has always had such super professional musical touches, if your a classical music fan u will get this very easily, zimmer on the other hand adds a kind of oddness to his music with simplicity which is in its own way magical. But there's no question in why and how desplat won both times. As I said the touch of artistic music is so thick in his works

Already calling 2019 goes to John Williams for Star Wars 9. He won it for the first film, now he wins it for the last film. As his long delayed sixth win to commemorate his role throughout the saga, Return of the King style, and probably even serve as a bookend to his career. Snoke's Missing Hairpiece absolutely not. For example, Rey‘s theme sounds so different to anything I ever heard in any Star Wars movie before. And its such a damn great score. You can feel her loneliness, strength, independence, sadness and optimism in her theme. Kylo Ren‘s theme is also great and unique. And now in TROS the new Skywalker theme literally unites the whole saga together in one theme. And it sounds so marvelously amazing. Or „A new home“ is a great theme too. Its a bit sad that Williams didn’t win the Oscar, but I guess Joker just performed overall way to well this year. Still a bit of a shame that Star Wars didn’t win it

Greenwood’s Phantom Thread score was an excellent piece of music also. The visual magic and multigenre brilliance in GDT’s The Shape of Water was a force that could not be stopped on Oscar night, especially since Desplat more than capably enhanced it. Here’s to enjoying both composers future works, including Greenwood’s dissonantly electronic stunner that will be released next week: ‘You were already here’

Anshul Kaushik Phillip Glass. Interstellar's score is very similar. I don't have a problem with it though, there is nothing new under the sun, music is always going to be similar to what came before.
